The Lee Family

[Lee Jeong-Hun's POV]

Returning back home. I bought some fried chicken for my family to have dinner with. Things hasn't been the same since my father died in an accident. It has always just been me and family. We live in Seoul, where currently I am or used to be Hunting for Jobs. My Mom working a 14 hour shift in a Korean Barbecue Shop just to meet the monthly dateline while my sister does her best, Studying so that she can go to a good university. For me, I leeched off my mother after graduating from University. As the Job Interview gets harsher and harsher, I gave up and stayed at home to waste time.

Well things ended changing in 3 years time. Everything I know would be gone, changing me to who I am today.

"Mom, Jeong-Hui. Food's here." I yelled, placing dinner on the table.

My Mom appeared out from her room, widening her eyes as the amount off food on the table surprised her.

"What's the occasion son? Do we have the money to afford this?"

Reassuring my worried mother, I replied "No worries Mom, I got paid recently so it's good to enjoy every once in a while."

Jeong-Hui came out from her room studying, surprised to see all the food as well. She got extremely excited when she saw her favourite Sweet and Spicy Chicken as well as her Mash Potato there. Without warning, she dashed in and grabbed a plate.

"Oppa since when are you so generous? I'm digging in first." Stuffing the chicken in her mouth, while my mother scolds her for not having manners.

"SZAnk Kyou OBpa." Jeong-Hui replied which chicken stuffed in her mouth.

"Lee Jeong-Hui! What did I say about manners!" Mom scolded my little sister, pulling her ears.

Seeing a sight like this, really made me happy. Though the time might short, I will protect my family no matter what.

Taking my bank account note out, I passes it to my mother saying:

"Mom, let's have you stop working. You have not had a break since Dad passed…"

My Mom stared at the bank note book in curiosity and smilling vaguely, she replied while pick the bank book.

"Aigo, My Jeong-Hun is growing up, It's ok son, things have been hard for us, I don't need your __"

From there, my mother froze up, her eyes lit up like a jackpot machine, instead of showing 777, it continuously read 000000000.

"Hhhhow manyyy zeroes are there…."

She dropped the bank book on the floor while still trying to contemplate what happened.

Jeong-Hui stared at my mom expression in curiosity and was naturally curious what could be in the bank book that was so shocking that my mom froze up like that.

She picked up the bank book and reads it following Mom as well. Except this time, she sat down on the chair looking like a defeated boxing champion.

"Oppa…Did you sell your soul to the devil or something."

I stared at her and flick her forehead.

"What are you, stupid?"

But it was hard to really explain how I got this large sum of money. Thinking on the spot, I went with:

"I invested a lot couple of years ago without telling you, I got my returns back very high, so I thought to give this to Mom for all the work she has done for us for her to retire. There will be more where that comes from." I smiled while saying that.

"Ok Son. As long as you're not doing anything dangerous. Your Mom trust you." My Mom replied with her eyes tearing up.

I stare with a pause before replying yes. I cant really call it safe with the fact that I have to fight monsters and people to get the treasure as well as to sell them up online.

"How's your studies Jeong-Hui." I asked checking on my sister's studies.

"Its alright? But it is getting harder to maintain the top 10 in school."

Jeong-Hui wanted to be a film art student previously after gaining an interest in it. However because of my father passing away so suddenly, she shifts her focus on money where she can earn the most so that our family would live comfortably.

She decided she wanted to be a doctor instead.

I promised myself that I would support her all the way. Only for myself to give up in myself and everything else. Until now.

"Top 10? But you were so dumb last time though."

"Wha_ Why you!"

I switched to a guarded position while my sister started practicing fight move combo on my unguarded area.

With the dinner done. I told my family that I was going to the convenient store to get something. My sister out of nowhere insisted that she wanted to come. With no choice, I sighed and prompted her to come.

While walking she starts talking.

"Oppa. I know you have been doing dangerous things for our sake." I turn my head fast, staring at Jeong-Hui.

Her complexion on her face was serious. She meant what she said.

"There are times I have seen you covered in Cuts and bruises when you were home. There were even bloodstain in your clothes…"

"Does Mom know?"

"I didn't say anything to her yet."

"I see. For your information, I am not doing anything illegal."

"I know. You're kind hearted. But if you didn't realise Oppa, you've changed."

"Does it scare you?"

She turned her head and looked at me with determined eyes. "No because I know you will always protect us."

My eyes widened as I got surprised by her answer and smile.

"You know me too well." I replied slowing reaching my hand out, petting Jeong-Hui's head.

"Of course, we have been together for so long. By the way now that we're rich, I want that tub of ice cream."

"You're gonna be fat, you know"

"Shut up."

And with that I end my day, ingraining it in my heart that I will always protect them. No matter the cost. And I will kill anyone who harms them in any way.
