Interlude: New Delhi disaster

Interlude: New Delhi disaster

[India, New Delhi]

[Year: 22xx?]

{Weird monstrous noises mixed in with people screaming in a panic}

"Waaaahhgg! Tasty, delicious, meaty humans!" A monster was spotted at the town square of New Delhi, one of the most populated cities in the entire world. Our jobs were to keep the people safe, but how would a policewoman be meant to kill such a thing?

The monster spotted was told to have a gargantuan body with tentacles coming out of his body in every direction. I didn't want to believe it at first, and the department took it as a kid's joke until thousands of calls came in, all reporting the same event happening at once with the same monster description. Damn it.

The entire police department was dispatched to take care of the creature, and so far, there have been forty casualties, and every unit is being called, even if we're not currently meant to be working like me. Our instructions are to delay the monster as much as possible until the military arrives. I'm sure I won't see the light of day tomorrow.

I repent for all my sins. Oh god, please bless my soul and see that I cross the doors of heaven if I die here today. I'm scared while I hide behind some rubble near the raging monster who breaks havoc around the city. The callers were not exaggerating with their panicked descriptions of it.

The monster is about fifteen feet tall and walks on four legs with many long tentacles floating around its chest. His skin is dark brown with reddish spots all around his body, and his face resembles a giant king crab with human-like features. It's creepy to look at it, and anyone who does feels immense fear.

Nobody knows where it came from or what it wants. Humanity has never seen such creatures, and even if there are strength multipliers worldwide, they're costly and slow. The monster appears to have an appetite for human beings, and it is almost bulletproof, as even higher caliber rounds don't seem to scratch its body.

Next to me, a rookie is shooting the monster, who is barely bothered by his assault riffle shots until he, too, is killed by one of the monster's tentacles. The beast is so fast I barely have time to react to my friend's death before the beast takes away his body to feast on it like a midnight snack.

Fear fills my body as I grip my rifle with shaking hands. Soon, a little girl screams as she, too, dies, thanks to my lack of courage. I wish I didn't have a job like this in times like these. I didn't sign up to fight apocalyptic monsters. Yet, more innocent people die under my watch as I simply cry in fear under some rubble. How pathetic.

I can't stand their screams anymore. I can't stand the massacre happening while I hide like a coward. I must buy as much time as I can so that fewer civilians die! "Ngaaaahhhggg! DIE!" With a newfound conviction, I peek outside my hiding spot to spray the monster with bullets until my short-lived rage is stopped by it.

I lasted less than five seconds, during which I almost finished dumping a full mag on the monster who impaled my chest with one of its pointy tentacles. An expected blood cough comes out of my mouth as I struggle for air. With probably two pierced lungs, I won't last much longer. The lights are slowly going out.

Time seemed to slow down at that moment as I looked at my impaled chest with a massive hole in it. I could feel the other end of the tentacle out of my back as I died. This was it; I would die in a few minutes if not seconds. Who will look after my child? They will grow up without their mother. I'm sorry I had to do it. Forgive me, Nohiro. I did this to protect you.

Tears of regret build in my eyes as I look at the monster about to pull me back at its mouth to make me its next light snack. An intense fear fills me even more as I realize my fate is to become monster poop. One last warm feeling between my legs is all I feel until a sudden boom makes the monster throw me away.

An explosion the size of a small bomb suddenly stops the monster in its tracks. Good, the military arrived. Another explosion soon lands on the creature, and it shrieks in pain as more rounds quickly fall on it. The infantry tankers have zero mercy on the monster as it tries to escape underground.

At a distance, I could see the military tanks shooting heavy rounds at the monster as planes came close to it to drop heavy bombs on it. I struggled to stay awake, hoping to make it out of this alive, but my time was about to run out, and I could feel it close. Something was calling for me as it pulled on my soul. It was my time to go.

I look at the blue sky one last time as the military kills the monster. I only wish my sacrifice would not be in vain, and more importantly, I want to go to heaven for my sacrifice. I hope whatever god governs heaven lets me in for my trouble. I'm sorry for my sins, I thought before I passed out. The lights go out as I breathe one last time as my body passes away due to the heavy bleeding caused by the monster.
