Chapter 30 The Chaotic Duo Part 4

“There it is~”

As the sun was going down, we reached our destination, an overly luxurious and pompous manor. “This guy has no sense for aesthetics…”

“Nox, can we?” Fay flew around impatiently.

“Not yet. First, let’s infiltrate it.” I said while casually walking past the guards, guarding the big steel gate, and slipped through the gaps of its messy design; Fay dissatisfied following me.

The guards, unable to see us, made infiltrating child's play.

We walked around the mansion through the massive garden; who’s owner probably never set foot in once. At the back of the now lit up mansion, shining like an overly excessive beacon in the descending darkness, a window was left open.

I quickly jumped through it, Fay following. We stood in a big hallway, servants were coming and going in a hurry.

“Is the food still not done? Hurry up!” A person screamed loudly from one of the rooms.

“As soon as you are done, bring it into the office!”

My ears twitched as I listened, “Let’s look for the office.”

“But where to start? This building is so huge…” Fay, who was tired just from thinking about its size, rested on my head. “Can’t we blow everything into pieces?!” She protested, hitting with her small hands on my head…

“Patience Fay. First, I need to do a few things. You can sleep on my head if you want; I will wake you up when it’s time.” I walked through the hallway, looking for the stairs.

“Hmm…” Fay looked grumpy at me, “I won’t fall asleep; I want to watch!” She made herself comfortable on my fur…

“Whatever…” I thought and began to sprint, elegantly evading the servants. While doing so, a door caught my eye at the end of a hallway. I already had a weird feeling as we entered, but this door makes me feel uneasy or, to be more precise, to where its leading…

“This feeling reminds me of…”

I stashed the thought away for now as a staircase came into sight.

After arriving on the 2nd floor, I ran along the rooms, closely listening for any noises, until I finally heard a man’s voice talking to someone behind one of the doors.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“Good job! With this, they will have no choice but to sell the shop to me or go bankrupt! Haha, these dump tramps dare to disobey me and think they can get away with it!” His evil laughter rang through the door.

After a while, he regained his composure and ordered the other person, “Throw this puny recipe to the other trash.”

*creak*

The door opened and a suspicious-looking man left the room. At the same time, a servant bringing the food came. “Took you long enough!” The noble, whose face we could now see, complained.

“I’m terribly sorry…” the servant apologized frantically.

I quickly took my eyes off the old grumpy noble and followed the other guy, who, with a piece of paper, the presumed secret recipe, went downstairs.

“Nox…” Fay whispered into my ear, I could feel an unusual uneasiness coming from her voice as she stared at the suspicious man.

“Don’t worry, I got this.” I confidently whispered back.

The man looked around, making sure no servant was around, and then unlocked the door, which I had previously ignored, and quickly vanished behind it.

I walked closer to it, the door left slightly open so that a push was all it took to enter, “Well, let’s see what you have planned.” I thought and walked down the dark eerie stars, not letting the lantern that the man held out of my sight.

After a short while, we arrived in a normal looking basement filled with big wooden boxes, expensive looking wines, and other goods. I observed the man as he tossed the recipe into one of the boxes and vanished behind another door, but not before taking a quick glance back into the room.

“How inconspicuous…” I thought sarcastically and jumped on the box, which was left open.

In it was not just the recipe but other stolen goods,

An old-looking tea set with a name engraved,

“Wasn’t there a shop with the same name?” I thought as I put it in my storage and continued to rummage through the other stuff.

Old love letters…,

A bunch of jewelry,

A makeshift cook book with messy handwriting: “Do NOT read! Or you get fired!” written on the front page…,

And a… hammer…,

I took everything with me, and the only thing left in the box was the secret recipe, “Fay…, you wanna take a look?” filled with curiosity my tail moved slowly.

She nodded, unexpectedly, still wary of her surroundings.

“Then…” with my paw, I unfolded the paper.

Top secret!

Ingredients (add as much as you feel is right!):

-water

-flour

-salt

-butter

And the most important one, no one can ever find out about, is!

Grinded down bones of the rats that live in the walls.

Steps:

Fill the flour in a blablabla-

[Uninteresting…]

[More instructions…]

[Blablabla…]

[Who needs instructions if you can just wing it!]

Tip:

Use bones that have dried for at least three months; that makes it easier to grind them down.

And absolutely use rat bones! Mice bones make the dough taste funky and can induce hallucinations!

“…” Fay and I stared at it in silence, and I slowly folded the paper together again…

“Let’s pretend we never saw this…” I said to Fay, who nodded in agreement and I took the paper with me before jumping out of the now empty box.

“Ok, now after the sus guy~” I tapped open the next door, which, like the one before, was left open and entered a long hallway.
