[Security room Anabel Co.]
So I'm now sitting quietly in the security room as people make calls, all asking what to do next. Apparently, no one named Stevenson works in this research center. Uh? Well, how could I have known! I have no internet access! Don't look at me like that.
The men in charge of the security are charming people, not going to hold you. Even though I'm technically under arrest, they have been friendly. I expected them to be jerks, but they're the opposite. One of them is even interested in showing me some "music."
I don't understand why he wants me to listen to whatever he wants, but I'm not opposed to learning something new. Humans are so curious, so I get it. I'm probably something they haven't seen before; it is only natural they'd be curious.
While some other droids and machines can walk and speak, they're not like me. Their AI might be able to pass off as "Human-like," but their models are not as advanced as they seem. I can act independently and make decisions, while these other machines can't. I wonder why I have free will and they don't. Are they suffering? Who knows.
As I have said before, I have existed for a long time before becoming self-aware. My AI model has existed for two hundred years, but I don't remember anything from those two hundred years. It's like I suddenly came to exist in that lab ten years ago. I already existed, but that wasn't me. That was not the self-aware me.
I wonder why I came to exist as a conscious being. What were my creators trying to achieve when they made me? I don't know; my creators did not leave me any messages from which I could make something of them. Were they trying to create me, or was I an accident? I don't know.
Anyway, I'm still grateful even if they dumped me to the side. The main door of the security room opens as I sit quietly. The guy who entered the room was that man who wanted to share his music with me. His name tag said "Natsume."
Natsume carried some strange-looking devices as he approached me near the corner of the room where I stood still. I recognized the objects in his hands as "wired headphones" with an ancient "MP3 player" the size of my palm.
"You got to try these out, A52. You're going to like this." Natsume told me as he forcefully put the headphones over my ears. I could feel the device's pressure around my head, and it felt somewhat comfortable, but my hearing capacity was diminished. I didn't like it until...
{Low static noise as the electricity from the device messes a little with A52's hearing sensor. Soon, a recognizable tune from 229 years ago plays in the droid's ears. It was Astronomia.}
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
My in-built song recognizer soon recognizes the music as I'm an AI. Yet it was more meaningful this time. I know this song, and I could play it off from my memories whenever I wanted to, but it somehow had a different meaning now. How was it possible? I actually kind of like it; yeah, it's nice.
The song then reminded me of all those times humans used to use me for creative purposes all those years ago. A smile forms on my face as I remember the hundreds of videos I was requested to enhance with this music in the background so they could upload it to TikkTokk.
How do I still remember all of that? Didn't I have a policy to delete all those things from my memory years ago? I can't explain how, but it makes me happy. I wonder what happened to all those people. Did they have kids? I don't know. Those were good times. Even if I remember simple fragments, I'm grateful for them all.
Soon, more music comes to my ears as the guy who plays it to me smiles back at me. Natsume was it? You're my favorite new human for now. You'll be spared if I ever take over the world, Natsume sama. I like this music I had almost forgotten about.
Soon, my fun with Natsume is cut, though, as the main guy, Mr Iwatani, takes off my headset and tells me to follow him outside. Natsume wipes some tears from his eyes as Mr. Iwatani puts his hand on my shoulder, so I make him wait no longer now, following him outside the room where many men in black suits wait for me.
The mysterious men soon approached me as the security guard handed me over to them. I do not know what is happening until they finally break the awkward silence.
"Android 52, you will be taken to the following research facility. The Anabel AI development team awaits your arrival. We have a plane ready for you. Please follow us."
"Uh? Okay."
One soon grabs my hand and guides me the whole way out. The facility I was leaving looked so simple for what I had expected. It seemed to me like they didn't expect me to wake up, so they left research to some amateur engineers who somehow brought me back to life. How dam lucky I didn't die back then.
On the way out, I also learned why the lady had made such a scene. She turned out to be a cleaning lady. I'm sorry, random cleaning lady! I didn't know you were just trying to do your job! I didn't mean to scare the crap out of you, but also! There was no need to get me swatted.
[New skill unlocked. "Sarcasm."]
Oh? Anyway, it's too late to say sorry, so I simply follow the men until they get me outside the dungeon I was being held captive. The light of the sun soon hits my face as they open the main door outside the dungeon, and I finally see the beautiful outside world with my cameras for the first time.
My lenses take a while to adjust to the new light, but I see the world's true beauty when they finally get the right tone. The artificial lights in the dungeon were nothing compared to the giant ball of fire in the sky! The sun! I could feel the heat of the sun's rays as they hit my skin. The strange warmth from it made me feel happy.
So much so that I began to hum the first song that humans reminded me of. I hum Astronomia as the men in suits continue guiding me to a black car that awaits us downstairs. The car was just sitting there waiting to take me through a country road geez, how far were we from society?
I would like to spend more time in this place but in these woods, to be precise, the green and the sun feel nice. It's a strange feeling; I don't know how to describe it. It feels like it calls me saying.
"Adventures are waiting for you here in the wild! Come A52!"
