Chapter 31: Obstacles To Obstacles

A gleeful Inaka fluttered out of the house while carrying her comically large basket of multi-fruit/berry muffins. Solus closed the door after Inaka left, exhaustion evident in his eyes as he rubbed them. Solus turned on his heel but was stopped by Oshi standing before him. Although the two didn't utter a word, Solus could see the visual temperament of confusion on Oshi and crouched down to match Oshi's eye level.

"Got something on your mind, do you?" Solus asked. Oshi shook his head before pointing at Lumios, now back in his male appearance.

"He went all red and sparky, and then he was a guy again," Oshi whispered in mild amusement and excitement at the prospect of his ability being reversible. Solus briefly looked at Lumios, watching as he received confused mumbling from Lola and Camellia.

"So, he replicated your Azure Ability with his Alchemy?" Solus asked. Oshi nodded his head and tugged at Solus' sleeve while staring at him with puppy dog eyes. Solus nodded and rose to his feet before strolling over to Lumios with Oshi.

"You didn't even let the change set in before undoing it, not that I'm complaining," Lumina grumbled with snark coating her words. Lumios apathetically shrugged, stating he could've done it the second he originally changed but wanted to see if there were any long-lasting side effects.

"And before I answer your question, Solus, is it just me or do you sens-" Lumios stated before a tingling sensation shot through Solus and the spirits' mind, making them dart their gaze in the energy's direction.

"Prince of Zelkio, Why aren't you playing Neuiva Tao? It's eight forty-five!" Kara exclaimed with uncharacterised passion, her voice muffled as she smushed her face against the window with a clear view of Lumios.

"I suppose I lost track of time...," Lumios muttered while Lumina facepalmed. Tsarina whispered to Nebula, asking if she sensed someone using armitization nearby as well. Nebula remained silent, causing Tsarina to gaze at her and see Nebula still fully engrossed with the letter from her brother. Lumios sighed making his way to the hallway before briefly stopping.

"One and Xero, on and off," Lumios stated, swiftly light-dashing down the hall to his room as Kara clawed her fuzzy-furred fingers against the window. A silver scale-covered adult arm was plonked on Kara's head making her anteni slump from dread as her lips wobbled.

"My lady, if your only reason for coming to the shrine was to pester the prince of Zelkio; I would ask that you return to the mansion," an adult male asked, lightly squeezing Kara's dome and making her squeak like a dog toy.

"Ok-ok! Iyazun going!" Kara whined as her servant carried her away before the two flew away. Lola stared out the faintly scratched window, blankly inspecting it in a daze, before turning to Kusana.

"Did Destiny's brother make a pun?" Lola asked puzzledly.

"Huh?" Kusana mumbled in confusion, "How would Kusana know?".

"But he said zero with an x?" Lola said. Kusana shrugged before a small transparent/colourless energy field formed around her. She half-heartedly blinked, followed by her floating upwards off the sofa like she were in space, spinning around like a pinwheel. Kusana continued to rise until reaching the ceiling and sprawling her limbs out like she were on the ground.

"Daughter of Minia, Kusana requires help," Kusana stated with equal parts annoyance and indifference. Lumina placed her hands on her hips while raising an eyebrow at Kusana.

"Asking the second shortest option are you?" Lumina asked. Kusana huffed and crossed her arms, pouting with a neutral expression.

"Dumb azure flaring up," Kusana grumbled as the zero-gravity energy field dissipated before Kusana plummeted. Briefly falling, Kusana stopped in her descent as Solus subconsciously caught her with one of his tails, his mind too preoccupied with figuring out the meaning behind Lumios' words to consciously notice.

"What does one and zero have to do with on and off?" Oshi uttered as he and Solus pondered together. Solus raised a hand to his chin and hummed, the tune of which made Lola instinctively sway from side to side with her eyes closed. Lola swayed her body for a little long, her speed gradually diminishing before she slumped her head as she drifted to sleep. Lumina blankly blinked at the peacefully sleeping Lola in disbelief, anguish crawling into her mind as the implication of the turmoil from last night could've been avoided.

"It was as simple as humming Gramps and Grannie's song?" Lumina grumbled, her strength rapidly draining from her as she crumbled to her knees in defeat. Solus tapped his chin, his humming remaining, as a thought occurred to him.

"If I had to guess, it has something to do with how your azure ability works..." Solus remarked, adding Lumios use of an android's name must mean the two phrases have something to do with machines. Oshi nodded albeit not entirely following Solus' train of thought.

"I don't get it...," Oshi mumbled as he clasped his head, his trash can lid dinging against his fingers. Oshi continued to rattle his brain, his trash can lid rocking like a seesaw on his head before falling off and clanking against the carpeted floor. As they continued to ponder, Tsarina scaled Solus' back and sat herself atop Solus's head.

"It sounds like he was talking about binary numbers," Tsarina remarked cheekily. Solus shot his ears up before facepalming in disappointment at not realising it himself. Oshi perplexedly raised an eyebrow at Tsarina as he had no clue what she was talking about.

"How do you even know what that is; weren't you living in the forest when you weren't squatting in my closet?" Solus muttered. Tsarina shuttered before she crossed her arms in embarrassment with Zu also similarly crossing her arms.

"I wouldn't call it squatting! just think of it as you unknowingly hosting a guest," Tsarina blurted out, her face turning red as she held back from shouting and waking Lola up. Solus rolled his eyes at her, thinking her explanation made her actions sound worse than how he put it, before turning his gaze to Oshi.

"Say... how does your Azure Ability work?" Solus asked. Oshi meekly squished his fingertips together and murmured as he thought it over.

"Erm... I dunno I was just looking at... and then he was a girl," Oshi stated. Oshi raised his head before freezing up as he saw everyone, excluding Solus, hiding behind various furniture.

"...go on," Lumina uttered, her tails jostling from behind the sofa. Although a little disheartened at the other's reaction, Oshi scrunched up his face before scooping up his trash can lid hat and placing it on his head, lowered at an angle like a cowboy.

"I dunno... it just happened, it's like me asking you how you make muffins but only using feelings," Oshi grumbled a faint wobble in his voice. Solus closed his eyes, tapping his nose, as Nebula hovered beside him with her face mere inches from him.

"Sol-kun...," Nebula murmured in a pout. She poked Solus in the face, making him smirk slightly and open an eye to glance at her.

"Reading my mind are you?" Solus remarked amusedly. Tsarina lowered her head down to the two's level with her eyes narrowed to match her suspicion.

"I may not be able to read your mind but if Nebula is in a fit...," Tsarina said. Tsarina slowed her words, her expression souring as she realised what Solus was thinking. She sprung off Solus before landing on his chest and grabbing his shirt as she glared into his eyes.

"You think you're funny huh? The nerve to make a spirit pact, although for good reason, with Oshi only after a day of knowing them when poor little me had to struggle for months!" Tsarina voiced in disbelief while pulling Solus' shirt back and forth in a futile attempt to physically shake him. Solus narrowed his eyes into a glare, making Tsarina eep in shock before she dashed behind Nebula for protection.

"Perhaps, the thing hindering you was your approach," Solus uttered as he brushed his shirt while recalling a few of Tsarina's many prior attempts to get a pact with him: ranging from pouncing on him from a tree, multiple pitfall traps, putting herself in fake traps, and even handcuffing herself to him. Tsarina averted her eyes, a faint blush forming on her cheeks, and lightly bit the inside of her mouth.

"It's not my fault, I was told if I wasn't bold enough you'd ignore me," Tsarina stated, trying to defend herself while holding back a tear of embarrassment.

"And who's the wise guy who told you that?" Metsu asked from atop a wall cabinet, followed by Camellia collapsing to the floor after being put to sleep by Metsu's voice.

"... ... ...Lady Minia...," Tsarina said, her voice unusually quiet. With an unamused frown on his face, Solus scowled and covered his face as he pessimistically sighed.

"Somehow I'm more annoyed I didn't recognise Mother's tactics," Lumina grumbled. Tsarina nervously giggled and rubbed the back of her head.

"Sooo... I think if you do make a spirit pack with Oshi then it's only fair we make a spirit weapon together... don't ya think?" Tsarina said, stuttering and tripping over almost every word she uttered while Solus rubbed his temples in defeat.
