Chapter 6: Yokai Mission

As the sun began to creep over the horizon in the early hours of the morning, even though you wouldn't be able to tell from the dark confines that are Luminous' bedroom, Luminous was once again sketching the intricate magic circle as the set of bubbling test tubes, on a separate desk, were begin to settle.

Luminous managed to complete ten percent of the magic circle before he glanced at the test tubes when they stopped bubbling. Luminous placed the magi-chalk on the desk as he stood up and strolled over to the desk with the text tubes on it. He picked up one of the test tubes and inspected it; he quickly checked the other test tube and compared the two identical contents of the test tubes before placing them back on the test tube rack.

"How peculiar," Luminous commented. Luminous sighed before picking up a blank magic card and walking back to his original desk.

Meanwhile, a pouting Nebula was angerly rolling around on her's and Solus' futon as Solus picked up a sparkly paintbrush.

"If you continue to complain; I'll hold you down with telekinesis," Solus said as he walked over to Nebula; she rolled into Solus' legs before sitting up.

"Sol-kun you meanie," Nebula murmured as she glanced up and glared at the paintbrush. Solus rolled his eyes as he spun her around, by pushing her legs with his foot.

"Just show your back; otherwise the cheese toast sandwiches will be burnt by the time we're done," Solus stated before biting his thumb until blood started to spit out and drop onto the brush of the paintbrush; Nebula flinched at hearing the sandwiches were in danger before frantically tearing off the bedsheet off herself and exposing her naked body.

"Sol-kun, hurry; the cheesy toasties are calling me," Nebula boldly stated as she sat up straight with a serious expression, making Solus roll his eyes.

"It's always food with you," Solus muttered as he placed the tip of the paintbrush on the faint spirit pack mark, a large glowing yellow and lime-coloured magic ring with a dark blue symbol, on her back causing her body to shiver and crumple like a stack of cards.

Solus light-heartedly rolled his eyes as Nebula slowly sat back up; Solus continued to reapply the spirit pact mark before hearing multiple loud crashes and the duo looked in the sound's direction as Camellia's muffled voice was shouting at Metsu to behave.

"Remember when you were like that?" Solus rhetorically whispered into Nebula's ear and made her slump her head with a bright red face.

After a few seconds, Solus finished reapplying the, now brightly glowing, spirit pack mark to Nebula; he tossed the paintbrush into a bin before it crumbled to dust. Nebula lightly sniffed the air and instantly spun her head and gave Solus a strong stare.

"Yeah-yeah, I'll go check on the sandwiches; just make sure you wear clothes today, alright?" Solus asked as he walked out of the bedroom.

"Ok...," Nebula quietly mumbled to herself. She slowly stumbled to her feet before waddling over to the wall wardrobe and opening it. She reached into one of the wardrobe's drawers and pulled out some dark blue leggings. She quickly put the leggings on as she noticed the clothes-free spot in the draw.

"Oh... no shirts," Nebula thought as she glanced up at Solus' nineteen identical yellow hoodies.

Nebula exited the bedroom, now wearing one of Solus' hoodies which only had its top three buttons done up and floated over to the kitchen.

Nebula, with Rose and her rainbow-coloured bell sitting on her head, peaked her head into the kitchen and noticed Solus placing the cheesy toastie sandwiches onto a plate.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Solus placed the last sandwich on the plate as he felt Nebula flump onto his back and start to rub her face against his horns.

"Mind telling me why you're not wearing a shirt?" Solus asked as he felt Nebula press her body harder against his back while letting out a low hum.

"No more shirts," Nebula mumbled as she nibbled on one of Solus' horns. Solus sighed while mentioning there were definitely some there last night as he heard Camellia(now wearing a black fur coat and purple fur trousers) and Lumina enter the living room.

"I thought you were being hyperbole when you said Metsu would be feisty, but I think you severely understated how violent she'd be," Lumina said as she cringed when she rubbed the scratch mark on her cheek.

"Ow... but I think you're just desensitised, Cami," Lumina added as she looked at Camellia's scratch-mark-covered face.

"You think so?" Camellia confusedly asked as she placed an unhappy Metsu on top of her head; Lumina defeatedly sighed as the two entered the dining room and sat at the breakfast-covered kotatsu.

A few minutes later, everyone, including the shrine spirits, was eating breakfast when a magic card flew across the room and was caught by Solus.

"What's that?" Nym muffledly asked while nibbling on some sushi.

"It's a magic card with tracking magic applied to it," Luminous stated as he entered the room at sat down at the spot on kotatsu with three bowls of rice.

"Which kind?" Nym asked.

"Both," Luminous stated before beginning to eat and striking one of his miruku tendrils when it attempted to grab the malt vinegar bottle.

"I presume this has to do with the yokai that appeared last night right?" Solus inquired as he took a bite out of his sandwich while Lumina's kitsune ears perked up when Solus uttered yokai.

"Wouldn't that be the second one this week?" Lumina rhetorically asked.

"Indeed..., well, the ones that made it onto the shrine's premises," Luminous stated as his miruku tendrils picked up the rice bowls and the other tendrils began to eat the rice.

"And after examining blood samples from the two yokai I confirmed the two were from the same origin," Luminous stated as he took one of the rice bowls back from the miruku tendrils; Solus slowly stood up while Nebula grabbed a handful of sushi.

"Ok-ok I get it I'll go deal with whatever the yokai origin is," Solus said before finishing his sandwich and walking off.

"Hey wait up!" Lumina yelled as she fumbled to her feet and rushed after Solus; Camellia watched Solus and Lumina walk away before glancing over at Luminous with puppy dog eyes.

"Very well; but make sure you tell Solus and Lumi that there's going to be a guest visiting this evening," Luminous stated. Camellia thanked him and told him she would before hurrying after the siblings. The shrine spirits gathered around a plate of udon noodles and began to eat it.

"Is it the shine-zy phio-zix guy?" Gold asked as she nibbled on some of the udon noodles.

"Well he's one of them," Luminous replied before continuing to eat his rice.

Meanwhile, a tall adult male, whose entire body was made from slightly liquidy magisteel, soared high above the ocean: he has hair made of magisteel with pale white tips, white magisteel eyes with glowing white ring-shaped pupils, two large phoenix wings with white tips and eight phoenix tails with white tips.

The metal phoenix looked at a map on a holographic green map on a tablet while two kids, one being a two-year-old girl kitsune(who has green hair with metallically silver ends, golden with five-pointed star pupils, pale white to the point it's faintly cyan, two kitsune tails and kitsune ears that have the same colours as her hair, along with wearing a black fur dress and silver fur leggings) and the other being a six-year-old girl seraph elf(who has spikey super pale glowing cyan hair tied into two hair buns with white scrunchies, glowing pale teal eyes with large pupils and the white parts of her eyes slightly glow, slightly translucent tanned skin and super pointy ears, along with wearing a dress made from white(light) mana and thigh high socks made from black(shadow) mana) were tugging on the phoenix's magisteel fibre robe.

"What is it?" the phoenix asked while turning the tablet upside down.

"A-a-a-a," the kitsune tried to say but kept being interrupted by the strong wind current blasting into her face.

"I believe what my... um sis is trying to verbally inquire to is whether we're lost or not," the seraph elf asked while shielding her eyes from the wind.

"Of course not, I just don't understand how this device works... just to be clear that doesn't mean we've lost." the phoenix replied; the seraph elf chuckled at the phoenix's reply.

"That's pretty ironic coming from you," the seraph elf snarked while smugly grinning, making the phoenix sigh.

"Your snarkiness is almost as bad as your mother when she was your age," the phoenix mentioned as the kitsune said she was hungry.
