Yggdrasil, the cosmic world tree, is supported by three roots that led to various other realms in Norse Mythology. One of the roots is connected to Asgard, and beneath it lies the Well of Urd.

In the Well of Urd, we dwelled three powerful beings with the ability to weave all living thing's destinies. The Norns.

Norns, the 3 deities responsible for shaping the nature and course of human destinies, were deities from Norse mythology.

They are not part of the Aesir Gods, which most Norse mythology was well-known for, but they played a huge role in keeping everybody's fate in check.

Due to the world tree's health being in constant danger due to creatures gnawing at the roots of the tree and animals eating other parts like the leaves, the tree began to rot. Someone was needed to counteract the damage inflicted by these creatures to heal the tree. The Norns were then selected for that role.

As the stewards of the world tree, the 3 deities' main role was to ultimately tend to Yggdrasill's roots, using water from the well and the soil around the tree, ultimately nourishing the tree. Thus keeping the universe in existence.

Though there are many accounts that believed that they were descendants of the giants, some believed that they were chosen to be Norn from creatures such as dwarves or even elves. The truth that all 3 of them being a Giant's descendants ended up being the truth.

With the sight to see everything from the past to the present to the future, the Norns would design the fate of a person by weaving a piece of cloth and carving a rune at the trunk of Yggdrasil, indicting the fate of every living being born.

The action of the 3 deities can be seen as malevolent or benevolent depending on how one views it. After all, some of the most tragic events and some of the greatest miracles are created and controlled by them.

Despite having the power to twine the fates of mere mortals and even a god. The 3 deities have remained neutral for t the mi, not taking any sides to maintain the balance of the world

Depicted as the sisters of fates, the names of the sisters are all related to time.

Urd, being the oldest with her name deriving from the past tenses of the Old Nordic word: Verda ("that which became").

Verdandi, being the middle sibling, has her name deriving from the present tenses of the Old Nordic word: Verda ("that which is happening")

Skuld, the youngest sibling, has her name derived from the Old Nordic word: Skulu ("need to be")

In a way, their names are the direct pronunciation of time itself.

Urd being the past.

Verdandi, being present.

And Skuld, being the future.

In a way, these 3 sisters are overseers of time, able to witness past events and govern the future.

Living in the Well of Urd, located at the very base of Yggdrasill. There was something stirring in the mortal world that caught the attention of Verdandi, the present.

[Verdandi's POV]

Something is wrong.

The current event of the world is happening too fast and producing a drastic change. I can't see what is happening from these 2 people.

There are some changes that were altered to have a different result, but they are not supposed to have such a significant influence in the future.

There are 2 anomalies that I have detected so far:

1. Lee Jeong-Hun

2. The Masked Awakener

Now, for how the events have been entirely different from what we envisioned:

Firstly, the Imoogi.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

A monster of the legends that is powerful and deadly venom strong enough to kill a person with a single drop. The monster born in the dungeon should be cleared by humans to gather new power and strength. Unbeknownst to us, the snake managed to lay an egg before being engaged by the humans. Who would have thought it would pass her only children to the enemies that slayed her? Furthermore, it was successfully hatched even though the chance of hatching is extremely low.

A monster as a pet? Impossible!

The only one who can do that has not arrived yet.

Next, the attack of the nine-tails fox.

It was necessary for us to release her for the sake of humans to get stronger, but for it to be defeated by a mere mortal at such an early stage? Preposterous!!

There was no issue with how a human could locate the beast in such a short span of time, but the fact that the same human who hatched Imoogi's egg was the one to defeat the nine-tailed fox, what is happening?

There is also the fact that Lee Jeong-Hun is using a different power obtained somewhere else that bothers me. But the most troublesome issue I have is the mask that the unknown awakener is wearing.

Whenever I tried to take a closer look at who the masked awakener was, a pair of eyes appeared out of nowhere, staring right at my soul, as if warning me not to pry into its business.

No one dared to treat me this way...so, what the hell even is that mask!!!

And now, another issue occurred. The demon Jack-Ó-Lantern has crossed over to Midgard, only for him to disappear again suddenly. He's not supposed to be here yet. According to Skuld, there should be at least 13 years left before he arrives in Midgaard.

"Verdandi!!!! Something is wrong!! One of the demons disappears in the future?!?"

Someone across the room shouted at the top of her lungs in panic. Judging by her voice, it seems like Skuld noticed the anomaly as well.

"Jack-Ó-Lantern is in Midgard? He was supposed to be sealed up in hell. How did he escape?"

Urd emerged from the room, sharing the same thought. It seems something has interrupted the Norns' overseeing ability.

Looking at the runes that were tied to 2 different strings, 2 runes were cracked while the rest of the runes shined brightly. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Even the fate of the gods was shown clearly to us, so what about these two mortals?

For the runes to be cracked, it means their fates are not tied to Yggdrasill's roots. Are they not part of this world?

It was really peculiar, but what's more dangerous is that we have no idea how the future is going to turn out now.

Urd took a step forward where the two runes were, to have a closer inspection. Every tread of destiny is attached to a rune that is carved on the trunk of the world tree.

The treads themselves are weaved carefully, and every one of them glows brightly, indicating how a living thing's life is active.

Those who died would have their tread and runes stopped glowing entirely, but for the two anomalies, their treads were still shining brightly, yet the runes were cracked in half... As if rejecting destiny itself.

"What the hell is happening in the mortal world?" Urd asked curiously as she continued examining the two broken runes when suddenly a faint tremor of electricity coursed through my mind. It was another vision of the current event. This time, the subject of my vision is Lee Jeong-Hun.

Lying in the centre of the room, a figure arose from the ground in a panic state as the person gasped desperately for air.

Looking around, the entire room was a demolished mess as the person looked around the room, investigating what was happening. The previous injury he sustained fighting the monster was healed while the monster itself was gone.

"Did...I managed to survive?" Lee Jeong-Hun asked in confusion as he continued lying on the ground in disbelief when a voice spoke back to him.

[No thanks to me.]

Surprised by the mysterious voice, Jeong-Hun flinched while frantically looking for the person who spoke to him.

[You can't find me this way.]

The voice spoke once again, seemingly getting delighted as Jeong-Hun panics again.

"Just where are yo___?" As Jeong-Hun tries to wipe the sweat off his head, his arm is rubbing against something rough and hollow.

Thuck!

It wasn't his face he was touching but something else.

"What the___"

He frantically grabbed his face with his hands to catch a feel of the object that was latched on to his face.

"Don't tell me this is..."

Jeong-Hun pulled his inventory out to grab the mirror he stored in as an emergency.

There, he evoked a light spell, brightening up the entire room, and it was there he finally took a closer look at what he was wearing.

A Mask.

It's a similar looking mask that the unknown awakener was wearing. However, the one he was wearing had the iconic Jack-Ó-Lantern pumpkin carved and painted on it.

[I look pretty good if I do say so myself.]

"Jack-Ó-Lantern?"

[The one and only! And please, call me Jack.]

"What the hell is going on?"

Jeong-Hun spoke with extreme confusion, only for him to notice the notification icon in his system blinking.

Choosing to open the icon, that's where all his confusion was answered.

[Legendary feat achieved.]

- Taming a Demon.

- Successfully resurrected from the dead.

Jeong-Hun, staring at the screen speechless, had his entire mind blank. With him still shaken by the sudden development of various events, he proceeded to press the [Status] button.
