Dive 96: Seeing The Future

Short summary of the last chapter:

Spoiler :

Voice gave a vast amount of jewelry to the town elder, as a merchant. The jewelry was enchanted to force out a simple message of ‘Obey Karma Lithe’ by using the wearer’s own mana. He then arrived back in town as Karma Lithe.

Just as Voice entered the town, Kyle came running. Kyle looked to be out of breath, and distraught. “Master! Master! It’s mother! She’s fallen sick!”

Voice furrowed his brows. Sick? That wasn’t part of the plan. He nodded his head once. “Take me to see her. I’ll see what’s wrong.”

Voice didn’t want his plans to go awry just because Kyle’s mother had to stay inside during the demon attack. He wanted Kyle’s absolute obedience, for that he knew he needed to do something drastic for him.

He hurried to the house Kyle lived in. Kyle followed closely behind him. A great amount of dust blew into the town from the west. Voice covered his mouth as he coughed heavily.

“What the hell?” Voice cursed as he got a notice.

You have been inflicted with an unknown disease. You will feel weaker, and eventually die unless it is cured.

Inspect has determined the disease to be: Blood Cough Disease.

Blood Cough DiseaseBlood Cough Disease causes blood to by continuously created at an accelerated rate. The extra blood ends up being stored in the lungs, causing bloody coughs. Eventually the recipient of the disease will suffocate on their own blood. The disease is contracted by breathing it in. Players effected by this disease will continue to die once per day until it is cured or they become level one.

Mana Mages, and the derived classes, can learn lasting spells by disassembling them. Current amount of disassembling: 0%.

Voice looked aghast for a moment. Nope. Not gonna work like that.

He closed his eyes for a brief moment. Inside of his body was a mound of darkness mana surrounding his bones and lungs. It had a complex pattern, and seemed to seep in on itself before producing more darkness that coiled around him again.

The gryphon plague was like that too. Does that mean something? I only use mana blocks to create my spells. Other people seem to make constructions with the mana. Even that Johnny kid had a different method of control. How many ways are there to cast spells exactly?

It was true. Voice had seen many ways people cast spells. Sometimes it was just a burst of that type of mana. Sometimes it was a burst of two types, like fire blasts. Sometimes it was things that looked like sculptures made of mana. Sometimes songs or feelings seemed to be the reason for the spells to work. Even enchanting with the ancient Elven language worked to produce magical results.

That Hermit Mirror book and the Elven language both use words to make spells. Voice needed to do something about the disease, but he felt like he was on to something important. He used his ability to speed up his mind, and cast the speed buff on himself.

In his hyper quick speed, he began to walk around and think.

Different methods of casting magic. They can all get the same effect though. My way is obviously more precise than Johnny’s, but he doesn’t have to put much thought into developing a new spell. He just sings about it.

Words can be as simple or complex as someone can imagine. Scrolls work with words, but I’ve never actually bought one. Why would I waste money on something like that? But the Contract uses whatever language the race I want to trap has.

Voice was thinking very hard about the situation. He knew he was on to something big, but couldn’t put his finger on what.

Hmm. Hmmmm. Magic. Casting magic. Enchantments. Feelings. Logic. Words. What do they all have in common? They all have an idea in mind. They all expect the magic to happen. They all use mana. I’ve used the same method Johnny uses. I’ve used enchantments, and logic. What about words? Is there some way to change the way I use magic?

He began to run mental simulations as to what might happen if he were to fuse the different forms of magic, or use one type to enhance another. In a single second of real time, he had run many possible scenarios. In a minute he had run hundreds

You have shown exemplary skill in forming ideas and playing them out in your mind. You have gained the skill: Simulation.

Simulation

Current Level: Novice Level 1

This skill can be leveled up by running simulations on a variety of ideas. This skill will automatically run in the background of your consciousness until the results are found.

Every level in this skill will increase the accuracy of the simulation with a given amount of information. For every rank in this skill, you will be able to simulate more things at one and to a higher degree.

Can currently be fused to: Group Skill: Instant Analysis.

Can currently be fused to: Group Skill: Devourer of Knowledge.

You have learned all of the required skills to upgrade the Group Skill: Instant Analysis. Would you like to exchange relevant skills for the Group Skill: Instant Analysis? You can choose to fuse them at a later time. At that time say exchange relevant skills.

The sudden screen interrupted his intense concentration. Voice was a bit angered by the interruption, as he felt he was on to some deep secret of magic. Once he read over the information, that anger evaporated like water left in a desert.

He chose not to upgrade Instant Analysis just yet, but chose to fuse Simulation into both of the group skills to get new skills.

Instant Analysis + Simulation = Prediction

Devourer of Knowledge + Simulation = Expound

Prediction

Current Level: Novice Level 1

Prediction is a unique skill. Only by fusing an Identify type skill that has reached 100, with the skill: Simulation, can it be acquired.

This skill has the ability to predict the future! … To a small degree. Based on information garnered from the Identify type skill, you will be able to predict events that will happen in the future.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Every level in this skill will increase the accuracy of the prediction with a given amount of information. For every rank in this skill, you will be able to further into the future.

Current Prediction Length: 1 Second.

He fused Prediction to Instant Analysis. He could hardly believe the result.

Instant Analysis

Current Level: Expert Level 100 Exp 00.00%

This upgraded skill allows you to use the benefits from: Identify, Identify Compatible Skills, Identify Skill, Sense Potency, Automatic Sense Potency, Sense Skill Potency, Mana Sight, Aura Sight, Sense Motive, Sensory Perception, Search, Track, Taste, Spot, Search, Listen, Body Language Analyst, Detection, Detect Price, Stat Inspection, Empathic Connection, Sense Enchantment, Distinct Perception, Language Inference, Locate, Dialect Detection, Empowered Perception, Rapid Inspection, and Prediction.

You can inspect anything. The higher the level of Inspect the more information you gain on the thing inspected. You must be able to see the thing to inspect it.

To level this skill you must do an action that would be encompassed in one of the skills that were consumed to make this skill.

This skill can be toggled to automatic. If you wish to toggle this skill to automatic say: ‘Toggle skill Analysis to Automatic.’ To toggle skill to manual say: ‘Toggle skill Analysis to Manual.’

This skill has a secondary effect: Slow Time! This can be toggled to automatic. If you wish to toggle this skill to automatic say: ‘Toggle skill Slow Time to Automatic.’ To toggle skill to manual say: ‘Toggle Slow Time to Manual.’ The dilation will be based on level and rank.

With the addition of Prediction, this skill will be able make complex analysis on things that might happen.

Current Prediction Length: 1 Minute.

A minute of predictions! He almost began to drool at the thought. That was equivalent of 15 minutes of thought processing if he were to use the Prediction to predict the end result of Simulation. Although it might be off by a lot, to predict the end result of a possibly faulty simulation was difficult at best.

Expound was almost identical to a skill his Grimoire already had. It could theorize information from what he had read or seen. For instance the cause of a war given that the kings of each army generally acted like this or that.

He used it to upgrade Group Skill: Devourer of Knowledge, if only to increase the number of skills it encompassed. Finally he used Simulation to upgrade his Instant Analysis. The power of the simulations was basically at max from that. He could run up to ten simulations at once. Each one had a terribly high accuracy as well.

After creating the two new skills, he fused Simulation into Instant Analysis. Because of the high level of Instant Analysis, Voice was able to run 10 simultaneous simulations.

The first thing he did after, was to begin nine independent simulations. Each one was a way to take down one of the gods.

When he began the simulation he shivered as he felt it take a full accounting of his abilities. Of course it couldn’t take a measure of the gods, but it used what he knew of each to create a feasible plan.

After that he began another experiment. He made an excuse to the boy, and went outside for a moment. He quickly dashed away from the town. When he got far enough to be sure that no one could see anything, he created a large stone, about the size of his entire body. He heated the core of the stone up until it became magma.

He used wind mana and earth mana to toss it in the air and spin it. He began a simulation to determine where it would land. At the same moment, he used Predict to determine both the outcome of the simulation and the outcome from the actual event.

The stone spun in the air, but when the mana supporting it stopped, it began to fall. When the stone got close enough to the ground, Voice made it explode.

Stone and lava exploded everywhere, causing several fires to erupt. Voice extinguished them with a thought. He looked at the results of the skills.

1) Simulation concluded the stone would fall straight down, and leave a small crater. *Did not happen.

2) Prediction on the event concluded Voice would use mana to destroy the boulder, and it would scatter fires. *Did happen.

3) Prediction of the simulation concluded that Simulation would conclude the stone would fall straight down, and leave a small crater. *It did conclude that.

So Predication is obviously better. The only problem is that I can only use it to determine things up to a minute later.

After a few more minutes of study he had learned a great deal about the skills. Prediction worked in real time. Even if Voice sped it up using the time dilatation ability of Instant Analysis, it would still show the full minute of real time.

Simulation would work for things longer than that, but would need more information to go on. It had to have exceptionally specific information if it was to be a contender with Prediction. Simulation worked with Voice’s time, not real time.

Pairing them together was outstanding though. For every second of real time, Simulation would have 15 seconds to figure things out. Prediction could piggy-back on this ability and use it to predict a 15 minute long Simulation. That meant an instant answer to a fifteen minute problem!

The Simulation would take the data gained by Prediction, and use to continue the simulation. Effectively condensing 15 minutes of time into one second. The only problem? After a few seconds the simulation was so far gone that it couldn’t hold together and the information was lost.

Even doing it for more than 1 second left the information in a terrible state. Without an immense amount of information, this type of cheat was impossible.

After another moment he seemed to remember something. Oh! Kyle brought me into his house to cure his mom… then I was thinking about the fabric of magic!

The skills had gotten him off track of his true goal, the pursuit of magic! He began using Simulation and Prediction to determine how he could possibly enhance his spell casting abilities.

While the simulations began working, he quickly decoded the mana signature in his body. It had been impossible for him to cure Nightmare-Wing when something similar was used, but he had grown a lot since then.

Plus he had a guinea pig to test his idea of the solution out on. The worse case scenario would be that she died. He knew he wouldn’t feel remorse, he’d just pack up and find somewhere else to practice his skills.

After studying the mana signature of the disease for a few minutes, he looked at the results of Simulation.

Blood sacrifice?

It wasn’t very helpful.

The result showed him sacrificing someone, and absorbing their blood to infuse it into his magic.

What is that even supposed to mean? Should I … Should I try it?
