Chapter 36: Phantom Class

Chapter 36: Phantom Class

"Yes?"

"It is time for the ball. Are you going?"

Anon thought about it. It couldn't really be a mistake to meet one of the princes, right? Arah was planning on attending alone. But he was allowed to bring a single guard.

He felt that Anon was the strongest person he had ever met. He thought about the legend of the fog forest and the fact that they safely 'escaped' it!

There had been no casualties at all!

"Sure." Anon agreed to go.

Anon was a bit weird. He escaped a dimensional trap and one of his first thoughts after materializing was to bury himself underground! His thinking was beyond the scope of an ordinary person.

Anon was enjoying the antics of having other people around him. He had spent a LOT of time alone with nothing but his thoughts.

Now. He was enjoying the perks of civilization despite not needing them at all.

Soon. They arrived at the banquet. There was a long line to get in. Those who brought mediocre gifts were sent away. Sometimes even if they lost the gifts!

Soon it was Arah's turn.

"I present thee a potentia stone!"

Those behind him exclaimed in shock.

"A potentia stone!? Which young master is that!"

The butler nodded in satisfaction and opened up the box revealing the rainbow colored stone.

"You may enter!"

Soon Anon and Arah went through a few hallways before arriving at the banquet. Everyone was dressed fancily and there were people performing music.

Some were dancing. Others eating. Some socializing.

Anon stood out even in this group due to his clothes. They were completely black. But the quality of the material... it was as if it came from another world!

Some women came up to Anon asking if he would like to dance with them. He turned them down. He was tempted to show off. But today wasn't about him and he didn't want to steal the show.

In combination with his training from Ayil and his 100% control over his body. Then if he sorted and went through the memories of the soul fragments.

He could become a dancing legend! But he found this a bit ridiculous.

Soon a squire announced the arrival of the prince.

"We welcome Aldway Regius!"

Everyone clapped as Aldway appeared.

"Thank you! Thank you!"

"I have seen all the lovely gifts you have brought me."

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

"Please enjoy yourselves..."

Soon the prince walked up to Arah.

"I especially like your gift. But I am torn whether to use it. My father has forbidden his descendents from using such a means. But he specifically told me it didn't matter..."

"He thinks I won't amount to anything..."

Aldway was attracted to Anon's blindfold.

"Why is he wearing a blindfold?"

Arah sighed and told him that he was blind.

"A blind guard? This is the first I've seen."

He waved his hands in front of Anon. Anon stretched out his hand for a handshake. This surprised everyone! Shaking hands with a prince? Blasphemy!

Aldway grabbed on of his fingers and waved it up and down.

"..."

"I have heard..." Aldway leaned into Arah's ears and whispered.

"That you have a potentia born among your guards?"

"You are correct!" Arah pointed at Anon.

Aldway's eyes widened! Why could the son of a merchant family afford such a guard that he as royalty lacked! Among his guards. The strongest was just a grandmaster knight. None of them were potentia born!

He had quite the good impression of Arah. Using that stone, even if not used on himself. It could allow his guards to potentially awaken a class.

While potentia stones were considered waste to the truly strong. The gods could still reject you. Meaning even using the stone wouldn't give you a class!

But this was quite rare and unlucky. It was usually a gurantee of getting a wizard, druid, bard, warlock, cleric, artificer, fighter, paladin, necromancer, or sorcerer class.

Whether or not you could upgrade your class to something of a higher quality. It was really luck dependent and almost a legend within itself.

Aldway then asked something a bit crazy.

"Can you sell me your potentia born guard?"

"..." Arah frowned.

"It is just a waste of their talent to be following a mere merchant."

"I will one day take on the throne. I will reward you quite handsomely for him!"

Arah's eyebrows were twitching.

"He is a free man. Not a slave. I can't sell him to you. I had wanted to rope him into my family and have him meet my father. But now it looks like he will get snatched up by you..."

Aldway smiled.

"So I take that as a yes? You will sell him to me?"

Anon started to laugh.

"Are you worthy?"

The prince started to frown.

"What do you mean?"

Anon pointed his finger up to the sky.

"I stand at the pinnacle of all!"

A silver and black aura started to rise over his feet and covering his entire body. His blindfold vanished and his eyes were closed. The food at the banquet and the tables started to shake.

Debris started to float up in the air.

Anon opened his eyes and they were a glowing white!

He looked at the prince.

But then something happened that surprised everyone! Anon's hair turned half white and he started to float. The prince then was covered in a similar film.

"You!? What have you done!" The guards surrounded Anon.

But the prince was smiling in ecstasy!

He bowed towards Anon.

"Thank you lord for awakening me!"

Anon then felt in his sea of consciousness. There was a brand. Anon cancelled his transformation and his blindfold appeared on himself again. He slowly fell to the ground as everything returned to normal.

But the prince had awakened a unique class!

"Hurry! Bring me the potentia stone! I must know what class I have unlocked!"

Soon the guards were running crazily as they brought the potentia stone. One of them used it on Aldway.

"Phantom!"

"He awakened a unique class!"

Anon was confused. From what he had heard. Only the gods, both minor and major. Had the power to give classes. Anon then explored the brand in his mind and a torrent of information flooded his consciousness.

He saw the entire life of the prince up til this point.

"Interesting..."

"So this is the mechanism that makes this world unique!"

In order to become a 'god' you must die a legendary death. Thanks to Anon's 'anima revive' and 'anima leap'. He had died countless times. What more legendary death is there then dying in a gateway between worlds? The other requirement was faith.

Normally. A 'god' is just a legend.

But Anon was a living legend! Despite still being alive. The world gave him the same respect as a god!

The prince walked through the walls and returned. They then started to fly.

"I'm a grade 3 phantom!"

Everyone cheered! Aldway was just the offspring of the king and one of his mistresses. He was never expected to actually become a natural born potentia.

Even the head of the Vasallus family expected he would need to use the stone!

But who could've thought that the guard of Arah had the ability to give other people classes?

Anon could feel the power of faith pouring in from Aldway.

"Things are getting interesting!"
