Chapter 23: A brewing conspiracy

{Purple Voyager - ELFL}

[UAC White House conference room]

"Mr. President! Is it true that the UAC military is responsible for the destruction of the meteorite?!" A woman from the WNN asks as I read from my podium screen. Of course, I have read the information beforehand, but details can be easily forgotten.

All I could hear from the press was, "Mr President, this. Mr. President," Sometimes I wish I could simply say, shut up! Let me talk for a minute before you bombard me with questions. Yet, I would rather play it safe for the nation's sake.

"While I cannot disclose the full details yet, I can confidently say that, indeed, one of our most advanced weapons in the army is the one thing responsible for the object's destruction."

"Mr. President, what was that? Our cameras were able to capture a humanoid shape. Are we to assume you have a more powerful power armor than the ones made by the Mazda corporation?" Another reporter asks as I try to generate a non-complaint response.

"No comment." I couldn't come up with anything that wouldn't sound suspicious, so I had to say the good old classic "No comment" remark. Quite a cheap response, but there really were no alternatives if I wanted to keep a high level of secrecy.

Obviously, I know it was A52 who destroyed the meteor, but she did so while breaking the rules of her contract. She wasn't supposed to be up there chilling like she owned her freedom. As far as I'm concerned, she is our intelligence property, and I'm not planning to let her go that easily.

What is she going to do regardless? It's not like she can fight off all mankind. Besides, bullets made with the same material as her body are highly effective. I myself saw the pictures of her almost entirely destroyed core, all to a simple railgun shotgun.

Sure, bullets made with her same materials cost a fortune, and she could try to dodge the shots, but eventually, one will hit her, and then it's game over. Yet A52 is not the most dangerous mystery of today. Far from it, she is tame compared to the inexplicable "monster attacks."

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

It began in India, New Delhi, a couple of days ago when a gigantic monster with red skin appeared and killed thousands upon thousands of people until the army showed up. The casualties racked up to 120 thousand people. It doesn't sound like much, but considering it was a single individual, it's different.

The little fucker basically had the same firepower as a nuclear firearm, and what's worse is that it's beginning to happen worldwide after India, an attack on Tokyo occurred, then in Moscow, followed by Morrocco. Many even speculate that the meteor right above our land is correlated.

"Mr. President, what about the attacks on cities worldwide by so-called "Monsters+?" Do we have any clue as to what the creatures are or want?" Dang it, I couldn't say no comment twice, so I had to be careful with my response.

"We don't know much about their motives, but our top brass has found anomalies with the creatures. For beginners, these creatures do not share even a little bit of their DNA with any living things in the world."

"Mr. President! Are you saying these monsters are aliens?" I thought my answer had been good enough, but what else would explain the creatures not sharing any DNA with anything in the world based on carbon?

"While I cannot confirm nor deny this information, I will say that we are looking into it. More information will be released when our scientists finish their autopsies. No more questions for today. Have a good night."

As I descend the podium stage, I see Dr. Walsh waiting for me, eager to tell me something. Seeing him excited or happy was never good news, as he usually only looked happy when something he didn't comprehend came up. Still, he is pretty reputable and rivals guys like Dr. Gero in intelligence. I would go as far as to say he might be slightly smarter.

"What is up, Walsh? You look uncanny." I said as a compliment.

"It's about that android 52. I have all of the evidence to get them the death penalty. All the monsters have this strange pattern of attack that leads me to believe they're here to destroy her." Wow, calm yourself, man. I don't think getting rid of her like that is wise.

"You haven't reconsidered your stance on this? You're not willing to give her a chance?"

"I already did. She broke trust again. Only a fool would believe whatever comes from her mouth; she is an innate liar. You cannot trust them." Well, Walsh wasn't technically wrong. I mean, she has broken protocols many times, but isn't that what makes them unique?

If only there was a way to inject discipline into her, she would be the perfect soldier. A52 is strong, fast, quick-thinking, and fearless. What else could you want on a machine? She can also discern between civilians and enemies with ease.

"Have it your way; her trial is coming up this week on a Wednesday. Just make sure you don't make yourself look bad."

"Oh, trust me. A52 is done for with the evidence I got from Dr. Toshiba and Dr. Stevenson's testimony too."

+ Timeline monster attacks begin.
