Chapter 11 A Cat’s Passion
The assistant stared at me intensely.
“…”
“Could you stop!?”
“I need to concentrate!”
“Don’t you have anything better to do?”
“Fascinating…, in all my years working here, I have never seen something like this.”
“How rude!”
“Do you disturb anyone who wants to read a book in peace and quiet?!”
I looked up from my book and protested with an annoyed “meow!”
Not too long ago, I made my way into the library to read a book about one of the ancient languages that caught my eye the last time I visited.
I went to my usual place in a quiet corner, where I secretly hid pillows and blankets, and made myself at home.
“Where did you get all this stuff from? You even have a lamp here…?”
I looked her directly in the eyes.
“Ahem, I of course acquired these in a perfectly legal way!”
“Meow!” was all she heard.
She looked at me with one eyebrow raised…
“It seems you have done this for a while now…, how come I never noticed this?”

“Maybe because you are too busy running after the wolf women.”
“… A reading cat…, the absurdity…”
She shook her head in disbelief; she really likes to do that.
I stared at her offended “First thing first, I’m not a cat! And what is your problem with a cat reading a book?! So closed minded, tsk.”
“Should I freeze her for now? I can always melt her down later…”
She noticed my increasingly irritated stare.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to offend…, its just…, can you really read that? It’s not just any book, but one that teaches an ancient language. Besides, most people have no interest in an old, unused language.”
As she finished her long monolog, I nodded proudly my head “Ha, of course I can understand it; I’ve been learning this particular language for a while now; it’s so fascinating!” I wagged my tail in excitement with sparkling eyes.
“I love learning new languages, be it in this life or my old one! You know, it came in handy when I first opened my eyes in this world; after all, spirits have their own language as well, so I couldn’t understand anyone at first!” I continued with passion in my eyes.

1 hour later…
“-and that is how I learned Elvish! As you can see, I am well versed when it comes to languages, so feel free to ask me anything~!”
I held my head high and stood proudly as I finished my exciting excursion into languages of this world and my old one.
The assistant clapped her hands in astonishment.
“I see you are really passionate about that.”
She patted my head.
“Then I will let you continue your book; I have to get back to work.” she said before getting up and leaving the library.
I, fully satisfied, made myself comfortable in the pile of pillows, “Mmm, it’s been a while since I talked so much~” and continued reading.

“Hey, Veronica where were you? We need your help.” the receptionist asked in a hurry, “The guild master ran away again.”
“Veronica, are you okay?” he asked worried.
“Ah, yes!” she snapped out of her dazed state, “I will go looking for her right away!”
“A-Are you really fine?” he asked, but she already had left the building.
“Did I imagine all that...? Am I overworked…? Even so, it’s a cat; I-I understood everything it was saying…”

The next day.
“I have a déjà vu… Why are you staring at me again?!”
I laid on the counter, observing the customers like usual, when Miss Assistant came in.
“Can you say something?” she asked nervously.
“Meow?”
“So, it was my imagination after all…” she mumbled to herself.
“Did she not get enough sleep, or is she hungry? Whatever, none of my business.”
I rolled into a ball of fur and took a nap.
