Chapter 8: Cavernous Confrontation

Chapter 8: Cavernous Confrontation

Solus and co walked through the tunnels of the cave, with the shadowy figure trailing far behind them. Lumina, still laying on her floating mana platform, let out a bored sigh as her floating platform bopped in Solus, who came to an abrupt stop.

"Could've warned me," Lumina snarked as she rubbed the top of her head. Solus glared down the two tunnels that stood before him and consulted the tracking magic card.

"Maybe we should split up?" Camellia jokingly remarked.

"That won't be necessary," Solus remarked as glowing yellow and lime, with trace amounts of dark blue spots, magic marks appear all over his arm before he punched his fist through the ground.

Solus rummaged his hand around the shattered ground before pulling out a small black gem.

Solus scoffed and crushed the gem as the magic mark disappeared. The group watched as the area ahead began to become distorted and the two tunnels merged into a single one.

"Illusion magic who would've thought..." Camellia commented as Metsu pressed her hand against Camellia's cheek. Camellia raised Metsu up to her eye level and looked Metsu in the eyes.

"You think so?" Camellia said to Metsu, who gave a confident head nod. Camellia was about to talk but realised Solus had already started to walk again, while Lumina was waiting for Camellia.

"Come on Cami; if we don't hurry Solus is going to leave us in the dust," Lumina remarked as she sat on her floating platform with her legs crossed.

"Right..." Camellia remarked, as Metsu noticed a dark shadow race behind Lumina and down the tunnel. Metsu aggressively squinted her eyes at the shadow until she heard Camellia call her name, making Metsu peer up at Camellia.

"Something wrong?" Camellia asked concernedly. Metsu firmly shook her head as Camellia placed Metsu on Lumina's floating platform before the group hurried after Solus.

Luminous, wearing a golden thread hakama, thanked the customers for their contribution to the shrine as he handed a pink ten-tailed fox to a kid as their parent paid for it. Luminous watched the duo walk away as he placed multiple Shin coins(thin silver coins with large S that have a dragon head and a hydra head on the ends of the S, with each having a coloured ring on them) into the donation box.

"Excuse me, mister," a female child asked as she tugged on Luminous' sleave until he crouched down to her eye level.

"Is something the matter, young one?" Luminous asked.

"Do you know where Solus and Lumi are?" the girl asked.

"They're currently dealing with a big bad yokai," Noir said with a spooky tone as he peeked his head over Luminous' shoulder; the girl's body shivered at hearing Noir's spooky words.

"Oo-h ok," the girl nervously said before quickly running off. Noir snickered to himself before being bonked on the head by Rose with her rainbow bell.

"Noir, stop scaring people!" Rose yelled as she raised her bell. Luminous let out a callous sigh whilst Rose repeatedly bonked Noir on the head as he pleaded for her to stop and promised he wouldn't scare anyone anymore. Luminous gazed up to the sky and spotted a shiny spot in the sky.

"It seems they've arrived earlier than expected," Luminous commented as he headed for the staircase of the shrine grounds.

Nebula lazily open her eyes as she felt Solus parkoured across a large ravine by using the stone pillars. Solus continued to parkour between the pillars as a ball of shadow with two purple eyes bounced across the pillars on the same path Solus took. Solus came to an abrupt stop causing the shadow ball to stop as well.

"Why'd you stop?" Nebula asked as she raised her head and looked around. Solus peeked behind himself before quickly looking at the tracking magic card. The shadow ball let out a quiet relieved exhale as it closed its eyes.

"I thought he spotted me-" the shadowy figure remarked from with the shadow ball before they were surrounded by a teal glow.

"Oh..." the shadowy figure muttered before they were abruptly ripped through the shadow ball and propelled towards Solus, who caught the shadowy figure by their chin using a single hand. Solus squinted at the shadowy figure as they nervously chuckled and made eye contact with Solus, with her glowing purple eyes.

"Heya Solus... fancy meeting you here," the shadowy figure awkwardly muttered as Solus lightly squish their face. Solus created a small ball of light mana to illuminate the shadowy figure's face revealing it was a short young girl: with long black hair with two heart-shaped pigtails, pale white skin, sharp teeth, two large fangs and black bat wings.

"What do you want, Tsarina?" Solus asked as he let go of Tsarina before she flapped her wings and floated on the spot. Tsarina sighed as she drooped her head.

"Isn't it obvious?" Tsarina responded as she raised her head.

"Are you still trying to get Sol-kun to form a pact with you?" Nebula asked as she joined Solus in squeezing Tsarina's cheek. Tsarina disapprovingly sighed as Solus and Nebula massaged her face.

"Yeah-yeah, my face is very soft but could you please consider it?" Tsarina pleaded as she pushed Solus and Nebula's hands away.

"Although the weapon created from a spirit pact between you is very useful I don't see why you're so insistent on making me your spirit partner," Solus remarked as he lightly flicked Tsarina on the forehead.

"Come on I already explai-," Tsarina managed to say before Solus abruptly wrapped his arm around her and lept into the sky as a shockwave raced into and obliterated the stone pillar, Solus was just standing on. Solus backflipped through the air and placed Tsarina on his back as he spotted the creature that had tried to sneak attack the trio.

Tsarina and Nebula frantically darted their heads around as they tried to spot the attacks but couldn't see anything.

"Solus, what's going on!" Lumina, covered head-to-toe with a glowing lime and blonde vein-like magic mark, yelled as she, and Metsu, surfed through the air on her floating mana platform while Camellia parkoured across the stone pillars.

"It's a sono-golem," Solus stated as the ball of light mana morphed into a sword before rocketing off into the darkness. The Light mana sword illuminated the cavern as it broke through the darkness before abruptly coming to a stop as it punctured a stone surface.

A grey triangular gem, above the mana sword, began to shine as vein-like magic marks began to light up on the tall stone golem that the light mana sword stabbed into. The triangular gem lit up, even more, as it condensed the air around it before firing out a strong shockwave at Solus; Solus scoffed as he closed his eyes and nullified the shockwave with a wave of telekinetic energy.

"A strong yokai must be close if a stone golem of that size has formed and is using wind magic," Tsarina commented as the golem pulled its feet free from the ground and slowly marched over to the edge of the ravine.

"Indeed," Solus commented as he stared at the brightly glowing tracking magic card.

"Are you going to use Nebi's Nebulous Requiem or my Severance Edge?" Tsarina asked as she smugly grinned at Solus; Solus let out an agitated sigh.

"Why'd it have to be a golem?" Solus muttered to himself as Lumina and the others caught up to Solus. Nebula and Tsarina were quickly covered in telekinetic energy before being lifted off Solus and onto Lumina's floating platform. Nebula glanced confusedly at Solus as the tracking magic card, covered by a teal glow, floated in front of her and into her hands.

"You gals follow the magic card's directions, I'll catch up once I've dealt with the sono-golem," Solus stated as yellow and lime with a little bit of dark blue vein-like glowing magic marks formed all over his body.

"Right... just try not to cause a cave-in," Lumina snarked.

"Be careful, Sol-kun," Nebula muttered as Lumina's platform floated away.

"Better not keep us waiting otherwise there might not be a yokai for you to fight," Camellia cheekily remarked before she parkoured after Lumina and the others. Solus rolled his eyes and got into a speed-style fighting stance as the stone golem's orange mana veins shone even lighter.

"Alright tough guy, bring it," Solus proclaimed calmly before he leapt into the air, right as a shockwave shattered the stone pillar Solus was previously standing on. Solus landed on some debris before jumping off it and propelling himself directly at the stone sono-golem.
