{Highway to hell - AC/DC}
{Roar of gas-powered bikes. 4th of July, 2240}
Today's the 10th anniversary of my sister's death. To think it's been that long after the death of my sister, my friend group reduced until I ended up alone with only my dog companion. My father disowned me, and I have been working alone to try and survive, but I still come to this place every year to pay my respects to her.
I say my father never got over Alice's death, but I haven't either. It's been ten years, and I still have nightmares, albeit not as often as the first year after she died. I feel like I failed even though my therapist told me it was an accident. I can't help but feel guilty.
It was my fault if you think about it hard enough. My sister didn't want to go out and ride that day. She said she felt terrible because of her period cramps, but I failed to pay her enough attention. Do you get where I'm going with this? She would still be here if I hadn't pushed her to accompany us. I'm a terrible person.
And yet, what am I supposed to do now? I'm about to turn 33 in a few days, and I'm still single without friends or a fiance. Have I become a left-behind girl? Am I doomed to be alone? Perhaps, but then what can I do with my life? It's clear my sister will not come back to life, so what now?
I heard of a new upcoming technology being developed by the Boring Company, but I'm not sure their tech is worthwhile. A rare eagle shriek catches my attention as I look up at the blue sky in the middle of the forest on an abandoned road.
The eagle flies majestically in the sky as it scans the ground with its magnificent eyes capable of observing prey from hundreds of yards away. How impressive of mother nature. As I watch the eagle fly by, I suddenly hear a recognizable humming of a machine heading my way.
The sound of a helicopter approaches as I turn my motorcycle back on. I already knew who was flying the aircraft. It was most likely the men sent by my father to eliminate me. My powerful father is why I have been having a tough time despite my high level of intelligence.
I could quickly strike a job at another company and do well as a researcher, but my father keeping me on the move makes things complicated. To make matters worse, his mental state has been on the decline as time passes on. It looks like those "stay young forever" treatments are getting to him, as he knows he is running out of time.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Honestly, I still don't know what my father is capable of, but I'm pretty sure he could defy an entire nation if he so desired. My father controls cargo lines and quick shipment transit. After all, he has the world's economic power with such a monopoly and significant stock ownership.
If you're confused, allow me to elaborate so you understand better. My father owns the Anabel Company, which is in charge of building massive cargo airships; they not only build the ships but also develop and control the docks and employ everyone in the process.
The main reason Anabel Co has a world monopoly is price. The Anabel Company gambled on cargo airships long ago and found ways to make it profitable and safe. But for any other company, developing your own cargo airships is way too costly and risky without the secret technologies of the Anabel airship team.
Many brilliant people worldwide have tried to break into the cargo airship trade. Still, my father crushes its competitors with lower prices and other illegal tactics that go unpunished. The corporation keeps the Senate, the president, and even the judges happy with money.
This world is highly corrupt, no doubt about it. Yet the people don't say anything as their lives are normal and relatively comfortable. One can live comfortably with only a 40-hour job and a modest side hustle once in a while. What makes more sense as to why people never say a thing is because everyone is basically stupid and connected to the matrix.
After decades of attempts, the most stupid side of the population got hooked on the VR dream. Essentially, most basic people are lifeless NPCs. They lack a will of their own, and their IQ is way lower than expected, bottoming at a score of 80.
Then again, why do the world governments allow their citizens to be lifeless and stupid? Because it's easier to sway the masses this way. If everyone is plugged in, you can be monitored and controlled every day at all times, the perfect wet dream for any government.
Only people at the top and the government agents are aware of this strategy that has made over half of the population stupid sheep follow the herd with their VR sets of doom. A true catastrophe, but what can I do to stop it, right? Nothing, I can't do anything about it.
If only people in the past were smart enough to ban VR and AR when they were being developed, just like they did with AI. If only they saw through the lies of their tech overlords. Their evil plan to turn them into stupid, mindless, predictable machines addicted to a reality-destroying device.
I now have to run, but it was nice speaking to you. Whoever may find these notes, I hope you use my records well, as I may die within a few months. And please kill me if they ever brainwash me and turn me into a mindless sheep addicted to AR and VR. I would appreciate it.
