Chapter 15: Evaluation of Compatibility Part 1

Chapter 15: Evaluation of Compatibility Part 1

Sovereign strolled over to the hexagonal crystal sphere as a purple magical book with black flat circles and an octagon lavender gem on the front cover floated behind him.

"Before we begin with the examination, could I have a raise of hands of who already has a spirit partner?" Sovereign asked with a rhetorical tone causing Kara to groan and glare at him.

"Father, why are you asking a redundant question when you already know the answer?" Kara uttered while stroppily crossing her arms and making her antennae wiggle. Sovereign snickered to himself before raising a hand and allowing his catalyst (the floating book) to land on the palm of his raised hand.

"Just because I'm the current god incarnate of Truth and Knowledge doesn't mean I know everything at all times, Fluffball," Sovereign stated with a smug smile. Kara huffed and crossed her arms.

"But you have the Chronicle Codex in your hand," Kara uttered agitatedly. Sovereign snickered while he glanced at the Chronicle Codex as it sat on his hand.

"Fair... but you know that's not how it works," Sovereign added, making Kara rolled her eyes in annoyance. Sovereign tapped a finger against the back of the Chronicle Codex, and it flipped open as a mist of red qi erupted out of its pages. The red qi (energy with a particle effect) fluttered through the air and twirled around the students before gathering behind all of them and taking on the shape of chairs arranged into sets of ten chairs organized into rows of five.

"Now why don't you lot take a seat while I make a few preparations?" Sovereign recommended. The twenty students sat down in the seats provided by Sovereign and watched Sovereign as he flipped through the pages of the floating Chronicle Code. Solus leaned back in his chair while Nebula sat on his lap, Tsarina sat on Nebula's lap and Zu sat on Tsarina's head.

"Heh, I'm surprised you're taking this course, Sol, given what you do in your spare time," Galethorn Dragon-Heartren jokingly remarked as he sat in the chair next to Solus and raised a fist to him. Solus smirked as he raised a fist to Galethorn and fist-bumped him. (Gale's a Chinchillia [dark green chinchilla ears and a super-large, fluffy dark green chinchilla tail [that they can sit on and allow them to fly], and fluffy dark green fur all over his body]; he has Short scruffy dark green hair tied behind his head, sparkling green eyes with black sclera, has the appearance of a seven-year-old, and slightly female body proportions feminine)(like Kara he's only wearing the academy's scarf given his body is covered in)

"I could say the same to you, Gale, but I take your reasons for coming here is the same as mine," Solus remarked.

"If you mean my parents forced me to then yes we do have the same instigations for coming here," Gale remarked playfully as he noticed Camellia squinting at him. Gale glanced between Solus and Camellia before he itched his head nervously.

"You sure have a lot of female friends, Solus," Camellia remarked, causing Gale to flinch in his chair and blush a beet red.

"Girl?!" Gale blurted out, getting the attention of some of the other students and causing them to mutter they thought Gale was a girl as well.

"Oh... you're a dude?" Camellia meekly asked, to which Gale shyly nodded with a fainter blush on his face. A pair of disappointed, whiny feminine sighs passed Gale's ears. Gale glanced back to see the goblin twin sisters Xiazorm Linyorath and Pitto Linyorath sitting next to each other with disappointed expressions. (Xiazorm's a short blue-skinned goblin; she has long pitch-black hair with a fringe over her left eye, blue eyes, small fangs, and super pointy ears)(Pitto's a short blue-skinned goblin; she has long pitch-black hair with a fringe over her right eye, red eyes, pointy ears, and large fangs)

"There goes our idea of running a maid-run food stand during a school festival with a chinchillia as the mascot...," Pitto murmured.

"However; maybe more people would come if the maid was a femboy?" Xiazorm remarked. Pitto nodded at her sister's insight.

"Yeah..., but wouldn't it be rude to ask a guy to wear one when he's just made it clear he doesn't like being mistaken for a girl?" Pitto added. The sisters sighed in unison once again before glancing at Gale to see him whispering to Solus. Gale took a peek at the sisters before fully turning his head to face them.

"I'll only do it if some of the food served at the stand is made by my boy Solus here," Gale requested, causing Solus to slightly look away.

"How would you rate his cooking?" the goblin sisters asked. Nebula popped her head out from around Gale.

"One time Gale ate one of the star-shaped banana cookies Sol-Kun made, and he squealed like a three-year-old girl," Nebula stated, causing Gale's whole body to turn a bright beetroot red.

"Deal!" the sisters announced in unison. Gale slumped back in his seat while Solus was mentally on the verge of laughing but showed no physical signs of laughing.

"I know you're getting a kick out of my embarrassment," Gale uttered as he slowly returned to his usual colouring.

"You know me well," Solus said with a relaxed voice. Gale rolled his eyes playfully while crossing his arms and stretching his legs.

While the group continued to talk about the maid-themed food stand and eventually wrapping Camellia into it, Nini Kimitorou silently listened to her music from her pink fuzzy cat-themed headphones while the faint blush on her face faded. (Nini's a teenaged, kid-sized half ghost [transparent see-through body] and half shibaru [pale turquoise shiba Inu ears, slight sharp canine teeth, and three poofy, big pale turquoise fluffy tails]; she has slightly long curly glistening pale turquoise hair with some scruffy spots, pale purple eyes with a pale turquoise left pupil, pale transparent turquoise skin)

"Why do all the cute demi-humans have to be guys? At least that demon girl's spirit partner is a female...," Nini remarked mentally before she took a brief glance at Solus.

"Speaking of people's spirits... non-matching genders is rare in itself... but why does he have two... unless the spider is the vampire spirit's spirit wielder?" Nini thought with her tone becoming more confused as she thought over the possibilities.

"It's rude to stare, Nini," Ano Aboloan stated coldly as he read the fifteenth volume of a novel. Nini glanced at Ano and sighed before she leaned closer to Ano. (Ano is an arachnoid [a human with pale red skin with a spider-exoskeleton-like textured skin, solid jagged rudy red hair, two normal red eyes with four smaller ruby gem spider eyes [one above and one below each normal eye], and he has two arms])

"But doesn't that guy look like the guy who cut four of your arms off?" Nini whispered to Ano, causing Ano to close his novel.

"For the last time, he did it for my sake," Ano stated calmly.

"You say that but-".

"No buts, if you're so insistent on knowing why don't you ask him yourself why he did it?". Nini grumbled and angrily murmured to herself. Sovereign clapped his hands to get the students' attention while the Chronicle Codex floated beside him.

"I've finished the preparations, so let's begin with the examination," Sovereign stated while gesturing for the first person in the front row to step forwards.

"However, before we begin I have to do the mandatory explanation for the basics of Spirit Union Aptitude. Spirit Union refers to the compatibility between the Spirit Wielder and their Spirit Partner, and depending on the percentage you'll be assigned a rank; less than fifty percent is an F-Rank, fifty to fifty-nine is an E-Rank, sixty to sixty-nine is a D-Rank, seventy to seventy-nine is a C-Rank, eighty to eight-nine is a B-Rank, ninety to ninety-nine is an A-Rank, and a hundred percent is an S-Rank. That's all," Sovereign stated.

The first students stood by the hexagonal sphere while nervously looking at her feet.

"You worried you'll get a low score because you only recently made a spirit pact with a spirit you've recently met?" Sovereign asked. The student was shocked to hear Sovereign be so on the dot on what she was thinking but realised how dumb thinking Sovereign didn't know, given who he was.

"Yeah...," the female student uttered meekly.

"You don't need to fret. Even if you do get a low score it's fine; given the aptitude isn't about strength but the bond between the Spirit Wielder and the Spirit Partner, you know like those relationship bars in dating sim games," Kara stated from within the crowd of students. Sovereign chuckled at Kara's choice of example.

"Yeah... what Kara said," Sovereign stated. Sovereign instructed the girl to place her hand on the hexagonal sphere before mixing her qi and her spirit's spirit energy together to create the spirit mana. The evaluation gem will then scan her spirit mana to evaluate her Spirit Union Aptitude. The girl placed her hands together before she gathered her yellow qi (energy with a particle effect) and her spirit's green spiritual energy (spirally-looking energy). With a little bit of effort, the girl managed to meld the two energies together and formed a yellow spirit mana which had a fuzzy effect.

"Good, now phase your spirit mana into the evaluation gem," Sovereign instructed. The girl nodded and placed her spirit mana into the hexagonal evaluation gem. The gem shone to life, and after a few seconds the light died down again, leaving floating letters, numbers and a symbol inside the gem; the duo glanced closer to the evaluation gem and saw it said C and 71%. The girl was a little shocked to see how high it was, and Sovereign noted down the girl's results on a digital tablet.

"This is a good score given you said you only formed the spirit pact recently," Sovereign stated. The girl bowed to Sovereign before hurrying back to her seat, followed by the student sitting next to her standing up and walking to the evaluation gem.

A majority of the student went through the evaluation with ranging amounts of difficulties, and their results ranged from fifty-five percent to seventy-seven percent. Sovereign called for Ano, and Ano closed his novel before walking over to the evaluation gem.

Ano raised his hand free hand; he easily manifested his green qi and his spirits orange spirit energy before melding them into green spirit mana. Ano placed his spirit mana into the evaluation gem before it presented him with a B-Rank and a Union Apptirute of eighty-nine percent.

"First B-Rank impressive, Ano," Sovereign said as he noted down Ano's results. Ano bowed before returning to his seat. Nini shot up from her seat and gracefully strolled over to the evaluation gem. Gale amusedly hummed to himself as Nini approached the evaluation gem, and Gale's humming caught Camellia's attention.

"I wonder what the Wyvern Princess' rank and aptitude will be?" Gale remarked aloud, with the other students muttering similar sentiments. Camellia leaned over to Solus and poked his arm.

"Wyvern Princess? Does she have a wyvern spirit?" Camellia whispered to Solus.

"The nickname refers to her spirit weapon," Solus whispered back. Solus' swift answer caught Camellia's suspicion, and she squinted at him.

"How do you know info that so quickly??". Solus sighed as he crossed his arms and unintentionally hugged Nebula and Tsarina, not that either of them minded.

"The shrine spirits saw her on TV a few weeks ago and wouldn't shut up about her a few weeks back," Solus stated with a fed-up tone.

"Oh..., just like idol fans?".

"Exactly like idol fans," Solus stated.
