Chapter 20: Mastery

Chapter 20: Mastery

"Try to cut this paper without moving..."

So began Anon's training. He focused on the energy circulating in his body and couldn't help but wonder. Where did this energy come from? He didn't eat food. While he did have 'concentration'. He could clearly feel that the two weren't connected. This made him think that the 'hidden potential' was awakened from a combination of him gaining the potential of the timekeeper and it being bound to his body.

This was then awakened by Ayil! This was his current thoughts. He stood in place with his blindfold on and his eyes closed. He covered his skin in a layer of animaxiom. He slowly extended it from his body. It felt like having controllable hairs. He could feel the energy touching the paper.

He tried his best to cut the paper. But it was simply pushed. An hour passed and Ayil had stopped holding it in place. Anon was able to keep the paper floating through sheer manipulation alone. But he wasn't close at all to cutting it without moving. Eight hours passed and Anon wasn't making much progress. He was a bit surprised. His true vision boosted his comprehension. But his manipulator seemed to be an entirely separate thing. It was much harder to master.

Ayil told him to take a break and walk with her. She soon went to a tent where Clytia the 'snake' was sleeping. Anon was introduced to snake and found that she was a bit introverted. She hardly spoke at all.

"I need to make a training program for you. She will help you develop your muscles."

Anon nodded and Snake took them to the ring where there were nets and mats around. She asked him to show her what he could do. Anon didn't bother to show his 'magic'. He climbed a rope ladder and jumped around in the air. It looked a bit awkward. There was no majesty of a professional.

Thanks to his 99% control rate. Despite his muscles being quite weak. He was able to use their full potential and support his weight on the ropes.

"Have you really done no training?" Snake was slightly surprised by his performance. It was indeed unskilled and didn't look great. But the fact that he was still able to support himself without a foundation in the arts. It showed that he could have some latent talent.

Snake taught Anon carefully for two hours and then told him they would continue tomorrow. Anon was given his own tent, but he didn't need to sleep.

He spent a few hours familiarizing himself with 'forward rolling' and 'backward rolling'. He fist squatted. Extended his legs. Crunched them. Lay on his back. Back to his feet. Repeat.

He did this for twelve hours. At first it wasn't smooth. But after doing it hundreds of times. He looked like a pro. Unlike with his anima system. True vision itself seemed to help him.

Soon Snake found him. She demonstrated 'bridging'. She also showed him how to do a handstand. Anon was capable of doing the latter but not the former.

"Keep your fingers spread out!"

"Tighten your abs!"

"Straighten your legs..."

Snake taught Anon everything she knew. At first she was careful. It would take months for someone to slowly ease themselves into these feats of flexibility and strength. But she noticed that Anon didn't seem to get injured as easily as others. He wasn't inherently flexible. But he learned things after only seeing them once.

She felt there was some sort of disconnect between his mind and body.

She wanted to help him resolve this disconnect.

A few months went by...

Anon's vacation was over. But he didn't plan on going back to be a salesman. He much preferred his lifestyle at the circus. His physique had completely transformed. The amount of progress had shocked both Ayil and Snake. His physique was nearly perfect.

He could easily support his entire body by balancing on one hand.

He effortlessly did back-flips and somersaults. He could even balance himself on a rope and walk with steady steps. He could use his legs to support himself alone above the nets!

Anon had indeed trained himself alone in the past for weeks to increase the control rate of his body. But that was without the help of a professional.

He noticed the difference between having a teacher and self-learning right away.

He had made incredible progress. In the past, he had felt that his body couldn't keep up with his thoughts and that his body was weak. But now he felt strength all throughout his body!

During these months he had finally managed to cut a piece of paper without touching it! He had even managed to break the wooden plank as well. All without even coming into contact with them.

He could extend animaxiom about a meter from his body now. He had even tried to use it to make himself fly. But there simply wasn't enough leverage. It was a feat that required more precise control.

Anon also had his own act now where he did some 'magic tricks'. Some of these had him dodging getting hit by a bats. He also showed off his acrobatics.

Anon felt the bottleneck of his control rate. The difference between 99% and 100%. He felt as if there was just a thin layer over it. With the slightest gust of wind. He could break it!

Unfortunately, the carnival was closing down. They were about to go to another town. Ayil asked if Anon wanted to come with them.

Anon unfortunately declined.

"It is time to unlock my axiom state!"

Anon had traveled to one of the most populated cities in the eagle country. He snuck past security and climbed the stairs for quite awhile to reach the top.

This was one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Anon looked down at the ground. Everything appeared so small.

"I either die a mediocre waste. Or I ascend to the pinnacle..."

Anon jumped.
