Dive 75: Upgrading Fairies

Short summary of the last chapter:

Spoiler :

Voice practiced mana manipulation, and got a bit better from what we understand. He also got a mother fucking dragon’s heart! He made deals with both Davros and EDITOR to allow his mother to come into the world of Solun, while not needing to be there at all times.

Also, let me know if anything is wrong with the chapter! Be sure to comment and rate!

She smiled happily at me. “You know, I’ve been reading up on this game. I’m happy I can finally join you. It seems like your really enjoy it here.”

Just her hug alone was causing my HP to drop rapidly. “MOM! You’re literally killing me!”

She jerked in response to my yell, then let go after a moment’s understanding. “Sorry, sorry. Hehe. Guess I don’t know my own strength.”

She laughed.

“Actually, mom, what is your strength? Think the word Status in you mind, then look for it.”

She closed her eyes tightly. She cried out in surprise when, I assumed, she saw her stat screen.

“What’s wrong mom? Are they that high? Haha.” I couldn’t actually see any info on her, even when looking through inspect. It was a bit disconcerting.

“Well… it’s not that they are high, I just didn’t expect the screen to actually pop up. I know I helped design the game, but this wasn’t my area of expertise after all.”

I nudged her a bit, curious to see her stats.

“So what are they? If you say ‘display All info: Voice0fReason’ I’ll be able to see.” She quickly did.

I’m really glad I’m not too tall. My jaw just about hit the floor when I saw the information.

Seriously!? Starting stats of 250!? Really!? What did I make?

The thought of creating an army of Chaos Lifeforms definitely crossed my mind. But I chose not to. My mom deserved to have something special in DIVE. If that is a unique race and class, then all the better.

“Mom? Why is your name Brenton’s Mom?” I was hoping that was a joke.

She was a bit flustered. “Well the program asked who I was, and I replied that I was your mom.”

I almost face-palmed. There was no way someone in this day and age was actually this inept.

“Ok. Here have this. It’s not important to me, but you seem like you’d want it.”

I handed her the name change. Honestly it hurt a bit giving it away. But my mother’s happiness was well worth it.

Then I started thinking of her stats again.

“Um… Mom. Your stats are a bit” Instead of explaining it to her, I showed her my stats.

“And I’ve been working on getting those high for a while now.”

“Ah. Then how did mine get so high?” She looked at me as if I had the answer. Not wanting to disappoint her, I tried my best to answer the question.

“I don’t really know. Maybe it’s because of your race.”

“Yeah! I was told I’d get to choose my race, but I wasn’t.”

I frowned. “Actually, mom, let me ask you something. You’ve said a couple of times that you got information. Isn’t that not allowed?”

She blushed a bit. “Oops, I wasn’t supposed to mention that. Well it’s already out of the bag. The part of the update that added that was taken away. Now there are only stipulations put on outside information so that this world doesn’t evolve too quickly.”

WHAT! I thought I was tricking the system!

It seemed as though EDITOR knew how to play this game of tricks a bit better than I had thought before.

Mom and I stayed together until she had to leave for work. The saddest part of our conversation was about her using her power. In this dungeon she had full power, but one of the effects on her was ‘Bound to Plane’.

If she left this plane of existence, the dungeon, she would soon lose power and die a permanent death. Of course I could just summon up a new body in two weeks, but it was sad that she couldn’t leave without that much of an effect. Even her mana would quickly drop to zero if she left.

At that point Quasi came over to talk to me.

In a hurried voice he spoke. “Master! You’ve summoned a queen! How did you manage such a feat? Your mastery over the fabric of reality must be great.”

Words of flattery poured from his mouth.

I tried to wave him off, but he caught my hand.

“Please Master, restore our people. I will put my all into serving you forever if you do. Even with my fragmented knowledge, I know several ways to increase your power.”

Hearing that I could get something good out of it, of course I agreed. There was only one problem. I had to have a fucking dragon heart to summon these Chaotic Lifeforms. Even if I could use something smaller, I would still have to find out what minimum level of power and size the heart had to have in order to make my army of chaotic lifeforms.

After making the agreement to help, Quasi vowed to think of a way that most suited me to allow me to gain power.

With that I left the dungeon. My castle was on the opposite side of the mountain. It was only a few hours travel when I used my wind mana to throw myself forward.

When I arrived back at the castle I went into my DI space. If I just had to make sure not to advance Solun too much, I could get whatever info I wanted.

I quickly looked up a bunch of information. Stats on the best players, places with good items, etc. There wasn’t a lot of information posted, but everyone thought getting information from outside of DIVE would be bad for their characters.

I did get a bit of information that the show based around DIVE had posted on their site. ShortDwarf, the leading player by level, was already level 487. That was 50 levels higher than LastingBeauty, the second place. It was also almost twice the amount of the third place. Third place being level 260.

The average level of players was around 100. So in technical terms I wasn’t far behind the largest portion of the group.

The average level for members that had played for an IRL month or more was about 225.

So I was a bit behind on that account. But I could always just power level to get a bunch of levels.

I had already studied my mana manipulation for a month. I could confidently mix any two mana types, and get whatever effect I wanted, as long as though two mana types could actually produce that effect.

The ancient elven magic research was immense. They had all kinds of knowledge about the inner workings of mana.

In the book was the theory, which they had been able to make use of, on how to combine multiple types of mana at once. More than just two at a time.

I had been completely off track on trying to use three mana types at once. The user had to know the inner workings of each mana type to properly fuse them. Even going so far as to learn how each mana type would work in every combination of the other fused mana types.

For instance. In order to fuse fire/water/wind, I would need to know how water mana reacted with fire mana, how water mana reacted with wind mana, how fire reacted with wind mana, how wind mana reacted with fire/water mana, how fire reacted with water/wind mana, and how water reacted with fire/wind mana.

It was a long list. It got even worse if I wanted to fuse four types. Basically I’d have to spend a length of time researching each new spell as I wanted them. It might pay off in the long run, but the initial cost of time was a bit high for me at the moment.

I also found out that enchanting for most people was a bit different than what I could do. I could just use a bit more than normal to enchant an item permanently. Others had to actually expend an amount they wanted, and got far less powerful versions of the enchantment. Not to mention they only had a set list of enchantments they could use.

So they had slightly more versatility in mana amount, but they couldn’t hope to combat my vast amount of enchants or the small amount of mana it cost to do bigger enchantments than they could handle. I guess that update really wasn’t that bad for me. I thought EDITOR just gave everyone else my ability. Turns out EDITOR made it harder for everyone else, but I kept my difficulty thanks to my skill.

After creating my mother’s new body I decided to upgrade my fairies as much as possible. Sol was already at the highest level allowed by my affinity. Tear could grow one more level, Moro could go all the way to four. Golem, my metal fairy could be upgraded once, and Eli could be upgraded twice. Sadly SparrowHawk and Drake could not be upgraded yet. It would have been nice to actually have all rank 2 fairies.

At least the fairy summoning book made things a bit easier on me. I knew the ritual I needed to do to actually increase their powers.

The ingredients were the only limiting factor. For everyone but Moro’s final form, the mage’s guild guys actually had the necessary items. Of course they were expensive, but since I ‘owned’ this new mage’s guild I just had them hand over the items for free. I just made a few more books of spells for them. Not powerful ones though. I didn’t want the more powerful spells getting into circulation.

I decided to start with Tear. Tear had already been upgraded once, when I had to battle with the giant jelly fish.

I laid out the required pattern. The mages seemed very interested in how I obtained a book that detailed all of the summoning procedures. I didn’t tell them though. I didn’t want word to get back to the dwarf I robbed. Even if I was disguised at the time.

After setting the image in the form of an orb of water with roiling waves, I had Tear go to the middle.

I began infusing my large quantities of mana into the diagram.

The world began to turn more and more blue as I did.

After pumping in 1500 mana I found myself floating in a world of water. In front of me stood(?) a starfish. The starfish was only about five times as tall as I was. Every one of the spiny needles on its body was clearly visible.

In a soft, smooth voice the starfish spoke directly into my mind.

“Junior. You are here to borrow the power of the Elder Goddess Undine, no?”

I nodded my head in assent.

“Good. Good. Then first, you must pass a test. It is my belief that all true followers of her holiness must have certain skills. You must possess the ability to be in water for a long amount of time. That way you may better appreciate Undine’s love. I will allow you to summon me once more when you can stay underwater, with no assistance of items, for at least five minutes.”

The world began to fade. The colors began to turn less blue. “WAIT!” I hurriedly called out in my mind. The color turning suddenly stopped.

The starfish spoke again. “Yes? Did you not understand the request? Let me say it again. I want you to be able to… to… Oh.”

As the starfish spoke I concentrated and opened up my gills.

The starfish ‘sat down’ by bending its legs towards me and lowering its body. The starfish’s left arm bent at what appeared to be the elbow, touching what would have been its chin if it had one.

“I see. The great goddess must have been very impressed with you in some way to allow you to breathe in her realm.”

I ‘modestly’ shook my head. “She gave me this boon so I might enjoy her world of bountiful beauty for longer periods of time. It is only because of my weak body that I have not spent all of my time exploring the depths of her most perfect creations.”

I figured that if this starfish guy was so strung up on her greatness, which it seemed he was, then I would do best by praising her greatness.

He ‘nodded’. With a burst of blue light I found myself back in the normal world. Tear was glowing. The blue glow was especially intense.

After a few moments of blindingly brilliant light, I turned to look at Tear. What floated in that little ball of water was neither the squid nor the jellyfish. As you might have guessed it was a starfish.

The abilities of a fairy are based on the element they are made of. Water fairies start with all stats but agility, vitality, wisdom, and intelligence at 1.

For being a water fairy Tear’s wisdom and intelligence stats equal the user.

For using the maximum amount of mana in the summoning ritual you have maximum intimacy with Tear.

Tear has benefited from the piety of the summoner. Tear has gained 19 luck.

Tear currently has three forms: Squid, Jellyfish, Starfish.

In starfish form, Tear will grant the user a bonus HP regen of x Hp a second. Where x = (player level/100). This HP regen stacks with hp regen bonuses from other sources. Currently .45 bonus HP regen.

If fairies die while in combat they return to the Ether Realm, and must be summoned. As a higher order of fairy Tear can use all previous forms it has used. All forms will be adjusted to the power of the highest order from.

Let me go over the one point in there that I found so great.

In starfish form, Tear will grant the user a bonus HP regen of x Hp a second. Where x = (player level/100). This hp regen stacks with hp regen bonuses from other sources. Currently .45 bonus HP regen.

Currently .45 bonus HP regen.

I checked my stats right away. The bonus was there! My hp regen just shot to 1.45! That was almost have again as good as it was before.

Then I got sad, thinking about how much I was excited about just .45 hp regen per second. Some people probably have dozens of hp a second regen.

Still the abilities Tear had were formidable. In squid form Tear could shoot out blots of ink, in jellyfish form the fairy could sting people. I never really used the effects, but I would start to take them into consideration. I blame them for being so lame sounding. I mean a jellyfish sting in the middle of battle? Who would that really matter to?

That was by far the easiest of the rank ups for my fairies that day. After salvaging the small amount of material that was left over from the summoning, I started to make another circle. This one for Golem.

The child sized metal golem was only too happy to be alone with me. Every time we were alone the thing would try to hug me, viciously. It would not stop until it succeeded or I sent it back.

I created the complex pattern of symbols the summoning book required. After using up a third of the total metal mana summoning materials the guild had, I made Golem step in the middle.

I again began to pump in mana. I only had to use 1000 this time. I watched as my mana decreased. It actually took from the metal mana first, then the pure mana.

I suddenly found myself before a smithy. It was equipped with what looked to be the most ‘cutting edge’ smithing tools.

A gruff, metallic, man stood before me. The tall excessively muscled man was forging a sword. His muscles bulged each time he made a movement. He could give some pro wrestles a run for their money. All around us was blank white space. Only the smithy existed.

The blacksmith turned to me and grunted, not even pausing in his work as he said, “Are you stupid or something? Get to work boy! I expect a perfect sword. No slacking this time!”

I was about to comment on the rudeness of his remark, when a small anvil appeared before me. A heavy hammer was in my hand. A sword laid across the anvil.

My inspect quickly told me this sword was a broken iron long sword.

I guess this is the test. A perfect sword? That might take a while.

Thankfully I had a bit of a cheat in making iron weapons. I placed the weapon in the furnace for a moment, then got to work. I used the hammer, but only to augment my own ability. My main force in this endeavor was using the fire mana, as well as metal mana in the sword in order to make it take perfect form.

The hammer just got out the really tough bits. I couldn’t waste too much mana since I had to do it perfectly.

Over the next hour I crafted. Normally a sword of the quality I made would take about a day or so to make, but with my mana manipulation I could cut that time down to a minimum amount.

When I was finished with the sword, the bulging smith looked it over.

The blacksmith smiled as he looked it over. It was far better than someone of my level should have been able to create. He decided to do a test swing with it.

Wait isn’t that too hard for a test swing?

I watched as the ‘test swing’ ended with the sword slamming heavily against my anvil. The sword shattered in an instant.

On the anvil appeared another long sword in bad shape.

“Are you stupid or something? Get to work boy! I expect a perfect sword. No slacking this time!”

He turned away and got back to his own work.

I stared for a moment before shaking myself. Ok. I guess I have to put a bit more effort into it. *Sigh* fine. I need Golem to be ranked up.

I did the process again. This time making sure there were no visible flaws. I spent an hour and a half of intense concentration on the task. The final result was indeed improved.

The blacksmith looked up again just as I finished the sword. He again examined it, and again did the practice swing.

This time he didn’t hit the anvil! Instead his practice swing ended with the sword flying out of his hand and disappearing into the distance.

“Are you stupid or something? Get to work boy! I expect a perfect sword. No slacking this time!”

This process repeated a dozen times. Each time the sword got better, but would be destroyed in some fashion by the blacksmith. Each broken sword made my anger rise another level. I held it back though. I had to complete this bullshit quest. If I failed now it would render all of the work I had already put into it void.

Then I made a sword that was beyond anything I thought would be possible with my current level. I spent several hours on the sword. Every detail was micromanaged to a tee. Nothing was left out. Every inch of the sword was made as perfect as possible. I even ‘remade’ the sword multiple times.

The blacksmith nodded when I was done. “This sword is exceptionally fine work.”

A smile crept onto my lips. Finally!

Then the sword disappeared. Is this what happens when you win?

“Are you stupid or something? Get to work boy! I expect a perfect sword. No slacking this time!”

“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT!?” I couldn’t hold back any longer. It was too much to ask of any sane human being. The smith just kept saying that I did bad, never how to fix it.

“JUST TELL ME WHAT TO DO!”

The blacksmith rolled his eyes at my yelling.

“11 inch hilt. 140 inch blade. Tip curved slightly to the left. Both edges sharp but not brittle. The back flexible enough to not shatter on impact. …”

He gave a long list of things he wanted for the sword. I wasn’t doing any of these. That’s why he kept breaking them! How was I supposed to know what he wanted?

I began forging his blade. Ancestor had actually been listening better than I was, so gave me instructions.

In only forty minutes I managed to complete the sword to the exact specifications of the smith.

Basic Custom Iron Long SwordMaterial QualityCommonWork QualityApprenticeDamage5-10Durability10/10This weapon was made by a novice craftsman. This weapon had large amounts of care poured This sword was made to exact specifications of the Rank 2 Metal Mana Fairy Lord.

He didn’t even glance at the sword when I was finished. He picked it up, and placed it onto a nearby table.

“Good. You understand now. There is no ‘perfect’ when weapons are involved. It is all up to the one that uses the tool to determine what ‘perfect’ is. It will be different for everyone.”

With that I was thrown back into Solun.

Golem was slightly hovering next to an eerily familiar sword. The one the metal guy ordered. Buttmunch.

The sword was sucked into Golem’s body. The iron body began to grow slightly. Golem’s features didn’t change but instead only grew to the save of a teenager. Which was about 1.5 times as big as before. Golem was only a head shorter than I was. Still very thin for a metal golem. Gave off an extreme ‘robot’ feeling.

Golem has increased abilities. Golem can now completely fuse to the summoner’s weapon, increasing the damage of metal based weapons by x% where x = strength.

In this fused mode Golem will be unable to assist the summoner with any other task. No time limit exists for the length of time this possession can last. When Golem releases the possession, Golem’s mana will be 0 and must regenerate all lost mana.

If fairies die while in combat they return to the Ether Realm, and must be summoned.

I recalled Golem as the metal fairy tried to get in a hug before being sent away.

The whole upgrading process for Golem was exhausting and made me irritable. I had to take a break for a while. I decided to go for a dip in one of the hot springs.

For the rest of the day I just relaxed. Doing too much at once is harmful to the soul. After I ate, slept, and just generally played around for a day, I got back to the summoning.

I was excited to find out that my crafting mastery had shot up all the way to 25. Skill gains are always nice. In fact, I decided to start crafting a bit more whenever I got the chance. If I could level up my crafting skill to 100, then all of the gear I could make would be at max.

My anger was gone, so I could better concentrate on whatever the task would be.

The bonus the metal fairy gave me was considerable. Adding a total of 164% damage wasn’t anything to sneeze at. The total attack buff Golem could give me was just under that, but required all of the mana anyway.

It was a bit more efficient to let the fairy possess the metal in my weapon.

Eli was next. The earth fairy had two back to back upgrades coming. Then Moro. Moro had three upgrades. Straight to max rank!

I set up the first upgrade circle for Eli, I couldn’t skip to the second one automatically sadly. It looked similar to a scaled down version of an asteroid. The mana collected around Eli’s body, and formed a large rock.

Eli’s task was similar yet very different than Golem’s.

Came into an empty plane of existence. Nothing was there, just an endless expanse of whiteness. A deep, gravely, voice rang out as if from no where.

“Vooice. IIII’mmm gllad you finnnally maade it.”

The voice really did seem pleased, for whatever reason.

The voice continued. “Vooice. Do you know what it takes to be a stone?”

What is this going on about?

“To help you understand this, I have created a test that will help you push those limits. If you succeed I will allow my power to infuse your fairy. If you fail, I will refuse to improve the power of your fairy, even should you try again in the future.”

I felt a heavy weight descend upon my body. At the same time I saw a small hill form in front of me.

“The boulder on your back weighs 100 pounds. Carry it over this hill.”

Isn’t this just a test for strength? What does this have to do with the earth mana fairy?

Still I had no choice but to obey. If I failed the test I would not get another chance.

So I trudged up the hill. The boulder was heavy, but my strength was such that it wasn’t impossible. I made it up in only a few minutes.

“Vooice. Nooo. Triiiiy agggain.”

The rocky voice demanded for me to do over what I had just done.

As I began to ascend, trying to be faster this time, I felt the weight increase. The hill grew larger at the same time.

Come on! Suffice to say I was a bit miffed at the whole situation. I had to keep going though.

I completed it again, this time much slower than the first.

Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

The response was much the same as I expected. The boulder grew heavier and the hill increased in size.

This pattern continued. It seemed as though upgrading my fairies didn’t require skill, just the ability to do the same task an infinite amount of times.

Though the sword situation could have been finished with just one sword. I eventually asked the voice, “What is it you want me to do exactly?”

The only answer was “Perrrsevere.” The r’s sounded as if rocks were tumbling in on each other.

So I did. I persevered. Every time the hill grew, the weight did likewise. I continued to climb up the slopes. Eventually the small hill gave way to a large hill, then a small mountain.

By the time the hill was a small mountain the weight I was carrying was staggering. Although this was great strength training, I did not enjoy it. Every step I took required focus and power, else I would fall and be crushed by the boulder in an instant.

Every step stole away my precious stamina. Every step was a struggle. Halfway up the small mountain I had to gasp for breath. Though the stone stayed the same size, its weight grew tremendously.

By the time I was ¾ of the way up, I could feel my legs burning under the resistance of each step I made. By the time I was 90% of the way to the top I had to stop for several breaths in between each step. At 95% I felt my body slowly giving out. My stamina regen was no longer able to do even the smallest amount towards helping me climb. It had, for an unknown reason, stopped regenerating altogether.

Hours passed since I had made it to 95% of the way. I had only made it another 1% up. The last four percent seemed forever beyond my reach. The pain in my body cried out at me for forcing myself to do this kind of thing.

My endurance and strength increased tremendously, but what use is that when my body can’t even handle taking another step.

I couldn’t even use any mana to help me! Every time I tried it simply fizzled out. I tried lifting the rock up slightly with earth mana manipulation, and increasing my distance travelled with wind mana, but neither thing would work.

My only option was to continue with no assistance. By this time every step was an act of pure will. It felt as if each step sapped away a part of my soul. Only my pure willpower kept me standing. Every step sucked away from my health. My hp rapidly dwindled.

I couldn’t even get encouragement from ancestor. If I did the test proctor might notice the extra consciousness and disqualify me.

One step. I felt the world shake and sway. Although it was only me that could not keep steady on the ground.

-10 hp

Two steps. My vision began to blur. My eyes, tinged red on the sides, could not keep the world in focus.

-30 hp

Three steps. My vision was completely red. The blurry red coated world was covered in black along the edges.

-40 hp

I knew I could stop, or else face certain death before reaching the peak. If I did stop I would never have this chance again. I couldn’t just discard my earth fairy. If I did I would lose a sizable weapon in the future.

Four steps. I felt myself begin to embrace the warmth of sleep. My body having spent everything it could.

The fifth step never came. I fell to the ground as I lost the last 20 hp I had. I had literally worked myself to death.

As I fell I watched the ground swirl and rush towards my head. My last thought Damnit. If I could have used mana I could have beaten this one.

I awoke back where I first entered the realm. My hp was full. The boulder and mountain were nowhere to be seen.

“Vooice. IIII’mmm gllad you finnnally diid it.”

I looked around to try to find the source of the voice. I did it? Does the voice mean I won?

“Congratulations. As promised, I will imbue Eliyahu with a portion of my power.”

In front of me was the summoning room. Eli had coalesced into a large ball of earth. Light brown specs began to circle and fuse to Eli’s body.

The ball eventually began to crack, revealing a smiling earthen construct. Much like Golem, Eli was just a head shorter than I was. It was like staring at a teenaged body builder made out of stone.

Although I more than half expected a result similar to Golem, given that they even look similar when they rank up, I wasn’t that surprised to see that Eli could add to my armor.

Although…

Eli could act as a pretty decent tank solo. If I layered buffs and healing on the earth fairy, my team would be pretty well rounded.

After only a brief respite, I began to alter the summoning circle upgrade Eli to the third level.

I found myself deep inside of a cave system. I knew it was a cave system by the shape of the earth mana signature surrounding me. Tunnels led in front of me and behind.

With no voice to guide me, I decided I was supposed to follow one. I quickly sensed the areas around me, and chose to go down the path behind me.

I followed the path for an unknown period of time. The tunnel continued to twist and turn without signs of stopping.

Eventually I entered a large area. It was very similar to roman colosseums. Beings made out of earth mana, thousands of them, sat in the seats above. Their cheering was nearly deafening.

In a box set apart from the rest, was a larger, more powerful stone being. In a gravely voice, since I guess all earth fairies have gravely voices, the larger stone figure spoke. It’s words had an after echo to them. A quarter of a second after the words were spoken they sounded like they were spoken again.

“Voice it’s time for you to determine how powerful your fairy will be. Each of the stone beings here have more power than the last, with the lowest no lower than your Eliyahu. For each one you beat you will increase the power of your fairy. Of course if you fail before beating the second one Eliyahu will obtain no extra power.”

With that, the earth being on the bottom row, to the right of the largest earth being jumped down and bowed before me.

“It willll be my honnor to beat you.”

Is this fuck looking down on my? He is only as powerful as Eli for the elder god’s sake.

The earth mana in the enemy, one that looked like a fit teenager of undeterminable gender, was densely packed.

As soon as the largest earth fairy gave the signal, the one fighting me slowly ran forwards. It was insanely easy to avoid.

My avoidance seemed to anger it. That was a plus.

The thing tried to attack me, but I would dodge or push myself with a tiny bit of wind mana. I never retaliated. I only dodged. In some rare cases I had to block. It wasn’t that bad though. The thing did very little damage.

Earth fairies’ power laid in their defense after all.

Which is exactly what I was stopping. As the battle raged on, I stripped away the earth being’s mana. Being a creature made out of pure mana, it was anti-climactic how easy it was to win.

In the space of half a minute I was victorious.

Without waiting for me to rest, the earth guy sent down the second being.

And so the battles went. I would dodge and weave, occasionally blocking, and just generally avoiding damage.

At the same time I would be sucking away the earth mana from the being I fought. Sucking away internal mana was quite rewarding. As I put the mana in my body I gained increased purity.

One earth teenager went down. Then ten. Then twenty. Then fifty. By the fifty first one I still hadn’t been hit at all. The fifty first earth creature was taller than I was. It was built with layered muscles, and all together looked like a body builder.

As I siphoned off the mana the earth-man began to slow. Its muscles began to degrade, and turn into the form of the teenaged being. I continued to absorb mana, and the thing disappeared. It took five minutes to destroy. That was quite a bit longer than the ones before. I could finish them off in a handful of seconds.

The battles immediately after that went a bit faster. Since I knew the trick already I accounted for it. I began absorbing larger amounts of earth mana at once. I could have done this earlier, but the more mana I take in at once the more concentration I needed.

I finished the fifty second in a minute. Then next fifty all took a minute as well. There were still 2900 earth-men sitting in the stands.

On the one hundredth enemy I realized something. Every fifty kills grants these people a new ability of some sort.

The one hundred and first enemy actually retrograded into the child form. That took me a solid ten minutes to deal with.

After that it only took two-three minutes for each enemy. Time quickly passed. Two and a half hours later I began my fight with the one hundred and fifty first enemy.

During the last fifty fights I had to actually conserve my wind mana. It was slowly dwindling while I was dodging with it.

The one hundred and fifty first enemy again added something new to the mix. When it got to the child state, it stopped attacking me. It began sucking in earth mana to heal itself!

I had to quickly nip that in the bud.

I decapitated the poor bastard, and absorbed the mana in its head in an instant. The moment I did its body turned to dust and another took its place.

The battles continued like this for a while. It really was testing my endurance.

I defeated enemy after enemy, but their numbers never seemed to decrease. When I needed a break I had to use the shoes to stay in the air. The current enemy I fought would take to throwing boulders produced from magic at that point.

The two hundred and first enemy regenerated mana once in the teenaged body. The two fifty first while still in the main body.

At three hundred and one they stopped gaining powers. Instead I fought two at once! Imagine how difficult it was fighting two regenerating monsters at once. Before I could just steal the mana faster than they could heal it, but now one would cover for the weaker one. The time I lost gave the weaker one a chance to heal itself completely.

I had to focus solely on one at a time to do any real damage. It wasn’t too hard to do that, until opponent 401. Or should I say battle 351. In reality I fought opponents 401, 402, and 403 in the 351st battle. Each battle took dozens of minutes now.

One enemy would stall me, while one guarded the wounded one and the wounded one healed.

I continued to push my limits. I stayed up in the air from then on. Instead of directly absorbing the mana in their bodies, I took control of the rocks they threw at me, and tossed them back. Occasionally I would crush one, then I’d swoop in and take the mana centered around its head.

As soon as the head was gone the creature died. That was the only tactic really left to me at that point. I couldn’t think of any others without any resources or time.

Every fifty battles now added another enemy to kill. It wasn’t too much extra strain. I would just have to crush one person for every five at the same time.

By round 551 there were ten people at once. I had to use my nature buff to keep myself awake. Each battle took about half an hour. It wasn’t difficult thought. It started to actually become methodical. I would basically follow a pre-designed path each battle. They took a while, but it always ended in my victory.

Fight 801 changed that. By fight 751 I was already fighting ten enemies at once. At fight 801 I still fought ten enemies, but on of them had a weapon. A sword. Not that swords did a lot of damage to me since I was so high up.

The problem was the sword was made of stone. The fighter that used the sword threw it, and I let it pass by and leave the arena. Instantly another sword was in the same fighter’s hands.

I had killed 3000 people by that time. I obviously focused on just that one. After a few minutes I killed him off. The rest were easy to deal with.

At battle 851 they all head weapons. Swords or spears mostly. Although one had a sword and shield. I had to kill that one first since it protected its allies with some sort of shielding spell.

At battle 901, when I had killed a total of 4000 enemies, they began to use bows and arrows made of stone.

I could no longer take only a half hour to kill them. The physical combatants would protect the archers, and the archers would attack me.

I had to kill off the physical damage dealers first, but their regeneration was insane. They would actually regenerate faster than I could absorb. In order to absorb the earth mana from one, I had to temporarily drop to the ground to fully concentrate on absorbing the mana.

I would sustain many hits whenever I did that. I then had to dodge and heal for a bit before going back down. My mana was taking a huge hit. I had to spend most of the time in the battles just regenerating my mana.

Each battle was taking a heavy toll on me. Not only physically or magically, but mentally. I had to strain myself to concentrate on each task. My mind began to grow fuzzy. Whenever I tried to do a quick meditation to increase my mana, the world seemed to distort slightly. At least my perception of it did.

At battle 912, I found myself drifting off into my own mind. It was like I was falling asleep, but I had my energy buff so I should have been fine.

By battle 915, I could not stop myself from going into that state of mind. When I awoke I noticed my body would have been drifting aimlessly.

At least the earth elementals didn’t attack when I was in that state. Some form of honor I guess. I piled on the energy buffs, but nothing helped.

By battle 917 I had to physically force myself out of that state to do an attack. The earth beings seemed to be able to perfectly judge whenever I was in that state, and when I’d get out. All of their attacks were concentrated on that exact moment.

The only blessing was that my mana seemed to regenerate quickly while in that state.

By battle 919 I was stuck in my own mind. I tried everything I could to wake myself, but failed. Eventually I tried sucking the mana up from that area, and noticed I could still sense the mana in the arena.

Congratulations! You have mutated your body. By pushing your body to the brink of destruction time and again, and repairing it with mana, your body has become dependent on mana. You have unlocked the trait: Mana Dependency.

Mana Dependency is both a blessing and a curse. You can no longer go without mana. If your mana reaches 0, you will be unable to complete even the most basic of bodily functions. In exchange, your body now craves mana with every fiber of its being. You body will constantly absorb mana as if it were constantly in a meditative state, that is it will absorb mana at twice the speed as before. Actual meditation now restores 4x mana.

Due to your new body type, your Group Skill: Magical Mastery, has been forcefully increased to Expert level. Magical Mastery has gained a new skill.

Magical Mastery

Current Level: Expert Level 75 Exp 00.00%

This skill allows you to use the benefits from: Mana Affinity, Deceptive Aura, Meditate, Meditative Casting, Spell Permanency, and Runic Formation.

You are slowly becoming the master of all things arcane. With diligent study and practice, you may be able to better master the arcane world.

The higher the level the better you will be able manipulate mana.

To level this skill you must level up Mana Affinity, Deceptive Aura, Meditate, Meditative Casting, Spell Permanency, or Runic Formation. The maximum rank this skill can be is determined by (intelligence/50).

Magical Mastery has gained a new skill. You have gained the skill Runic Formation. Runic Formation is a class specific skill. Requires Class: Mana Mage, or higher.

Runic Formation allows the user to create runes for enchanting. The runes decrease the amount of mana required for activating spells. Runic Formation can only be used by True Elves that have chosen the Force Mage class and have upgraded it to at least Mana Mage.

Higher ranks allow the user to create more complex formations based on their knowledge of the True Elven language.

(* Author Note* He would have gotten another skill if he didn’t meet one or more of the requirements. The game wouldn’t give him a completely useless skill)

The screens popped up while I was in the fuzzy world. For an instant, I saw my own body. It glowed with a starry black light. An instant later, I was back to seeing the world in the normal way.

My physical view of the world was the same, but my body viewed the world completely differently. I could physically feel the mana around me being sucked into my body. It was as if I was actually meditating.

The mana around me seemed to want to struggle, but couldn’t. The earth people began to attack me, seeing that I was no longer in the state.

I couldn’t help but smirk. These ‘enemies’ were nowhere near as difficult as they were before. As one boulder flew towards me, I stared at it.

I began pushing the earth mana in it, slowing it to a stop just inches from my face.

While dodging the other boulders I inscribed a word in the stone, obviously using earth mana.

I threw the boulder back down. The earth people easily dodged it. Dust and dirt began to disappear around the boulder. Some of the closer earthmen couldn’t react in time. They instantly were absorbed into the boulder.

The boulder was slowly increasing in size, and decreasing the total earthman population.

In only a few moments they were all gone. The weapons they threw at it disappeared upon touch. They tried to run to the edges of the arena, but the boulder would absorb any that got too close. It didn’t directly absorb the ground though. So I guessed it could only absorb residual mana floating around. Not actual environmental mana.

Each earthman it absorbed made it grow much bigger. Each earthman was absorbed on touch. Instantly.

I was astonished with the results. I could only write simple commands on the stone, I knew which ones were too complicated to write.

I only wrote ‘Absorb Earth Mana’, and the results were that great! I could normally only enchant things to absorb 100 points/second, but this stone could absorb thousands in an instant.

After that the battles were easy. I would just take one of the boulders and make that same enchantment. Of course the earthmen began to try to get out of the way of the boulder’s effects by staying as close to the walls as possible, but that only worked for so long.

The boulders disappeared after each match was over.

None of the next matches even posed a threat to me anymore. Not to mention my mana regen was twice as high now! I could keep up a constant barrage of mana based attacks, and not even feel tired.

All of the way until match 1000 was cake. After my 5000th kill I felt extremely satisfied. Thanks to the low intelligence of the earthmen I was able to make simple plans that made this whole exercise one of patience instead of power.

After my last kill the largest earthman stood up. The stands beside him were all empty. They had been slowly decreasing with each match. Even with the addition of more powerful enemies towards the end, the earthmen could do nothing to stop my advance.

The earthman didn’t say anything, it simply jumped down into the arena. Without waiting it leapt several feet into the air to grab me.

I pushed it back down with my earth mana manipulation. Or tried to. This particular earthman seemed almost immune to my attempts.

As soon as the hand touched me, I felt my control over earth mana drop to nothingness.

“You did well to make it all the way to me. Better than I expected to be honest.” The voice seemed approving.

“Unfortunately I cannot let you obtain my power. So I must defeat you here. If Eliyahu had my power he would be on par with Gnome’s four generals.”

The earth around me suddenly congealed into a large earth orb. The walls of the orb began to decrease in size. Constricting around me. Leaving me no room to even think.

Right away I began to push the earth mana way from myself. The mana seemed to give. Only for a moment though. The largest earthman wasn’t going to give in that easily it seemed.

As soon as I pushed back, the earthman increased how much power he put into it. So I increased again. I could have snuck out from the ground, but if I tried I would we squashed in a second if it failed.

I used up all of my mana regen to battle with him. It wasn’t enough. He never let it get any bigger. Only let me stop it for a few moments at most.

So I sat down and began to meditate. I could still meditate and cast mana, so that is what I was going to do. I slowly increased the amount of man I put into trying to push the bounds. From 1 to 2 to 3 per second etc.

Eventually it went all the way up to 40, the most I could do without eating. The earthman showed no signs of stopping. I shut off the stomach and used the full 50.

Still no signs of victory. So I increased it further. 55 per second. 60. 70.

Eventually I ran out of all of my mana. The earthman was still going strong. Just as I completely lost mana, and fell to the ground, I heard the earthman speak again.

“Don’t worry about losing. This entire realm is made from my power after all. You really had no chance at victory.”

The orb disappeared, and I found myself facing Eli again. Eli looked like a large man. Bulging muscles rippled off of the fairy.

The abilities of a fairy are based on the element they are made of. Earth fairies start with all stats but endurance, vitality, wisdom, and intelligence at 1.

For being an earth fairy Eliyahu’s wisdom and intelligence stats equal half of the users stats. Eliyahu’s Health and Health regen equal to its Mana and Mana regen respectively. Eliyahu’s vitality equals its intelligence. Eliyahu’s endurance equals its wisdom.

For using the maximum amount of mana in the summoning ritual you have maximum intimacy with Eliyahu.

Eliyahu has benefited from the piety of the summoner. Eliyahu has gained 19 luck.

Eliyahu has increased abilities. Eliyahu can now layer itself on the summoner’s armor, increasing the defense to physical attacks by x% where x = endurance.

In this fused mode Eliyahu will be unable to assist the summoner with any other task. No time limit exists for the length of time this possession can last. When Eliyahu releases the possession, Eliyahu’s mana will be 0 and must regenerate all lost mana.

Eliyahu has gained additional abilities. Eliyahu can now regenerate by using the earth mana in close proximity. As a Mana Earth Fairy Eli can even regenerate using the environmental mana. As long as Earth Mana exists Eli will continue to repair. This effect continues in armor form.

Eliyahu’s repair speed is based on the results of the upgrading ceremony. Eliyahu can regenerate at a speed of 10% per second. When the durability of the armor reaches 0, it will halve in density and begin regenerating. If the halved armor reaches 0 durability, then it will once more be halved. Once the ¼ armor reaches 0 Eliyahu will be sent to the Ether Realm.

If fairies die while in combat they return to the Ether Realm, and must be summoned again.

After reading over the description only one word passed through my mind. WORTH!!!

Without realizing it, my earth purity had actually increased a bit!
