Chapter 3 watery grave part 1

The moon reflected on the quite calm water surface; small boats tied to the pier gently swayed creating light ripples. The whole town was vast asleep.

A bubble filled with air made its way from the depths of the sea to the surface, disturbing it.

Another followed.

And another…

Slowly advancing in the beach’s direction.

Under the bubbles a shadow made its way up, breaking the once calm water surface.

Its heavy body dragging through the water.

Groans of anguish pierced though the silent night.

The bloated creature shuffling steps made its way onto the beach, its feet sinking into the wet sand, skin and flash sticking to it in the process.

Amidst the small wooden boats lying at the beach, the creature locked its gaze and proceeded its tiring walk toward the town, the moon illuminating its blue rotten skin.

I yawned as I stretched my limbs away from my body, as always, I had a peaceful sleep. I rolled over on my stomach and laid my head down…

“I don’t want to move… maybe I should sleep some more…?”

*sigh*

But I have a bad feeling…

In the past few days, I got this ominous feeling coming from the port…

And the rumors floating around increase day by day,

About the nightmares that more and more towns people experience. Well, it would be one thing if it would be just nightmares, but it’s said when they wake up their bed is drenched in sea water and a foul fish smell penetrates the air.

Some also feel like something heavy is sitting on them, making them feel as if they would drown and some who woke up claim to have seen a shadow leaving their room…

So, today for once I have to break my routine of lazing around and instead play detective and try to figure out what’s going on…

I hop down the roof I was sleeping on and make my way to the beach.

As I was walking through the town I noticed the strained atmosphere and then a familiar voice shouting,

“I will investigate this matter directly!” spoke the woman full with vigor.

“You have subordinates for that, you just want to ditch the paper work, don’t you.” Replied the assistant in an annoyed tone.

“Nothing goes over got old field work!” the wolf eared woman exclaimed while walking fast paced in the port’s direction…

“Wait! Stop!” the assistant shouted to no avail, the woman was already out of sight.

She shook her head mumbling “seriously the guild master never listens.”

I stood in front of her by now, looking at her with pity in my eyes.

She noticed my presence and looked back at me “Oh, its you, the cat from “Speisen”. What are you doing here?”

I looked at her and then looked at the direction where the wolf woman went.

“Did you want to visit the guild master?” she asked.

“Well, you are slightly off, but whatever.” I thought to myself.

She continued “She went off to the port to investigate the strange occurrences, lately we got allot of worried townsfolk coming to us requesting to investigate. Even the mayor put a formal request out,” she sighs and continues “the guild is after all responsible for the safety in and around the town after all, but for the guild master to go directly…” she sight again.

“You know, … you are talking to a cat right now… are you that stressed?” l looked at her worried.

She put her hand against her head again mumbling “I need a vocation; I already start to complain to a cat.”

She petted my head and went inside the building with a big sign writing “Abenteurergilde” hanging above the big double door, thinking aloud with a menacing look in the eyes about all the documents that the wolf woman needs to deal with once she returns.

“Let’s… go after her…”

I continued to make my way to the port.
