Chapter 3: Dinner Talk and Bath Attempt

Luminous sat quietly at his desk in his dimly lit bedroom as he methodically read the tattered-looking notes scattered across the desk. Luminous slowly raised some grey chalk-like mana crystal and began to carefully sketch a large, intricate magic circle(around 45cm in diameter).

Luminous managed to sketch three percent of the magic circle before his bedroom door was kicked open by Lumina, who was blushing before slowly crouching and curling up into a ball as her face started to cringe from the pain that shot through her body.

"F... that hurt," Lumina painfully muttered as one of Luminous' plated head tendrils extended and meandered over to Lumina. The tendril poked Lumina in the face a few times before Lumina swatted it away.

"Knock it off will ya, can't you see I'm hurt?" Lumina rhetorically asked as she glanced over at Luminous while still having a faint blush on her face.

"An interesting prospect maybe I should try to give my abyssal miruku tendrils eyes to increase my field of vision," Luminous commented as he wrote the experiment idea on a separate piece of paper, to the one he sketched the magic circle on; Luminous rambling but mostly because he seemed to be ignoring that she was in pain caused Lumina to angerly groan.

"Don't you care about my well..." Lumina managed to say before the miruku tendril above her head booped her on the forehead and created a mini aroura that circled around her body. The red mark on Lumina's foot faded away and she let out a relieved sigh.

"You could've used that LifeLight spell a lot sooner," Lumina remarked as she attempted to stand up but bumped into Luminous, who was now standing in front of her, and fell onto her butt.

"It would appear you're body still believes your foot is injured," Luminous mentioned as his extended miruku tendril retracted back to its original length.

"Yeah... no thanks to your idol...ness," Lumina said with a fake snarky tone while remarking, in her head, that this will surely make him feel a little sorry for her; however, what she didn't expect was for Luminous to abruptly pick her up(princess carry style), revealing the area under his cloak to appear to be a pitch black void.

"Wha-what a-are you d-oing?!" Lumina embarrassedly blurted out as her face became a bright pinky red.

"It would be inconvenient for me if you continue to sit in my bedroom's door frame," Luminous stated.

"Oh..." Lumina said with a disappointed tone while repeatedly poking the tips of her index fingers together and angerly murmured to herself.

"I assume you're here to tell me Solus has made dinner and wants me to attend?" Luminous inquired as he walk out of his room before golden strings came out from Luminous' cloak and closed the bedroom door.

"Y-eah... basically that," Lumina grumbled as Luminous walked through the living room and into the dining room, where Camellia was sitting by the kotatsu with Metsu sleeping on her lap.

"Oh hey, you two... what happened to you Lumi-chan?," Camellia remarked as she noticed Luminous was carrying Lumina.

"Her door opening technique was slightly flawed," Luminous stated as he placed Lumina next to the kotatsu before walking to a different side of it and sitting down himself.

"Right..." Camellia said with a confused expression.

"I kicked his door open but hit my hill on the door handle," Lumina explained, causing Camellia's face to cringe when she heard the explanation. Camellia eventually got over her induced cringe wave and glanced over at Luminous.

Camellia open her mouth and was about to ask something before being interrupted by Solus, with a half-awake Nebula on his back, entering the room whilst carrying multiple plates with his telekinesis.

"It's so nice of you to join us, Mr recluse; I was half expecting you to stay in your room since you've already left it today," Solus remarked in a joking manner as the plates of food floated above before descending onto the table part of the kotatsu.

"Your use of slights in an attempt to annoy me, are as effective as your attempts to strike me during sword practice," Luminous mentioned as he grabbed a bowl of rice and some chopsticks. Solus frowned a little at Luminous' more successful slight as he sat down at the kotatsu.

Solus, Lumina and Luminous(with Camellia and Nebula shortly copying them) placed their hands together and said itadakimasu before beginning to eat. Camellia took a bite out of a sandwich as she contemplated whether she wanted to ask Luminous a question.

"So, what were you going to say, miss Duskalov?" Luminous asked as one of his miruku tendrils was holding a bottle of malt vinegar and pouring it onto Luminous' food, seemingly without his knowledge.

Camellia was snapped out of her deep thought and was a little startled by Luminous' sudden question; she regained her composure and quickly rethought what her question was.

"Oh um... I was just curious about what you were studying?" Camellia asked inbetween eating her sandwich.

"I see... I can't tell you what my main focus is but I can inform you that I am studying and researching various forms of alchemy," Luminous stated before he placed some rice in his mouth and realised it didn't taste right while glancing at the miruku tendril holding the malt vinegar bottle.

"Woah really, if it's not too much of a hassle would you mind doing a demonstration?" Camellia enthusiastically pleaded.

"Perhaps another time, it would be rude to do so during dinner," Luminous stated. Camellia chuckled while commenting he was probably right.

"Since you're staying here, I can only ascertain you'll be attending the academy just like Solus and Lumina, miss Duskalov?" Luminous asked as he snatched the bottle from the miruku tendril when it attempted to pour more malt vinegar onto his rice.

"Please just call me Callie and, to answer your question, yes I am," Callie stated proudly.

"That so? Well, we still have a little over a week until the first day," Solus mentioned as he placed some sushi in Nebula's mouth. Camellia gave a nonchalant nod at Solus' comment and went to take another bite of her sandwich before she eventually registered what Solus had actually said.

"Wait what?! but, I thought it was this Praiday?" Camellia bewilderedly blurted out. Solus and Lumina looked dumbfoundedly at each other before glancing back at Camellia.

"Cami... you thought the first day of term was on the first day of the weekend?" Lumina hesitantly asked, with Camellia giving a reluctant and embarrassed nod. Lumina puzzledly shook her head while Luminous was contemplating something with a serious and perplexed expression.

"So, it isn't starting on Praiday?" Luminous asked, much to the annoyance of Lumina, who let out an aggravated groan as she slammed her forehead on the table part of the kotatsu.

After dinner, Solus scrubbed a soap-covered plate, before rinsing it off and handing the plate to Nebula, who was sitting on the kitchen counter. Nebula lazily took the plate before slowly drying it with a dish towel and placing it on the pile of other plates.

"That's the last one," Solus mentioned as he watched the water drain out of the sink and dried off his hands with the dish towel Nebula was previously using; Nebula slowly floated over to Solus and clung to his back as Solus was placing the plates and cutlery back into their draws.

"Sol-kun..." Nebula mumbled as she climbed up Solus' body and rested her chin on the top of his head before starting to nibble on one of Solus' horns.

"Yeah-yeah, I'll take you to the bathroom, just give me a sec," Solus requested as he placed the last spoon in its drawer before closing the drawer and walking over to the hallway.

As Solus was strolling down the corridor, he stopped in front of a family portrait(with young-looking versions of Solus, Nebula and Lumina, along with the siblings' parents); he inspected the portrait as he straightened it and let out a sigh before continuing down the corridor until he arrived at the door to the bathroom.

Solus raised his hand to open the bathroom door but, when his hand was inches from the door handle, he suddenly stopped when he heard the voices of Lumina and Camellia from within the bathroom.

"It sure feels nice having a hot bath after being out in the cold for hours," Camellia remarked.

"Sure is," Lumina replied as she watched Metsu, with half her head and some of her tail popping out from the water, floating around the hot spring-like bath.

Solus sighed as he lowered his hand and turned to walk away.

"Seems it's occupied," Solus remarked before walking off whilst Nebula let out a low angered hum. Solus managed to take a few steps down the hallway before the bathroom door slid open, causing steam to seep out, and Lumina popped her head out. Solus glanced behind himself and gave Lumina a blank glare.

"Could you..." Lumina managed to say before Solus turned around and continued on his way, making Lumina grumble.

"Your Foresight ability really gets on my nerves sometimes," Lumina angerly commented

"Yeah-yeah; also, I'll get you a new bottle of soap," Solus remarked as he stopped in front of a sliding door closet. He quickly opened it and picked up a bottle of soap before tossing it at Lumina. She narrowly missed the soap bottle before it flew over her head but managed to stop it from hitting the floor with her telekinesis.

"Thanks..." Lumina said with an annoyed tone as the soap bottle floated into her hand before she re-entered the bathroom and closed the door behind her with her telekinesis. Solus rolled his eyes before closing the hallway closet and continued his way down the hallway. Solus arrived at his bedroom but paused when he sensed Luminous standing behind him.

"Do you need something Luminous?" Solus asked as he turned around and noticed Luminous was holding a cup of coffee and two padded wooden training swords.

"It's time for your daily sword training," Luminous stated.

"But..." Nebula tried to think of an excuse for Solus but couldn't think of anything.

"I appreciate your attempt Nebi-chan but he already knows it always snows here," Solus remarked as he took one of the training swords and placed Nebula on the ground before following Luminous.
