Short summary of the last chapter:
Spoiler :
Wolf beat the next mini boss room, and eventually met up with EDI. Together the easily beat the necromancer girl. They didn’t make it to Kretchof’s room before the monsters started getting really aggressive. The monsters they fought managed to kill off another person in their group. All that was left was three people. They made it to the boss room, but got effected by a massive debuff field. They were fighting undead, and EDI was the first to realize it. Voice also cast four buffs on himself to help with combat. Voice was immune to the field thanks to a potion he made. Time until end of contest: 4 hours. If you like the story enough I have a paypal linked at the bottom.
Also, let me know if anything is wrong with the chapter! Be sure to comment and rate!
Four hours left. Kretchof was summoning massive amounts of undead to do battle with their group. They were downright impossible to kill it seemed. Although Kretchof borrowed the power of dark mana in the air, and thus summoned huge waves of undead, the group of three continued to kill them all.
I wanted him to summon the spiders and whatnot, but they would also be effected by the debuff field. The undead weren’t. Thus they put up a bit more of a fight than usual.
At first the battle was going like this, but every ten seconds there was a sudden drop in the power level of EDI’s group. They soon realized that pulling up the plants wouldn’t do much, so focused on killing off the undead.
Their biggest problem was that Kretchof summoned six undead a second. He was far in the back, so wasn’t in range of their attacks. While his hordes of undead continued to run towards them, like lambs to slaughter.
They couldn’t budge for the first minute and a half. The amount of undead that started in the room was too much, even though they killed three undead a second more than Kretchof could summon.
The enormous cavern had no where to hide. The only thing in it was the throne Kretchof sat upon. The group continued to slaughter their way through the undead.
In only a minute and a half they had killed enough to actually move towards Kretchof a bit. It seemed they were even conserving their energy. I knew for a fact that EDI at least could actually use some explosive moves to attack with.
I gave Kretchof the signal. The zombie portion of ‘corpses’ began to explode. There were way too many to actually do a double tap. (Idea that you have to shoot an undead in the head even after you kill them just to be sure.)
The zombies caused a heavy debuff themselves. Since I had stat and health debuffs down, this debuff only made the group drowsy. Much like what Kretchof told me he did to one of the members of the demon’s army that was supposed to be trying to kill me.
EDI and Wolf only faltered in response. The unnamed warrior one on the other hand, was diffidently effected. His responses started slowing at a tremendous rate.
All of the undead focused on him. They only attacked Wolf and EDI enough to stop them from getting to Kretchof. The other warrior was doing a commendable job at hanging on though.
His killing power only dropped by a third. He still managed to kill two zombies a second. That was pretty intense. The quick, precise swings, coupled with the deadly force this group used, was anything but ordinary.
They all seemed like they were experts at killing large groups. It was disconcerting to say the least. I just had to wait for the right moment, then I’d make my entrance.
The three continued to slowly make their way to Kretchof. After five minutes of heavy battling they finally made it about half way through.
The thing about the fight though, was that there was a time limit. Not of four hours, but of 16 minutes and 40 seconds. After that, unless they use healing magic or potions, even without the enemies hitting them they would have lost the 1% hp 100 times. Death.
I still had about 12 minutes left. If I could stop them from killing Kretchof until that time then I’d be able to make sure they would all die. They would make it to Kretchof before that though.
They had already lost about a third of their hp. I decided that was the best time to show up. I could wait more, but I was afraid they’d make a run for Kretchof.
I burst out from the ground, just twenty feet in front of them. I hovered just three feet off the ground. I had a pebble I had picked up earlier. I crushed it between my fingers. Eli and SparrowHawk sent the resulting dust near the undead group.
At the same time as I had made the pebble explode using the little bit of mana I had, I shouted
“By the might of Mar! HOLY UNDEAD BINDING!”
Sol helped me cast a bright white light in the room. Special effects always were entertaining.
I cast a scornful look at the trio.
“So, you all accepted my invitation. I can’t say I’m surprised. The only thing is…” I rubbed both of my eyes with one hand in ‘exasperation’. I let myself fall to the ground.
“I was already in this boss room. I’ve spent the better part of an entire day here. Then you three decide that you can just come in and mess up all of my hard work? That’s not very nice. That was my least binding stone too. Well I have them for at least another five minutes. Although the boss over there is invincible while the stone is active.”
I glanced at the massive amount of undead.
“To the walls!”
The undead did as ordered. All three of the group were astounded by my mastery of the undead. Unnamed 1 even had his mouth agape. Geez it wasn’t that great. I was pleased that they bought it though.
I pointed to the unnamed warrior. “You. You all came to kill me. How about one on one battle? Or are you all so cowardly that you won’t fight unless it’s three on one?”
EDI began to say something in anger, but Wolf roared,
“I would never dishonor a noble warrior! One on one battle it is!”
He cast a look at the unnamed person. The other person nodded and came forward. It seemed as though they really had fallen for it. I had to admit I was disappointed. For someone that gave me so much trouble to fall for such simple provocation.
The warrior was in obviously heavy armor, with a longsword in one hand, and a dagger in the other. Obviously he focused mostly on attacks.
“My name is Starchild. Let’s have a good duel.”
Wolf shouted, “BEGIN!”
Before he even said the first letter I completely took over inspect. The red lines on the group were few and far between, but they still existed. With all of the sub-skills fused into it, inspect was basically a super skill.
I could freaking read the wind mana that came off of his body to determine what direction he was going without looking at him. I could tell where he was going to move, and move accordingly. The lines showing me where to attack and defend basically were only there to make it impossible to beat me.
Starchild shot towards me. Both of his weapons were pointed in different directions. His sword in his right hand was aiming towards me left hip, and his dagger in his left hand aimed towards my head.
My staff easily blocked both attacks. All of his stats had dropped to only 70% of the original, while my battling stats had increased by 30%. It was a huge turnover.
Every one of his attacks was easily predicted by my inspect. He couldn’t even come close to landing a hit on me. His attack speed suddenly increased. Each attack was twice as fast a before he activated his ability.
So this was the kind of thing you had been hiding? Impressive!
I had SparrowHawk send a sharp gust of wind at him. I jumped backwards at the same time.
“You’re pretty good. Well let’s see you handle this!” I opened my staff, and began to use the two staff blades that had been hidden inside.
With each long dagger in my hand, I ran at Starchild. We attacked each other for a single second. In that second he thrust or sliced at me a dozen times. Only thanks to my buffs was I able to actually block them all.
My health was still shit, so getting hit once basically assured death. I had to focus on defending most. That was the top priority.
I managed to attack him twice, but both attacks landed on his armor. I couldn’t hurt him with all of this.
Sol yelled, “Master behind you!”
Eli made a thick stone wall appear from the ground in that instant. I had been too engrossed in the battle, and hadn’t even see what was going on behind me.
I cast a quick glance to my right and only see Wolf there. By himself. Without EDI standing near him like she was earlier.
“EDI you disappoint me. If you are going to attack me while I am fighting someone else, and have my back turned, at least do me the courtesy of landing the hit.”
The wall came down, as it did so did the pretense of this being an honorable battle. Wolf ran at me as well, “KILL!”
Three people were WAY too much for me to take on by myself. That was why I wanted to try to kill Starchild by himself. Oh well, can’t win everything.
I stabbed at Starchild, hoping to get a crit before Wolf got near me. If I did I’d at least be able to knock one of them out. Sadly that didn’t work out.
As soon as I extended my arm to attack, EDI tried attacking me from behind. I had no choice but to block her. Luckily the line showed me moving my sword down and to my side, which ended with EDI actually hitting it.
Wolf made it there in under a second, and the three way attacks began. Every time one of them would attack, I’d have to block it. Whenever I blocked one person, the other two got to my left and right side. After that they would both launch attacks.
When I would block both of them, the original person would do a heavier attack on me. They were constantly moving around me in circles. Blocking them was exceedingly hard. I didn’t even dream of attacking them myself.
I still had my fairies though. After a few seconds of only being able to block by the thinnest margin, it was time to strike back a bit.
To my fairies I called in my mind. Alpha formation!
I could only just manage to block the strikes, but this was only because they didn’t seem to really be using any of their more powerful abilities. I couldn’t figure out why though.
I had Drake absorb all of the fire mana in the air, and keep a thin layer over only me. I even had Tear add in a lot of water mana. It was the exact opposite of my usual fire explosion combo. This time I would be freezing everyone.
They obviously noticed something was happening. Their attacks doubled in ferociousness. Still they didn’t attack with anything but regular attacks, only utilizing their basic stats to assist.
Eli tripped up Starchild with a small chunk of rock that sprang up beneath his right foot. Ass soon as he tried to take a step, the rock took a steep turn, causing him to lose his balance.
I struck out like a snake. I attacked his exposed neck. Two swords intersected to form an x in front of the poor fool that fell. I tried attacking Wolf, but his sword seemed to anticipate this. Before I even finished aiming my sword at him, he attacked one of my swords and caused my hand to throb.
Just holding on to my weapons was getting hard. The more they attacked, the harder it was to actually block. With every blow I got weaker.
I finally faltered during one attack. Instead of taking the attack head on, I used what little earth mana I had left and made a flat earth spike push my foot up. Just as Wolf’s weapon swung down on me, I used the platform to jump over the group.
I twisted, and landed facing the trio. Starchild was obviously awed, but Wolf and EDI just ran right for me. I gave Kretchof the signal to focus all undead on Starchild. That way I could at least only have to fight two on one.
As soon as the undead started to keep that one warrior at bay, the battle became manageable. I continued to follow the lines indicating the best place to attack or defend.
When I went to block one of Wolf’s attacks, he would change the direction of it. Thankfully, inspect would show me that and even show me where to best block it.
I had to constantly keep both of them in my view though. That was the biggest problem at that time. They were each trying to get around me to flank.
The air started to shudder. All three of us looked at the cause. A large crater had formed where Starchild had been fighting. With Starchild’s body at the center.
Wolf cursed. “Damn. Suicide bomb. Guess it’s only us EDI.”
So he did that to himself? I guess he was about to get killed anyway. That works in my favor though.
I smiled at Wolf. “Well now friend. It looks as though your power has been somewhat diminished. Let’s see how you deal when we get swarmed by a massive horde of undead.”
The undead started to charge us. As soon as they did though, they stopped. As one they turned towards Kretchof.
Kretchof stood from his throne of bones. In a pompous manner he said, “Warriors. I admit you are powerful. To make it to this room is a testament to that. Why do you fight amongst yourselves though? Are you saying this room isn’t powerful enough to cause you to pay attention to it? In honor of your power I shall fix that.”
He raised his hands in the air. EDI shot at him like an arrow. Eli and SparrowHawk were on point though. They had been given the job of protecting Kretchof after disrupting the group.
As soon as EDI charged forward, Eli made several small juts of stone trip her, while SparrowHawk used wind to push her back as much as possible. Her foot hit one of the stones, and caused her to lose balance for an instant.
At that moment SparrowHawk sent a gust of wind push her even more. She fell to the floor without any resistance.
Four figures appeared before Kretchof. I watched as Wolf’s eyes widened. He shook his head slightly like he couldn’t believe it.
Kretchof motioned towards all three of us. “Children. KILL!” They instantly disappeared and reappeared at different targets.
With four mini bosses, as well as Kretchof’s undead, all attacking us, we had no choice but to forgo our battle to kill them first.
I chose to ignore Wolf, and started killing off large swaths of undead. A wild battle cry tore from my throat.
The spider boss, as well as the necromancer girl focused on Wolf. The girl said, loud enough for me and EDI to hear, “Master Wolf! Just as you said I will act like you are a typical enemy and try to kill you!” A wild gleam could be seen in her eyes. She thought that if she killed him then something good would happen.
The insect and rodent bosses focused on EDI. The spider, and those two mini bosses, all started spewing forth children. The children were all negatively effected by the poisons, but the four mini bosses were somehow immune. How? I gave Kretchof the other four out of five of the poison cure potions I made. I’m so evil.
Basically the undead attacking me weren’t even really a threat. If I just used my mana instead of having the buffs, I could easily slaughter them all. But I used this as a form of training. Without attacking any of them, I let them attack me.
I realized I needed to work on getting a better defense. If I didn’t I’d be screwed in the future. So I just took their attacks. I couldn’t see to block behind me, but I made sure to let Kretchof to make them noisy when they attacked from behind me.
If one were to look at the battle they would see two mini bosses focusing on one person each, why a massive wave of undead focused on one person. In reality I was making sure to watch Wolf.
Neither he nor EDI had used any techniques since the start of the battle. I wanted, no needed them to use some. I had to see them.
The two were slowly running out of hp and stats. If they didn’t finish this off in the next nine or so minutes they wouldn’t be able to do anything.
Wolf roared. A large white light prang into existence at the tips of his weapon. He stabbed forward, and three blades made out of pure light assaulted the spiders and undead in front of him.
Technique Thief success: 10%. Technique: Light Blade, has been partially understood.
That’s what it was for! I had gone over my skills while I was bored a few days ago. I realized one very distressing thing. I basically ignored an entire swath of skills! Ignoring one or two group skills would have been fine, but I ignored almost all of them!
That was unacceptable. Technique thief was a skill that allowed me to absorb abilities after viewing them.
Task master had been slowly growing this entire time, thanks to my tactic of counting multiple numbers quickly. So I wasn’t worried about that one. Tactical Survival, Tactical Combat Training, Auto Nursing, even Skill Mastery to a degree. These were all of the group skills I had simply ignored out of convenience.
To combat this, I had been using the very little down time to actually try to improve them. I hadn’t gotten far though. Like I said, I had very little down time with all of the assignments I set for myself. I was practically worked ragged.
The battle progressed slowly. Wolf and EDI were obviously trying to not use any abilities. That was a problem. After that one time, Wolf decided to just not use anymore.
The clock was ticking for the group of two though. Every ten seconds their stats would drop again. In only another five minutes they would have 25% of their original stats, the lowest they could have. The longer they fought for, the easier it became to deal with them.
Things never work out as planned though. Though Wolf had been struggling, he used one more of the light blades, and turned the tide of battle. I learned an additional 10% of the light blade, but that wasn’t enough to do anything with.
With that one light blade, Wolf was able to clear a path to the necromancer girl. Without the slightest bit of hesitation, he threw himself at her, and decapitated her with one blow.
His eyes turned towards the spider queen. He had been able to deal with her subordinates, but could he alone prove a match for her?
The answer was a resounding yes. He jumped up with superhuman (superlycan?) strength. He easily landed on her abdomen, not that it was a small target. It was at least ten times as big as I was.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Since she was next to the necromancer girl, she was right next to Wolf after he killed the girl. The spiders behind him began to climb on their mother to kill him. He stabbed down three times in quick succession.
Her hp was dropping at an alarming rate. I knew he would go to help EDI after he was done, so I had to hurry my plans along a bit. Instead of training my ability to defend, I used Eli’s help to drop below the ground, and run to where EDI was.
My extremely enhanced speed made me even faster than Wolf. Of course running speed and attack speed were different.
The general area of the cave was starting to form frost in the air. With the fire mana disappearing, and Tear using the nearby well we had filled with water, the air quickly began to take on an arctic feel.
The cold didn’t seem to effect Wolf at all, but EDI was another story. She wore light armor, the one I got for her, and relied heavily on her agility.
With that being taken from her by the plants, and the frost, she wasn’t able to fight at her best. Not that it was her fault at all.
“BOIL!” I commanded my fairies.
I had Tear concentrate of filling her area with water. Tear used all of the stored water in one blast. The water quickly formed a giant orb with a six foot diameter, centered on EDI. Several rodents and insects were caught up in it, but I paid them no mind.
Drake poured all of the collected fire mana into that water. At first EDI didn’t seem to worry about the water, seeing as it had just protected her from being attacked, but then she started to feel the heat.
The water instantly began to boil. Tear was now only responsible for making sure the orb of water stayed centered on EDI.
When she tried to swim out of it, it would just slowly follow her. Don’t get me wrong though, it took everything Tear had to do that, so the freezing effect took a noticeable hit.
Steam rose out of the ball, but was quickly dragged back in. I was responsible for that part. Although I didn’t have mush pure or water mana, I did have a bit.
EDI let out a shriek when she felt the boiling water follow her moves. She didn’t seem to need to breathe air. Damnit! How many people have that fucking ability!
What I didn’t know was that it was actually a fairly common ability after a certain level. Water based monsters generally gave a lot better loot, but were harder to kill. Elite players, ie Wolf and EDI, would often hunt them. Thus they naturally would gain some ability to breathe longer underwater.
The boiling was doing it’s job though. EDI was losing health at an increased rate. Including the poison field, she was not losing about 31 hp in ten seconds, not just 20.
Wolf was obliterating the small spiders, so I had to act quickly. The queen insect sent her children to drag EDI towards the ground, making it even harder to escape. When they entered, they would quickly die. They didn’t have the massive amount of resistance to this whole thing that EDI had.
Thankfully when these particular insects died, they would instantly undergo a form of rigamortis. Their body and joints locking into position. They would become slightly more brittle, but for EDI it would be even harder to move.
The insects started to cling to every part of her body. The rodents, surrounding the ball and keeping up with it. In case she did manage to escape they would quickly deal with her.
By crawling over her, and layering themselves, the insects covered her entire body. Her hp was dropping too fast for her to handle.
A sudden flash of darkness mana almost blinded me. The bugs and water were blown away in one quick explosion. Entrails and steaming water covered the area around EDI. Even the rodents that had been too close were covered in the filthy water.
I retracted my fairies. They had done enough for now. Both fairies were practically worn out. They would only hinder me in the immediate future if they had such low mana.
I ran back to my position that I was in earlier, and had Eli shut the tunnel. Now I could only use the mana of SparrowHawk, Sol, and Moro. Eli had just enough mana to do one final attack, so I had to save it.
I began to slowly make my way to the center of the room. In just another minute I made it there. I had to kill through the zombies and skeletons to do so. Kretchof had stopped spawning them, so their numbers were growing thin quickly.
I couldn’t believe what I saw. EDI was somehow standing over the corpse of the rodent queen, while Wolf held the head of the insect queen. What just happened?
They both stared angrily at me, while I hacked away at the undead. They approached Kretchof to finish him off before attacking me.
Kretchof was worried, and so began to spout secrets. “Milord! Milady! Please! You seek to kill that one? The dungeon will reset after you kill me! You will be thrown to a random safe room! Please who knows if you will end up with him!”
He fell over and cringed, waiting for the final blow to come. He threw his hands up to block his face and body, as if that would stop the attack. He knew that as a mage he was in no way capable of stopping these two.
I held back my smirk as he said all this. Of course he’d be willing to give his unlife for me. I had him act cowardly to draw them into attacking me instead of him. He was my final trump card after all.
They seemed to do some form of voiceless communication, before coming to a conclusion. Wolf sneered at Kretchof. “If you do anything EDI here will kill you without hesitation.”
He bounded through the countless undead bodies that littered the floor. The corpses of the spiders, rodents, and insects didn’t hinder his path either.
He waited a moment, then finished killing the remaining undead. With the area around us clear of enemies, he faced me.
“You, Voice. You said you wanted to battle one on one? Let’s see if you can handle me. I know you’ve been stalling this entire time. You don’t seem to have been effected by this weird field of poisons at all. Clearly you found something that neutralized it.”
He looked at me with a look of scornful admiration.
“Let’s see if that alone is enough to help you. EDI here told me you are a mage that likes to fight in close quarters. I wonder if you can take many hits from me. Should we test it out?”
He shot forward in an instant. His weapon raised, he struck down with a force that could shatter stone. I barely had the time to raise both of my swords in an X formation to bock him.
The tip of his spear like trident threatened to break both of my blade, so I jumped back to disengage. Wolf smirked as he charged forward again.
Sudden fire mana permeated the edge of his weapon. He produced an absurd amount of wind mana behind him as he dashed forward. I didn’t even have time to raise my swords.
He blew through the countless bodies that littered the floor. They seemed to part before he stepped foot near them. As if some mysterious force lent itself to his travels.
Technique Thief success: 5%. Technique: Double Dash, has been partially understood.
I had time to think though. I had Eli send a small wisp of mana into the ground. A completely flat piece of stone rose up. Wolf didn’t notice it as he was madly dashing towards me.
The instant his foot hit that stone, he faltered. The stone had been imbued with as much of Eli’s mana as would barely leave the fairy alive. The fact that it was flat only strengthened it.
Wolf clumsily whirled his arms, but could not get his balance. As he fell forward, the speed of his ability caused him to fly in the air for several feet. I easily side-stepped his ragdolling body.
“Come now pet, surely you can at least walk correctly? Hmph. I thought that you were going to test how long I’d be able to last? It seems to me that you won’t even manage to get near me.”
I acted arrogant as Wolf flew into a wall, and righted himself. Even so far away I could see the anger boiling inside his eyes.
He flew at me again. This time, he made sure to watch his footing. The bodies spread apart before him with an even wider range than before. It didn’t matter though. I only had a bit of earth mana left, but I used it all as soon as Wolf got close enough.
Instead of producing another earth block, I made the earth mana in a small area rise up in an instant. With my inspect ability working at full charge, I was able to easily approximate the general are that Wolf would be by the time I had finished using the mana.
A small platform of about three feet in diameter shot up ten feet into the air. Of course that was only after Wolf had laid his first foot a little bit before the center.
Without even being able to put his other foot down for his next step, his extreme speed coupled with the sudden elevation, tossed him high into the air. Bodies of undead were thrown carelessly from the platform as it sailed upwards.
“Tsk, tsk tsk. Wolf you really should learn to be better at targeting. I’m way over here.” I jeered at him as he again hit a wall far away. I made sure my voice reached him without expending any noticeable amount of mana at all.
“How about this?” I gave a condescending look. “I won’t even use any more of my earth spells to stop you. Would that make you feel better?”
Even as he got up he had already began to charge at me again. His eyes became red with veins, and his veins could easily be seen throughout his body.
His muscles expanded in anger. With a mighty roar he tore through the space between us. It would only take him a second to reach me. I jumped into the air with what little air mana I had, and merely stood there with my boots absorbing a small amount of my mana regen.
Only ten mana per second would allow me to stay in the air like this forever. With my mana regen of 25 mana/second, even with up to ten taken off for the stomach, I would still get five per second back.
He was stupefied as he charged right past where I had just been. He was obviously not the type to get angry easily, but for some reason he seemed pissed the fuck off when I dodged him.
“So tell me, Wolf. Why is it that you seem so angry that I dodged your attacks a few times. I can’t image you being someone so irrational.”
He stopped his advance, and slowly ground to a halt. He stared up at me with a look of venomous anger. “You want to know why I’m angry? How could a little puissant like you block my attacks so many times!? Sure a dungeon riddled with traps is going to cause problems, but you! EDI swore you were beneath me! She told me that you had been partners in the past! Now I see you have been working together the entire time!
“There is no other way you could so easily counter my skills! She. is. a. TRAITOR!”
So he wasn’t even mad at me. Each time I managed to not die by his attack he seemed more certain that EDI had warned me beforehand. I’d also be suspicious if one of his fellow comrades suddenly gave me a bunch of info on him.
His anger at having been mislead by EDI was astounding. I mean she wasn’t actually part of my group, but the fact that she thought he was would serve a big purpose for me.
“Fine you caught me. EDI is my spy, but that doesn’t change the fact that I am going to win!” I let out a bark of laughter. I could see EDI wanted to rebuke that statement, but she was currently in the middle of a battlefield of ugly rat swarms.
I threw myself at him, whiled wielding both of my blades. An evil smile appeared on his face as he suddenly condensed a massive amount of fire mana around his bladed weapon. It shot forth at the same time as I bore down on him.
I surrounded myself in wind mana with SparrowHawk’s help, and shot forward even faster. Dust and wind swirled around my, obscuring my body.
Metal clanged on metal as the fire-encased weapon met my twin swords. The fiery death construct tossed both weapons aside as it slashed towards me. Tearing me in two.
…
Or at least it would have. I made SparrowHawk use what little remaining wind mana left to throw me to the side while at the same time making the weapons fly straight.
The entire purpose of the dust cloud was to make it so Wolf couldn’t see me, and wouldn’t think I had moved away from the area. Wolf stood there for a second, wondering where I was, before snapping to.
He gaze fell upon me in a fraction of a second. Not minding his flying weapon, he ran towards me while pulling out a typical longsword. He was planning to attack me even as I floated in the air.
“DIIIIIIIE!” A cry tore from his lips as he approached.
He was fifty feet away. Twenty five. I could see his eyes staring daggers into me.
Fifteen. I could practically feel his rage wash against my skin.
Ten. Now was the time.
Kretchof!
As soon as the command came out, a thousand explosions simultaneously rocked the cave.
This was my final plan to deal with both of the remaining contestants. I might take a bit of damage myself, but the majority was going to be concentrated towards the ground.
Thick wafts of miasma rolled out of the zombies ‘dead’ bodies. The bodies of the skeletons shattered, and the shrapnel flew in all directions.
The miasma was a sleeping poison, which layered quite well with the rest of my poisons. It was a rank three poison. My poison immunity would keep that at bay.
The thing I had to worry about was the shattered bones. The jagged pieces of bone could shred through my armor like a hot knife through butter.
The bones blew in all directions, but the miasma seemed attracted to the scent of life. It began surrounding whoever was closest. Of course Wolf-boy and I both got hit with a large amount.
The miasma filled the entire room. As soon as the explosion happened, Wolf was once again thrown to the side. The shredded bones flew across the surface of the floor, and many pieces found their ways into his body.
With his stats decreased by almost 70% he was susceptible. The damage he took would have been evident even without my inspect.
As soon as the bone shards began hitting him, he was covered in bleeding cuts. Most were shallow, but a few pieces were lucky enough to do real damage. With his hp down to only about 30% of maximum, they took out a sizable chunk.
While all of that really was quite powerful, there was only one major flaw. It could only be used once. That was an ability that only the dungeon boss of and undead summoning dungeon could use.
When I talked to Kretchof all about the dungeon, that was one of the things I was naturally told. He could only use that ability one time in a battle. Once everyone in here left, then he would be able to use it again.
Wolf stood up groggily. He roared, blood pouring from several areas on his body. He stared at me with fury unbridled. Even though he just took the full force of a final boss attack, he still had 10% of his total hp left. And that was when he wasn’t even cautious of it!
I spared a glance at EDI. She was far worse off than Wolf. Her body swayed slowly as she tried her best to remain upright. The rodents of various types around her were all dead. Bones or holes protruded from almost all of them.
Her hp was in a critical state. She would need at least a few seconds to get herself together. Sadly the 1% hp drain didn’t stop at 25% like the other poisons. It would very soon claim her life.
I didn’t have to pay her any mind, but I had the feeling that if I ignored her I would suffer for it. So I positioned myself to be able to see both people.
My smile never faltered. “You were too focused on me Wolf. If you had paid any attention to the boss over there, and I mean ANY attention, you would have seen his three second wind up for that skill.”
I shook my head as if my student just asked why water is wet. The truth was there wasn’t any time delay. It could only be used once. But by giving the info of the time delay, I would be helping the future of the dungeon.
If people came here in the future and somehow made it all the way to the boss room, they would be experts. If they did any research, I was hoping they would find out that bit of info that Wolf leaked.
Of course I was going to leak a shit ton of false info as soon as I got back into the game world as a whole. That way if anyone did actually make it to the dungeon, they wouldn’t be able to tell what info was real or not. That kind of indecision was a thousand times worse than no info at all.
With a thought I had Kretchof stealthily make his undead obtain my two swords. I allowed myself to fall to the ground. Wolf was weak enough now that I felt confident in dealing with him. After the span of time it would take to breathe once, I landed on the ground.
My two swords flew at me, thrown by two undead. I still had one trump card I could use even if the battle got bad. I could have Kretchof use his six darkness fairy minions to fight, but from what I was told they were good for little more than weakening a single attack.
That wasn’t going to cut it. If I had to use them then Kretchof let me know that the creation of the spider silk would be stalled by a lot. As it was it took a large amount of time to improve their skills anyway. Starting from the beginning again would take a long time.
The reason the silks were even usable was the outstanding material they had been made with. A grenade in the hands of a child is still deadly. A river can still water crops with an incompetent farmer.
Anyway. When I caught both of my weapons, I sneered. “Looks like your beloved weapon isn’t here. Find it. I’ll wait.”
I honestly would too. I was still watching EDI, but Wolf went to retrieve his weapons. Kretchof began sending out another group of undead to deal with her. The fact that she hadn’t died yet was bothering me.
Wolf looked at the group, then a malicious smile appeared. I guess he really enjoyed it when people that betrayed him got what was coming to them. I bet he’ll freak out when he learns I was lying. I wanted to laugh, but held it in.
After he picked his weapon up, he looked at me. Even with his stats in such a sad shape, he was still a worthy opponent.
Sorry for the cliff hanger guys. And for the long delay. I had two exams and a major project this past week. I will do my best to get another chapter out tomorrow to finish this arc up.
