Chapter 40

"She seems to take her time" exclaimed Samuel to Faesol as they both had eaten already and were waiting for Anya to leave the bathroom.

Samuel had an idea, he asked Faesol to join him and the bored feline accepted out of sheer curiosity. They left the room and went outside, they soon arrived at the local training grounds near the Pokémon Center.

Sitting down on a spectator bench with Faesol next to him had caught the attention of few eager trainers. Samuel chuckled the attention he was garnering, it all started with a single trainer openly gawking at him before regaining his composure. Occasionally the trainer would take a peek at Samuel, it didn't take long for his friends to take note of his strange behavior and ask him what was wrong. He practically screamed that it was the former champion casually sitting at the bench and observing the nearby matches, alerting everyone nearby that Samuel was there.

Somehow it led to Samuel giving out a small lecture where he was sharing some important advice for the trainers during their journey, surprisingly none of them tried to challenge Samuel to a Pokémon battle and instead some gave pointed looks at Faesol as if trying to gauge how strong she was.

The lecture went on as Samuel told the trainers the importance of knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each different type along with asking them to name a single Pokémon of that type. Unsurprisingly the local trainers only knew about the local Pokémon that were found nearby, only some of them knew any Pokémon from over the silver mountains and some knew about famous Pokémon from tournaments and competitions.

Time had passed unnoticed and only by the not so gentle nudge from the hungry Espeon managed to alert him to the passage of time.

Soon, both of them were back at the Pokémon Center lobby and the nurse who was at the counter notified that the odd Pokémon he had with him has been helping around the Center and was quite pleased with how it handled itself. Only then did Samuel remember about leaving Anya alone for a quite a long time. Sheepishly he asked the nurse more details about what Anya had been doing.

The nurse showered Samuel with praise on how well behaved the Pokémon is and how it shows the amount of intelligence she has to have, she was even comparing Anya to their best trained Chansey. 'If only she knew what I knew' thought Samuel amused at the nurse's expense.

The conversation lulled for a moment as a Chansey wearing a nurse hat came through the backdoor along with Anya, who was momentarily surprised that Samuel and Faesol were waiting for her. It took a moment until Anya opened her mouth and chirped something, which Samuel could only interpret as annoyance.

"[Where have you guys been? It has been hours]" Anya asked Faesol

"[You took too long in the bathroom and we were getting bored, so we decided to go for a walk]"

"[For hours?]" Anya repeated the last part pointedly

"[We, kinda might have lost our sense of time. Sorry]" Faesol slumped a bit

"[It's not your fault and besides, I was just worried. I wish Samuel could have at least written a note, he should know I can read.]" Anya consoled the downcast feline, while giving a glare at Samuel, who was clueless the whole conversation.

Back at the room, Faesol and Anya were exchanging their daily happenings and Samuel was on an errand to get food, Anya was surprised about Samuel giving a 'boring' lecture about types to a small group of trainers at the nearby battling field and Anya told Faesol about how she had been helping the local Chansey at the Center's backrooms.

How she found out that she had an odd compulsion to care for distressed Pokémon along with an almost magical innate understanding of their needs, like who were to be fed, who were too cold or too hot.

The nature of the compulsion could be traced to the species of Leavanny itself as it seems to be deeply rooted in their nature. This caused a small amount of distress in Anya, as a Human she never have had such a forceful compulsion before, sure she had craved coffee every morning and every day without had been worse, but this was totally different as her body had automatically started doing things.

She just hoped that, she could somehow train to resist this compulsion.

The subject then changed to how Anya had been asked to help around, because of her sharp cutters, the Chansey in question asked her to Cut through a pile of paper. How she was then made to distribute them next to each bed where a sick Pokémon were staying at. Soon the nurse came around and wrote something on the paper that Anya couldn't understand, she did however recognize them as Kantonese characters.

When, Anya arrived to the infant care section of the Center did her compulsion start acting up and before she knew she was darting back and forth around the room attending to each and every baby in need. Initially the Chansey was alarmed by Anya's sudden change in behavior, but soon calmed when it noticed what Anya was doing. The Chansey even called for a nurse who hurriedly stumbled into the room, only to find the unnervingly sharp cutters carefully caressing a small Meowth.

The nurse had admonished Chansey for using the emergency button instead of the normal nurse call button. The nurse understood why Chansey had called her as soon as possible, as the dangerous cutters expertly moving around the room, attending multiple infants sailing through the air in high speed. The results were showing itself as soon the whole room was impacted with a uncanny peacefulness and quiet.

The room felt dead silent as all of the cribs had fallen silent, no rattling of toys, no cries of distress, just silence filling the room.

Anya, soon out of her compulsion induced trance, jittered a moment before carefully stepping out of the room. Her whole body felt weak as she got back the control of her body, she soon lost balance and fell down. Something about the intensity of her body movement, with micro-adjustments to her limbs had caused an enormous amount of strain on her muscles.

Soon enough Chansey and the nurse were upon her and carefully lift her onto a nearby chair.

Chansey and Anya had a small chat where Chansey was so impressed with her that she tried to get Anya to sign up to a nursing school.

They continued talking for a while, when another Chansey came to tell Anya that Professor Oak was back.
