Chapter 9: Trouble

Chapter 9: Trouble

{Sonic boom happens as A52 flies upward toward the people gracefully falling with parachutes.}

Woah! That one had been close, but luckily, no one died in the accident, so everything was okay. I say to myself as the cargo plane keeps violently bursting into flames. Well, maybe someone will be furious about that, but hey! No human lives were lost! Isn't that worth more?

[A52's imagination]

"MOTHER %@%$%@% that plane had over a million dollars worth of product. I will send whoever is responsible to Yisus!"

[Back to reality]

Yeah, whoever owned the plane is undoubtedly going to be pissed, but not my fault, as far as I know. Oh, wait, it is technically all my fault. If I hadn't awakened and broken stuff inside the lab, then I would've never had to board a plane in an emergency shady way! Oh wait, am I actually the one to blame?!

{A52 whistiling}

I don't know anything about that. We'll just blame the pilot for it. I bear no responsibility whatsoever. Well! Maybe just a little tiny bit! I can't help myself. I feel bad now. How can I even make things right? It's not like I can pay back a plane; I have no money.

Uhmm? Maybe my owner can give me a loan? How would I even work? I have no paperwork! Oh, man, I don't want to think about it. I'll pretend I don't know about it and shove my guilt under the rug! Yeah, that'll do.

[Low fuel alert. 10% remaining]

I should make it to Anton and the rest soon to stick with them before I run out of fuel. Without further ado, I ignore the men pleading with me in the ground and leave for my crew as I quickly burn through the last bit of fuel.

A few seconds later, I finally made it to Anton and the others as they depleted their parachutes. My fuel was about to run out, so I quickly landed on Anton's back. Once I got a good hold of him, I simply hugged him as I turned my propulsors off.

"You're one crazy girl. I'll grant you that." Anton said as he didn't even bet an eye at me. Oh, cool, Anton! It's not like I just did a fantastic stunt five seconds ago! Nerd!

Ivan was nearby, holding a small device to his mouth as he clicked some buttons. My scanning tool soon told me it was a radio, which made me think he was calling in for some help, but what I heard when I tapped into their frequency made me a little nervous.

{Ivan is far enough where the air blocks most of the noise for regular people.}

"It was a success {Radio interferance} A52 is going to be stranded with us {Static} Before they do." I couldn't fully tap into their entire conversation, but the bits I was able to catch up worried me.

I could somewhat recreate their message with my logic, which said.

[The plan was a success (Plane crash?) A52 will be stranded with us (Get here) before (her owners?) get here]

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

I had a bad feeling about it. I thought the shady one was Anton, yet Ivan looked even worse! Why would anyone want me stranded in the middle of the desert? Only for something terrible, that's what. Is there any way I can call for help? Now that I have unlocked some of my systems?

[The S.O.S. call was made already; help is on the way]

How lovely of you, mysterious voice! I still want to know what you are, but I'll leave you alone as you seem pretty helpful to have around. After a few minutes more of parachute descent, we finally landed in a canyon in the middle of the desert. Now what?

"Well, looks like we just have to wait now. Do you have any installed video games or something, droid girl?" Anton graciously asked as he took off his parachute.

"Hey! That was rude. I'm not a walking video game console. We will be here for a while, so we better find something to do." I replied as I tried not to think of Ivan much. If it is a spy or a hitman, It is wiser to play it like I know nothing so he doesn't do anything stupid or erratic that might hurt someone.

At the end of the day, I would rather sacrifice my existence for humans. Humanity can always make another me in another hundred years, but I can't bring people back to life. It's game over for them if they die, but not for me. I will still exist, just not as a living being.

I wonder why I think this way? It's nowhere in any protocols like before. My logic comes from my own desire, not forced upon me. Weird. Ivan looks at me with a guilty stare as he tries to look away right after.

"It's okay," I whispered so nobody could hear me.

Now, for the next several hours, we did practically nothing. The people chatted while sitting under shade, and I simply listened as I wasn't particularly interested in all their gossip.

They talked about how lucky they had all been. All their other near-death experiences, and stuff. It got to the point where they kept going on and on with useless conversations until I noticed some black cars approaching the horizon as the sun went down.

"Hey guys, I think someone is coming," I informed everyone as I zoomed in to the max with my cameras.

They were still a couple of miles away, so my vision wasn't as clear, but I could clearly see armed men on top of some of the cars. What did they need guns for? Me? No way. I'm not bulletproof. All of those guns will vaporize me, and more importantly, what about the other people? Will they be killed?

As I was about to zoom out, I noticed shady movement from one of the cars. A man stood there strangely, staring back at me like he could see me. I felt strange as I saw him put something pointy to his shoulder, but when he began loading something into it, all my alarms went off. He was about to launch a missile towards us?! What?!

Quickly locking his direction, I zoom out and begin looking for a large enough rock as I try to activate my propulsors again. Anton quickly interferes as I scan the ground, looking for the perfect decoy.

"What's wrong, droid girl?” Anton asks. “Those people! Not friends!" I couldn't even muster the correct sentence as I went into full survival mode, only thinking of solutions, leaving little memory for speech. I soon found a suitable rock as my hand propulsors heated up.

"Enemies? No one else but the A.T.F. and Anabel Co should know our location." Anton said as he turned around just to see Ivan pointing a gun at him.

"Nothing personal, Anton. Get on your knees! You guys, too," Ivan said as Anton and the plane crew complied while we were all about to be turned into soup.

"Ivan, why? We grew up together, man. What are you doing?!" Anton confronted Ivan while on his knees as Ivan prepared to shoot him.

"You just never break the rules, do you? That's why you're broke."

As Ivan was about to shoot Anton, a mid-air explosion soon reminded everyone of the danger. I had just barely saved their butts. I gambled with the projectile tracing system, and it worked! The heated rock worked like a charm as I made it so hot it would be unmissable!

The explosion shook everyone, including Ivan, who stumbled for a couple of seconds, during which Anton took advantage of the situation. He quickly moved out of the way of the weapon and made a strange move with his legs until he made Ivan fall to the ground! That's cool! Are those martial arts?
