Dive 30: Torture and Summoing

Short summary of the last chapter:

Spoiler :

Voice finally made it to the city. He made a very convoluted plan to gain more fame and start getting player support. He found a couple of guys that wanted to extort Susan. He beat the crap out of one, framed him for worse than he did, and took the other to Susan’s version of a basement.

Also, let me know if anything is wrong with the chapter! Be sure to comment, like (if you actually like it), and rate if you have the time!

Voice tied the man to a chair, and waited for the man to wake up. Voice went upstairs. He asked Susan for a way to make it so no one could see her lab.

“Well, it’s actually a mini-dungeon.” Voice had no idea what that meant. Susan noticed his look of confusion. “Not even the gods can see what happens in a dungeon, or mini-dungeon. That’s why the gods can only reward you if you finish some sort of quest in the dungeon. Even if you killed Davros in a dungeon, Mar would have no way of knowing.”

Voice asked her for the antidote to the poison she used. Voice thanked her for the information. He had planned to just scare the guy, but now he could have as much fun as he wanted. This guy picked the wrong NPC to fuck with.

When the poison maker finally woke, Voice had gained a bit of info on the man while inspecting him for so long. Apparently, Inspect gave more information if you actually looked over the object. The man had an outstanding level of 53. Voice wouldn’t be able to resurrect him with the ring even if it was past midnight. “Good morning Maximus. How are we feeling today?” Voice was playing with the knife.

When Maximus didn’t answer Voice cut off one of Maximus’ fingers. He smiled as the man screamed in pain and anger. Voice let him scream for a few seconds, before kicking him in the fork of his legs. The screaming stopped, only to be replaced by a loud whimpering sound.

The man looked at Voice with hate-filled eyes. Voice tried asking the man again. “So, tell me young Maximus, why would you personally come here to try to steal from my disciple?”

Maximus gave him an angry glare. Voice sighed in fake exasperation. “Look, I’m trying to be reasonable with you.” After saying that he cut off another finger, sealing both wounds with a fire spell. “I won’t be able to keep my patience for long, you know?” The last sentence went unheard as Maximus screamed.

“Come now. It’s a simple question.” This time he didn’t even wait for Maximus to answer. He chopped off each finger in a ten-second interval. He always made sure to burn the wound close after he was done. He tried to go faster, but his fire magic wouldn’t work.

After cutting off all of Maximus’ fingers from one hand, Voice searched through his notifications. Maximus needed a break from the pain or he might grow too used to it. While breaking someone’s spirit with constant pain was very plausible, they would often lie just to get the pain to stop.

Voice scrolled through a few notifications, until he saw the one that said attention.

*Attention*

An update has occurred.

All spells will have a Cooldown timer. This timer is heavily dependent on your affinity with that type of spell. As your affinity increases the Cooldown timer decreases. Weaker spells have shorted Cooldowns.

Many abilities now have a Cooldown Timer. The higher evolution the skill is the longer the timer will be.

Any item of divine origin, that includes items gifted by churches, becomes soul bound. There will be a 0% chance to drop them. Items of divine origin may not be traded or sold.

Classes have been altered for more realism.

New Races have been discovered!

Fucking figures. I thought that was why I couldn’t use my spells, but damn. I didn’t think that mage guy was telling me about an update for the SAME DAY!

The large number of updates had started annoying Voice. They all seemed geared towards making him less op. First they took his potions, then they nerfed his skills, THEN they made him leave for an entire hour a day at least (even though he already did that). NOW THEY TAKE HIS SPELLS!?

Dreading what he would see, Voice looked at his stats sheet. His health was set to 100. His health regen had been brought back down to one. End, Str, and Vit, had a cap of 250.

The only thing stopping Voice from going berserk was the man tied in the chair. Voice smiled as he thought about how he was going to make this man suffer. This man might not have been the cause of the update, but Voice was going to make sure he suffered for it. He gut punched the man, healed him, and punched again. He took out his staff and beat in Maximus’ head. After healing that, he began to cut the man.

After a few minutes he again asked. “So why did you try to take something that’s mine?” Maximus started stammering out an answer.

“I-I’m sorry! I’m SO SORRY! I’ll never do it again!” Voice cut the man’s cheek.

“I didn’t ask that. I asked why you did it.”

Maximus nodded his head and began to explain. Maximus was doing a very delicate business proposal. He was going to sell entire batches of high quality poisons to the kingdom of demons. Ever since Davros lost in the tournament, the dark elves had started murdering and going wild.

Maximus was going to become the dark elf king’s number one poison supplier. The dark elves had heard about the things Susan made, and wanted them as well. When Maximus said he couldn’t make them they threatened to destroy his entire empire. Therefore, he came to Susan to figure out how she did it. Maximus asked if Voice was going to let him go. Voice laughed.

Over the course of the next few hours, Voice gained quite a bit of knowledge about the human body. He slowly dissected the screaming man. Since the man didn’t have the courtesy of shutting the fuck up, Voice gagged him with some dirty cloth he found on the floor.

Whenever Voice would cut the man open, he would intently study the inside. After cutting the man’s forearm open, Voice watched each of the muscle spasms. He noted the part of Maximus’ body each muscle would flex. He burned the wound close, and continued to Maximus’ bicep.

He dissected Maximus’ entire body like this. He made sure to keep enough healing potions near him at all times. He would heal Maximus as much as possible, whenever he was on the brink of death. If Voice ran out of healing spell too quickly, he would simply pour his healing potion on the man.

After five hours of R&R Voice had made a mistake. He had cut too far into an artery and killed Maximus.

This skill will only grant a maximum of 10% knowledge of the dissected creature per creature dissected.

Current quality: Slight mistakes are committed often. Extreme mistakes are committed rarely.

Voice was a bit concerned about how he would manage to dissect animals and humans, but with the auto-dissect it wouldn’t be a problem. Now he just needed to find a way to kill humans without arising suspicion.

He had all but forgotten about the update. His thoughts turned towards his original plans. He had gotten off track by torturing Maximus for so long.

Voice washed himself with a quick waterfall like spell, and dried himself with a fire wind spell. Maximus’ body was gone, but in its place was an expensive looking black book. The book had gold trim, and had various types of gems imbedded in the cover. When he picked it up it sent out a burst of light. He focused his Inspect on it.

Ancestor picked that time to speak to Voice. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone cut open another quite like that before. Where did you pick it up?”

Voice started. He had forgotten Ancestor’s existence after not hearing from it for several hours. Oh, uh I just wanted to hurt him for trying to hurt my friends.

Ancestor seemed slightly displeased by this answer, but only slightly. “That’s fine, but don’t take it too far. That was one of the major causes of the war against the gods. Always remember, everything in moderation. Even torture.”

Ancestor didn’t seem to care that Voice enjoyed the torture. In fact Ancestor almost seemed about to give Voice advice on how to better do it.

Voice left the basement. He didn’t even bother cleaning up the mix of blood and water on the floor. He collected the stash of bombs in his room, and went to Evan’s. He made sure Susan didn’t see him, so that he wouldn’t have to have an awkward conversation about what happened.

When he made it outside, he noticed the group of people had died down. There was only a small handful left, so he waited until Evan was done.

Evan waved to Voice, as he saw him approach. “Boy, you’ve gave me a lot of work to do today!” Evan laughed at the sentence directed at Voice.

Voice apologized while looking bashfully at the ground. He mumbled, “Sorry. Did it help with the business though?”

Evan hurriedly answered, cursing himself for upsetting Voice. “Of course! I had about a dozen repeat customers today alone. The only problem is the material they bring. See I offer a discount if you bring the material, but all they could manage to bring is regular wolf pelts, or demon rabbit pelts. It takes a LOT of demon rabbit pelts to make any armor. Not to mention the poor sods that brought regular rabbit pelts. I did manage to sell quite a few of my weapons though. All thanks to you!” He clapped Voice on the back.

Voice gave a weak smile. “Thanks Evan. OH!” Voice acted like he just remembered something. “I forgot! The reason I came is to pay you back for the chainmail!” Evan shook his head.

“You don’t have to pay for that anymore! You’ve given me more than enough business as is!”

It was Voice’s turn to shake his head. “No, a deal is a deal. I won’t go back on my word.”

Evan approved of Voice’s words, even if he really didn’t care about payment.

“I don’t have iron, but I picked this up in the forest. I thought giving it to you would be the best choice.” He pulled out the Heavenly Metal. The light was pulsating with light at this point. Weird when I saw it in the forest it was just really shiny.

Evan and both of his apprentices stared at the metal with wide eyes. Evan even had to gulp, since he was starting to salivate.

“Um, Voice. You know what this is right?” Voice nodded. “Are you sure you’re ok giving this to me?” Voice nodded again. “ Really sure? There is no going back once I use this.”

Voice was starting to get annoyed by the constant questions. He wouldn’t let Evan know that though. Putting on his best smile he said, “Yes Evan I am completely sure. That metal is yours now. Do with it what you will.” Evan grabbed Voice’s hands in his own.

“Thank you! Voice you don’t know what this means to me!” Tears started glistening down Evan’s face.

Wait a minute how fucking good is that thing Ancestor?

Voice heard Ancestor chuckle. He wanted to take it back, but it was far too late for that. Evan nodded to himself, as if he had made up his mind about something.

In a slightly more gruff tone than usual, probably from the crying, Evan said, “Ok then Voice. I will make you a weapon out of this. Name it and it will be yours.”

For some reason Voice’s mind immediately went to Sais. Voice couldn’t figure out why. The only thing he really knew about them was that EDI like to use them to stab out people’s eyes.

He didn’t know why he would choose Sais instead of, say a dagger he could conceal; but since those were all he could think of, that’s what he blurted out. “I’ll take a couple of Sai if that’s ok.”

Evan smiled knowingly, and gave Voice a wink. “Sure, sure. I’ll just show my boys here how to smelt this, then I’ll get right on it. They will be done by noon tomorrow. Apprentices! FOLLOW!” The apprentices followed Evan into his house to learn the secret smelting Heavenly Metal. They were giddy with anticipation. Almost as giddy as Evan.

Voice frowned as he walked away. Why did I choose Sais? There has to be some reason. Was it to convince EDI to join my guild anyway? Hm

As Voice walked to the chapel, he tried to figure out why he told Evan to make Sais. The only thing he could think of was that he wanted to make EDI more powerful for when he recruited her. If she attributed her power to Voice, he would have a much easier time forcing her to serve him.

After convincing himself he had no human emotions towards EDI, Voice made it to the chapel. He sent a short message to Heather and told her to meet him at the chapel.

Voice entered the chapel. Sol was talking to the priests excitedly. The priests seemed to be avidly listening to Sol. The group of priests sat on the pews in the front row. Sol was talking from the podium. Voice walked up to the group. When he was close enough for Sol to see he coughed.

Sol looked up to see what had caused the noise. Seeing Voice Sol flew into his chest. Sol popped back out after a second. Voice apologized to the priests, as Sol flew around him.

“Sorry guys I need to bring him with me. There have been some disturbing rumors around as of late.” The priests were sad to see Sol go. He was in the middle of a story about what it was like the time he met Mar.

“I do have this though. It will probably be my last biggest donation for a while.” He handed the priest that always greets people at the door all of his OP bandages. “The great goddess herself has declared that no longer shall potions with those ingredients be able to be that powerful. Thus I give my final ones to the temple of Mar.” He gave a humble bow.

You have given the last of the most powerful of you potions to the priests of Mar, in bandage form. Mar has seen your generosity. Mar has awarded you with a drop of her power. The amulet of Mar has absorbed a drop of her Divine blood.

For donating the final drops of the most powerful of lowest level healing potions, you have gained 10 light affinity. For donating the last of a powerful potion you gain 30 piety.

Amulet of Mar’s Blood *IchorThis amulet was crafted in the Realm of the Gods. This amulet belongs to Mar. Invoking the prayer of Mar while indicating an ally, whose health has reached zero within the last minute, will revive that ally with 100% of their maximum hp, 50% stamina, and 50% mana.

You can use this amulet once per charge. This amulet becomes charged at noon.

WOOOOOOORTH!

Voice tried not to smile as he walked away. He sent Heather another message. This time telling her to do whatever she wants, as long as she stays with the city bounds.

He decided he might as well upgrade Sol while he had the time. He had the 1k mana, so there was really no reason not to. He went back to the tower casually. Talking to Sol about everything that happened in the chapel.

As Sol excitedly talked, Voice looked over his stat screen. He had a whopping 88 unused stat points. He was trying to figure out how to best use them. He could put 50 into int, that would give the skill Mana Affinity a rank boost. But he could also put 68 into wisdom. That would give him two rank boosts to Skill Enhancement, and increase his mana regen to a total of 15 points per second, before his stomach takes any. If he meditated, he would gain 30 per second. He could have his entire man bar filled in only about six minutes! Come to think of it, my mana regen is the worst regen I have compared to total amount. My health regen is at 1%/sec, my stamina regen is at 1.4%/sec, and my mana regen is only at .82%/sec. That’s HORRIBLE.

Voice scolded himself for allowing his mana regen become so much, comparatively, lower than the rest. If he was a mage, he should have freakishly high mana regen. He decided to dump all of his points into wis. His biggest problem recently wasn’t lack of mana, it was that he couldn’t regen it quick enough. With 17 regen per second that problem wasn’t as prominent.

After allocating his points, Voice noticed something. The people around him had no red lines on them. Alright, let’s think about this logically. I probably didn’t lose the skill. It’s still toggled on. He started thinking of attacking an NPC just to see if the red line would appear while in combat. The red line started to appear on everyone nearby. OH! OK! I guess I just have to think of them as enemies to see the red line. Makes sense.

When he finally got close to the tower, Sol had stopped talking. Voice didn’t know if the tower had some adverse effect on Sol, or if Sol just ran out of things to say. Voice took the silence as a blessing.

As he came upon the steps of the tower, Voice waved to the Shakespeare girl. He gave a slight bow and walked past her. Inside he saw several people surrounding the desk the guild master’s assistant worked at. No including the assistant there were nine people.

He heard the assistant speaking. “I TOLD you it was genuine! Now we don’t have anymore! UGH! After all of that work! My father’s work STILL can’t be proven!”

The old man shouted, and stormed out of the tower. Well he was storming until he saw Voice. “AH! EVERYONE! This is the boy I told you about!” I’m not a boy you old coot. Voice smiled at the man.

Voice started talking, even as the man grabbed his arm and started dragging him over to the group of people. “I’m here to upgrade my fairy. Also if I could I’d like to summon more fairies.”

The assistant seemed to be ignoring Voice as he went to the group. The group of men stared at Voice as he approached. A man coughed. He wore a blue robe, with stars and constellations drawn on it. He had a long white beard, which accented his long white hair. The man was about 6’4, and very skinny. Voice’s Inspect only brought up question marks when he looked at the man. The others gave names and wore regular clothes, except for the guild master’s assistant. His name was ‘Guild master’s Assistant’.

Voice went up to the man in the blue robe, causing the guild master’s assistant to release him. “I assume you are the head master?” Voice gave a slight bow of his head.

The man responded in a deep voice. “And how would you know that? It’s not like you can see any of my stats. Your Inspect is far too low for that.” He gave a slightly condescending smile.

Voice didn’t know how this man knew he had a high Inspect, but he wasn’t going to let some shitty NPC act like it was better. “Well, serrah, you are the only one in this room I couldn’t read with Inspect. Now I did notice that the two men to your left have fake auras, but besides that the rest are pretty easy to read.”

The group started laughing as if they had seen a small boy trying to lift his daddy’s sword. The star robe guy smiled at him. “There is no way you could have seen that his aura was fake. How did you know?”

Giving up on trying to impress the group, he answered honestly. “I took a wind class before. He wasn’t’ the one that taught it. That guy right there was. I naturally thought that was at least a high-level mage. So I figured they probably taught here, and I doubt that you’d have two high level people teaching the same class. It would be more productive to send one to another tower. So I knew the man to your immediate left should have a wind aura, and the man to his left shouldn’t.”

“Well, you are quite right. However, all of us here are using fake auras. That fact that you could deduce that does say a lot about your intelligence though. What level are you?”

Voice hesitated to tell him. Giving away Intel to a plausible enemy was never his strategy. He quickly weighed the cons with the potential gains, and decided to tell them man. “I’m level thirty-three. Why is that important?”

The man gave a considering nod. “Hm, well to be able to make a spell with so little time or study is indeed something worth great renown. How would you like to give one of us the ability to create these spell books for you? We can give you a cut of the profits.” With a wave of his hand a paper contract appeared. “Just sign here and we will be able to.”

Voice frowned. He didn’t know why but he felt as if he were being cheated.

You have learned all of the required skills to upgrade the Group Skill: Inspect. Would you like to exchange relevant skills for the Group Skill: Inspect? You can choose to fuse them at a later time. At that time say exchange relevant skills.

NO!

While it was very interesting that Voice could add the skill in two different places, he wanted to fuse it to Dissections first.

While pretending to read the contract he looked over his skill. He fused it with Dissection.

Body Language Analyst

Current Level: Novice Level 1 Exp 0.00%

Each level in this skill improves the accuracy of this skill. For every rank you increase this skill you will be able to learn more information from watching someone.

To level this skill you must learn more about body language. Different groups of people have different forms of body language.

You have learned all of the required skills to upgrade the Group Skill: Inspect. Would you like to exchange relevant skills for the Group Skill: Inspect? You can choose to fuse them at a later time. At that time say exchange relevant skills.

Voice inwardly sighed. His Inspect skill would literally take anything that could take information from the world besides reading. He decided to fuse both of the skills to Inspect.

In a defeated manner he thought, no.

He fused Skill Enhancement to Body Analyst.

Skill Enhancement Analyst

Current Level: Novice Level 1 Exp 0.00%

This skill allows the user to understand the best way to improve a certain skill. You must have ranks in this skill equal to or greater than the skill in question to view the best method of training.

You have learned all of the required skills to obtain the Group Skill: Skill Mastery. Would you like to exchange relevant skills for the Group Skill: Skill Mastery? You can choose to fuse them at a later time. At that time say exchange relevant skills.

Since his skill didn’t say he could fuse it with anything he said yes.

Skill Mastery

Current Level: Novice Level 27 Exp 04.44%

This skill allows you to use the benefits from: Skill Fusion, Skill Enhancement, Skill Dissembler, and Skill Analyst.

The rank in this skill is more than 1 rank below Skill Enhancement. Skill Enhancement has increased the level of this skill by 25.

The rank in this skill is 1 rank below Skill Enhancement. Skill Enhancement will increase the rank of this skill if it Skill Enhancement ranks up.

To level this skill you must do an action that would be encompassed in one of the skills that were consumed to make this skill.

This skill cannot increase in rank above Skill Enhancement.

You are the first person to forcefully increase the rank of a group skill. You have gained 500 exp.

Now Voice was already level 33. 500 exp wasn’t even 5% at this point, but it was still cool that he got a bit of exp boost.

Voice looked over this new skill for a moment. He was getting a lot of info from it.

So first of all, having the 50 points skill bonuses in a group skill is actually good? If I increase my int by another 50 I should get a rank boost from Magical Mastery. Hm. Then the attributes skills actually do give a version of exp for the skill. So if I were to get all of my attributes to 250 (Author Note* That would make the associated skill Master level) then any group skill I fuse it to would automatically be boosted to Expert!? OH HELL YEAH!

Voice made a mental note to get all of his attributes to 250. I guess that was the reason the stats had caps at 250. So even if you chose another class you could still get all of the skill bonuses from them. That was nice.

“Exchange Relevant Skills,” he muttered under his breath.

You have learned all of the required skills to upgrade the Group Skill: Inspect. Would you like to exchange relevant skills for the Group Skill: Inspect? You can choose to fuse them at a later time. At that time say exchange relevant skills.

You have exchanged all relevant skills for the Group Skill: Inspect. All relevant skills have been taken from your skill list. The total accumulated experience has been added to the Group Skill: Inspect. The total level requirements have all been added to the Group Skill: Inspect.

As you level this skill all parts of it will level up. For instance if you look at enough auras to level up, you will gain the benefits the other skills would have provided at that level. This skill takes more exp to level up to level two than all of the skills that make it up would.

Inspect

Current Level: Apprentice Level 34 Exp 36.36%

This upgraded skill allows you to use the benefits from: Identify, Identify Compatible Skills, Identify Skill, Sense Potency, Automatic Sense Potency, Sense Skill Potency, Mana Sight, and Aura Sight, Sense Motive, and Body Language Analyst.

You can inspect anything. The higher the level of Inspect the more information you gain on the thing inspected. You must be able to see the thing to inspect it.

This skill has been upgraded to encompass more skills. The exp and level will not be adjusted, but the exp requirement will be.

You have fused more than 15 skills together in the Group Skill: Inspect.

Inspect has gained 10 levels, maximum of 100.

So many freebies! Voice loved getting freebies. He did realize, however, that this meant other players could receive the same freebies. He needed to solidify his plans if he wanted to be able to make them come true before another player. If he was only a month ahead of other players, that meant in about a month players like him would be here. If he was to stand any chance of actually being the first to own a city, and a guild, he needed to speed the process up.

“Alright. I’ve read the contract.”

When he looked up Inspect was having a field day. He was getting more information than before, but the most exciting change was the fact that the info he was getting was a lot fuller than before. Not only was Inspect giving all of its old info, it was all more detailed. For instance, the fake wind aura guy now had a magical potency number pointing to his aura.

Each person had six additional numbers pointing to him or her. They were all percentages. Inspect gave Voice a rough estimate of what each person was likely feeling. There was two groups of three numbers. Each group told Voice how much the person was feeling two different emotions. For the guy in the robe it was Mirth at 60%, and Superiority at 30%. The two groups also had a number floating above them. That was the likelihood that each group was accurate.

(it looked something like this.)

Possibility 75%Possibility 20%Mirth 60%Cheerful 65%Superiority 25%Superiority 19%

Obviously, it didn’t show all of the emotions it determined the people to have, nor did it show all of the groups of emotions it determined the people to have. It only gave two each.

Voice decided to try to figure out what exactly the system meant by 60% mirth, 25% superiority. I guess he is happy that he is better than me?

Not able to find any concreate solution to his problem, Voice turned back to the man. “I refuse.” The entire group had a shocked expression.

The star man adopted a thoughtful expression. “Hm, and why is that may I ask?”

“Heh, well you didn’t really give me a choice did you?” The probable guildmaster grinned. Voice rubbed his chin. “I’ll be honest with you here. The only way I’ll let any of you reproduce my spell is if at least one of you becomes my slave.” The group gasped in unison. The Chosen of Mar condoned slavery?

“Not in actuality, but in name. I want to create my own Mage’s Guild, so I’m going to need someone to help me get started. Whoever becomes my Guild Leader shall be granted the ability to sell my spell.”

The ‘guildmaster’ gave a hearty laugh. “Very well! I accept! I will become your Guild Leader!” Everyone in the hall but the guildmaster became silent. Whoa, I didn’t expect that.

Voice had to ask. “What are your affinities, their levels, and who are you to this guild?”

The man replied offhandedly. “I have all eight affinities. I have mastered Light and Fire, the rest are all between 70-80. I am the Guild master of this Guild.”

The others recovered from their stupor. They started clamoring for attention.

“Guild Master! You can’t just abandon your post!”

“Guild Master! Who will lead us if you leave!?”

“Are you really going to leave us for a SPELL BOOK?”

“You have to many responsibilities to leave!”

“Can I have your job?”

“GUILD MASTER! What will we do with you gone?”

“If you leave guild master I will have to tell the council!”

“I CHALLENGE THIS BRAT TO A WIZARD’S DUEL!”

The last comment was the only one Voice caught. The others were too overlapping. He did manage to pick the sentences up, but he’d have to think back on it later.

He looked at the man that challenged him. It was the man who had been teaching Wind Magic. He was holding an imposing looking staff. One that had markings carved over the surface.

“Eh, no I’m going to power Sol up.” Voice immediately replied. The group looked at Voice, then started to argue amongst themselves.

“Also, assistant, I need you to help me upgrade my fairy.”

While the group was arguing the assistant nodded, leading Voice to where the ritual had taken place before.

The sun the assistant drew was even more detailed and large than the original. Voice added a drop of his blood to it.

“Alright, have your fairy step into the center of the circle.”

Voice directed his sentence to Sol. “Sol, go to the middle of that circle. You are going to get more power.”

Sol obediently flew to the center of the circle. Once the fairy was in place Assistant told Voice to start channeling. Voice channeled all 1000 mana into the circle. He wanted Sol to remain completely loyal, even if his constant talking was as annoying as hell.

As the mana left Voice, several small orbs of light started appearing in the circle. When they had stopped appearing, Voice counted 10 flying orbs. The orbs began circling Sol. Sol smiled, watching the display.

After Voice had channeled 900 mana, the smaller light fairies started constricting around Sol. They grew closer and closer as Voice used more and more mana. Once he had used the maximum limit, 1000, the other fairies had joined with Sol.

It seemed as though Sol had been surrounded by a halo. One that was absorbed into Sol’s body. When the ritual was finished, Sol flew to Voice.

“Master! Master! I have many new friends now! They wanted to see the world! I told them they could come with me! Is that ok? They said that they would help me cast my spells! Since they are only partly in this world, they can use more mana from the Realm of Light!”

Voice smiled as he petted Sol’s tiny glowing head. While Sol went on about the new fairies, Voice checked Sol’s status screen.

The abilities of a fairy are based on the element they are made of. Light fairies start with all stats but dexterity, agility, wisdom, and intelligence at 1.

For being a light fairy Sol’s wisdom and intelligence stats equal the user.

For using the maximum amount of mana in the summoning ritual you have maximum intimacy with Sol.

Sol has benefited from the piety of the summoner. Sol has gained 19 luck.

If fairies die while in combat they return to the Ether Realm, and must be summoned. As a higher order of fairy Sol will be summoned with all of the fairies that were a part of the enhancement ritual.

After the ritual was complete, the one that taught wind magic came to Voice, interrupting Sol’s monologue. “You have upgraded your fairy. It is time for our duel. If I win you must let the guild master sell you spell, and you will not take him as part of your Mage’s Guild.”

Voice waited a few seconds to see what he would get out of it. When the man did not continue Voice was dubious. “No.”

“What? You can’t refuse boy! I challenged you to a duel!”

“Don’t care.”

The man was fuming. “If you don’t accept my challenge then you lose by default!”

Voice sighed. The man smiled seeing that his taunt worked. “If you can make rules so can I. If I win the duel, you must do everything I say, forever. If I accept the duel I win by default. I accept the duel made with those restrictions.” Voice said the entire thing before the man could reply. Voice smugly looked at the man. Voice threw his hands up in a ‘what can you do’ expression. “Sorry I guess I just won.” Voice was pretty mad at having been interrupted during his summoning, so decided to piss this guy off.

“You can’t just make rules up!”

Voice feigned a look of shock. “Sure I can. Just like you can.”

The man looked around. Seven faces had no expression. One was laughing with his eyes. One went back to his desk, and Voice was giving him a condescending look. “Well now. Drop and do 500 push ups.”

When the man showed no intention of doing what he was told Voice gave him a flat stare. “You don’t mean to tell me you were going to force me into a duel, one I had no chance of winning, by making unfair rules. Now were you? I mean how is it going to look when I tell everyone that the teacher of wind magic here tried to bully Mar’s Chosen into giving away his self-created spell. I guess you’d probably be kicked out of the town at the least. Not to mention you would have to face Mar’s wrath. Oh, and since I sealed Davros himself, you would have no one to turn to, in order to get help.” The wind mage stood in abject horror as Voice continued.

“Well I guess there is one way around all of this, without having to obey me or be kicked out of the Mage’s Guild. You can agree to a duel I set the rules for. Sound good pumpkin?”

The man was furious. In fact the only two emotions Voice’s Inspect caught were fury at 85% and its lesser form anger at 12%. “FINE! What is the duel? Brat!”

Voice smiled. “Simple I will speak one sentence after the start of the duel. If you do not forfeit after one minute you win. If you do I win. There are absolutely no other rules. Anything goes. You can attack me or anything you want, but only after I say the sentence. If you win you get the guild master, and he can sell my book. If I win I get the guild master, and you have to give me that nifty staff you are holding.”

“DEAL!” The man was far too angry to think of what Voice might do to get him to forfeit.

Voice cleared his throat. “Guild master, make him forfeit.”

The man quickly paled. “CHEATER! You can’t involve others in our duel!” Voice merely shrugged, since he didn’t want to invalidate his side of the duel.

The guild master whispered something. It seemed as though only the wind mage could hear it. The wind mage started hyperventilating. The man looked at his staff. The look of longing on his face would have been heart wrenching that is if Voice admitted he still had a heart.

The man licked his lips, as if they had chapped. He closed his eyes, a single tear fell down his cheek. Geez I didn’t mean for it to be this fucking emotional. Damn. The man whispered, “I forfeit.”

Voice cupped his ears. The man cast an angry look at Voice. “I SAID I FORFEIT! There! Are you happy now!” The man seemed to be on the cusp of a torrent of tears.

“Yes, yes I am. Now your staff please.”

The man handed Voice the staff, but kept a firm grip on one end. Voice had to pull with all of his strength to get it out. “Please take care of it.” Another tear. Damn guy’s way to emotional.

Just then, Ancestor chimed in. “Look at the staff. I think you will see the reason he is so upset.”

Voice heeded Ancestor’s advice.

This staff has belonged to the Windweaver family for over a dozen generations. Having this item will make any Windweaver believe you are currently the best at wind magic within their family.

Ps. Are you really going to take this? The dude is crying man.

Voice sighed. Even though he ignored the Ps. from the system he knew his choices. If he kept this weapon, he would no doubt become the most powerful wind mage, at least for a while. If he did the ‘good option’ he would probably gain some compassion, not to mention loyalty of the wind guy. Voice inwardly sighed. He was being way to charitable for his liking today.

Putting on his best ‘fatherly’ smile, Voice said something that shocked everyone around. In monotone he said, “Wow this is so heavy. I don’t think I can hold it… on my journey. I wish,” Voice sighed and continued in monotone, “I wish that there was someone that could wield this staff.” He looked at Windweaver. Forcing himself to have a lighter tone, but still with a deadpan expression, he continued. “Windweaver, you’re good at wind magic. Want to hold on to this for me?”

His acting was nowhere near convincing, but somehow the people around him were looking at him with eyes filled with awe and respect.

Windweaver started outright bawling when Voice gave him back the staff. Voice didn’t even care about the windows at the moment. Windweaver was crying his thanks. Voice turned to the assistant guy.

“I was wondering if I could summon another sprite. I have the affinity.”
