Chapter 24

Last of the canvas papers had been used and Anya hadn't really talked with Samuel for a few days, him leaving before Anya woke up, coming back late extremely tired and going to sleep almost as soon as he was done showering.

This continued for almost two weeks, during those days Anya had either stayed in her room producing cloth or making more silk outside in the backyard.

A normal silkworm on earth produces around 1 kilometer of silk in 72 hours and is around 7 to 8 cm long and the strongest silk being around 1mm in thickness. Anya easily being over fifteen times longer than a normal silkworm on earth also means that her silk should be over 15mm in thickness and she can produce 1km of silk in less than 5 hours, in theory.**

Wasting the uneventful days away Anya had time to experiment with her own silk and the dyes, she had managed to make another plushie. This time it being a fully dyed Eevee with a light brown fur with light gray mane and the tip of its tail. The plushie not being filled with anything lied flat on her bed, she did not know what she could fill it with. She had tried filling it with balls of silk, but it lacked the floatiness of real stuffing and was ruled out as a potential material for plush fillings.

Anya has been feeling down these past days, the longer it went the slower she worked. After finishing the plushie she had just stared outside listlessly.

On the eleventh day Samuel came home earlier than expected carrying a large-ish cardboard box with him.

"Hey! Anya, I'm back!" Samuel shouted loudly when he opened the door, expecting her to come downstairs. A chirp was heard nearby. Anya, who greeted him, was sitting by the window in a chair that had been dragged from the kitchen.

"Yeah, sorry for not being here for a while, the life of a trainer am I right?" Anya tilted her head to emphasize she did not know what he meant.

"Oh, right, well... After my entitlement, I had to attend few events, interviews and such." He said "And this" he shook the box in his hand and put it on the table. "Wasn't that easy to make, trying to explain the manufacturer that the keys need to be slightly modified symbols from the original Unown script"

He opened the package and took out a barebones typewriter, there weren't any fancy covers and the sharp edges were barely smoothed. He carefully placed the typewriter on the table and let Anya to look at it while he took off his backpack and jacket.

She curiously looked at the keyboard and noticed that the keys were already in QWERTY layout, 'huh, didn't think QWERTY was an interdimensional thing' she thought obviously not knowing that the QWERTY layout was made specifically for typewriters to avoid the jamming of the keys.

'Not like I could use the 10-finger typing' she mused. She was still eager to actually write something without it being a pain.

Samuel had taken out a stack of white paper from his backpack and inserted the first one at the typewriter. He then pressed every key on it and with a clear ding the line changed. "Seems like everything works right now" Samuel said and made some space

Anya chirped happily and began to type something. Her typing wasn't fast as she had to adjust her cutters every now and then.

'THANK YOU ASAMUEL FOR GETTING ME THIS TYPEQWRIRTER'

Samuel chuckled "No worries, I promised I would get you one" The clacking starting once again. 'I CAN TRY TO ANSWER 1 QUESTION YOU HAVE' Before Samuel could answer the clacking continued ending with another ding.

'AS A WAY OF THANKS, I UNDERSTAND, IT MUST NOT HAVE BEEN EASY DOING THIS TO ME'

Samuel was deep in thought he wasn't sure what he could ask of her. "Let me think for a while, I'll give you the question tomorrow." Anya nodded and began typing.

'I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE STUFFING' Anya had typed

"What for? Taxidermy? Beddings?"

'FOR PLUSHIES. SILK IS NOT GOOD'

"A what? What is a plushie?" Anya shook her head and began to type slowly while thinking of how to explain what a plushie is to a human.

'PLUSHIE IS USUALLY A SOFT AND CUDDLY TOY. MADE FROM CLOTH, FILLED WITH COTTON OR STRAW OR SOMETHING SOFT AND SQUISHY'

"Oh, so it is just another name for a 'stuffed toy'. Sure I can get you some"

'THANK YOU. I WILL PAY YOU BACK FOR IT'

Samuel just waved his hand in dismissal. "No need, It's part of being a trainer. Taking care of their Pokémon is part of our job"

'I INSIST. I DO NOT WANT TO BE TREATED AS A GLORIFIED PET. WE ARE OF EQUAL STAND#' the typing continued but the typewriter did not type anything more as the 80 character limit per line was reached. Each character after was hit on top of the 80th character making it a messy looking blob. The typing had stopped with a ding, Anya read what she had written and looked at the single line, she had forgotten to press 'enter'.

She was a bit unhappy that her rant was cut off but all of the necessary information was already written on it. She did not bother to type again.

"I see..." Samuel said after reading her written line. "How are you planning on earning money then?"

'CLOTHES AND INFOIRMATIONM' he got her answer, she had accidentally misstyped again.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Samuel was still intrigued "What kind of information?"

'POKEMON, EVOLUTIONS, MOVES, ABILITIES, LOCATIONS, RUMORS AND MORE'

"Oh, yeah, you had given me information about Eevees already, that was about evolutions? and that paid the typewriter" Anya nodded

"So its around 500 pokedollars for a single piece of information?"

'DEPENDS ON INFORMATION, BUT ALONG THOSE LINES'

'EVOLUTION CONDITIONS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN JUST KNOWING THE POSSIBILITIES'

'I AM ALSO CURIOUS ABOUT POKEMON MYSELF' she typed

'WHICH IS WHY I KNOW A LOT, NOT EVERYTHING'

"I'll at least keep you fed, you'll pay it by keeping the house clean and doing the laundry. Sound good?" Anya nodded, she was okay being the housekeeper. For now.

------------------------------

Samuel eyed the paper in his hands, it had one side of the whole conversation from earlier. His other hand was around the phone many times he had started dialing only to stop a moment later. He wanted to call Agatha, but he couldn't really know what to say to her. His mind mostly thinking of what to ask, which is why he tried to call Agatha.

His mind went to another place and suddenly the phone was calling, a click later a deep male voice was heard. "Hello? Who is this?" he had finally made a call. But not to Agatha.

"Hey, Dad" A surprised gasp was heard

"H-Hey Samuel, You haven't called for ages. We have been watching you on the television, congratulations!" his dad answered cheerily.

"I have a bit of a problem" Samuel confessed

"What? Stumped about your next opponent?" His dad chuckled

"No, If you could ask any question about any known or unknown Pokémon. What, what would you ask?"

"Huh, that is an odd question my boy...hmmh" he said obviously pondering his sons important question.

"It can be anything about Pokémon too" Samuel clarified, the line was silent for a moment.

"I- think" His father said slowly "That hmmh, that really is a hard question. There is so much to ask for, but only a single question" his voice quite serious, he had taken Samuel's stupid question seriously and really was trying to help.

They both chatted for a while when his father had to go, not before he gave Samuel an answer before parting. Samuel huffed, 'why didn't I think of that' he thought.

------------------------------

Next morning Anya slowly stumbled downstairs neatly dressed up. She noticed Samuel who was in the kitchen making an omelet. She chirped and got a cheery "morning" in response.

Their spirits were risen as Anya no longer felt so alone, funny how it took just a few hours to pacify all that loneliness and anxiety.

They both sat at the table, Anya sat leaning her side on the backrest and happily munched on her berry omelet

"I think I have my question ready, but no need to hurry. I have the whole day off today" Samuel said and Anya nodded.

Samuel told Anya about the last week or so why in more detail while they ate and Anya interested paid attention to what Samuel was talking about, inserting different types of chirps here and there.

They both were done and they cleaned the table and brought out the typewriter.

"Now the question" Anya waited for him to continue, she took her position in front of the typewriter, ready to give her answer.

"How was your life before meeting me? Tell me about yourself." It was not a question Anya was expecting, Samuel had a gently smile on his face, obviously pleased that his question was an unexpected one.

Anya's head racked, what should she tell him, telling him that she had been a Human once doesn't feel like a good idea. She slowly started to make a truthful narrative in her head where she removed some information. She finished her story and felt a bit bad about deceiving him.

'I WILL NOT WRITE EVERYTHING ABOUT MYSELF, BUT I'LL TELL WHAT I CAN'

'DO YOU STILL WANT TO HEAR? EVEN IF IT ISN'T THE WHOLE TRUTH?'

Reading these two lines Samuel was not exactly surprised, but he still nodded and said "Yes, I am okay with anything you give me" Anya gave a nod and began to write.

'WHEN I WAS YOUNG, I TOOK INTEREST IN POKEMON'

'I LEARNED ABOUT EVERY SINGLE SPECIES I COULD'

'REACHING ADULTHOOD, POKEMON BECAME A HOBBY AND TAILORING MY FOCUS'

'UNTIL BEFORE THE LAST WINTER WHEN I WAS SUDDENLY THROWN INSIDE THE FOREST'

'I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE MY HOME IS, HOW I CAME HERE OR WHY ANYTHING HAPPENED'

'I LIVED ALONE FOR A WHILE IN THE QUIET FOREST, SCAVENGING FOR FOOD'

'UNTIL A GROUP OF THREE YOUNG POKEMON AND THEIR FATHER FOUND ME'

'I SAVED YOU AT ONE POINT DURING THE WINTER'

'MY FRIENDS HAD TO LEAVE DUE TO BEEDRILL, I TOO HAD TO GO'

'ESCAPING FROM THE FOREST, I MET A GROWLITHE WHO ATTACKED ME IN THE PLAINS'

'I KI DISTRACTED IT AND RAN AS FAST AS I COULD'

'I RAN THE WHOLE DAY AND NIGHT, UNTIL I REACHED THIS TOWN AND TOOK A REST'

'WHEN I WAS SUDDENLY WOKEN UP BY A GROUP OF POKEMON AND THEIR TRAINERS'

'THEN YOU CAME, THAT IS MOSTLY IT'

There was a small pause, and Anya continued typing, obviously downcast

'I AM SORRY THAT MY ANSWER DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING OF REAL VALUE'

'BUT A QUESTION IS A QUESTION, I WILL HONOR MY WORDS'

"This, this is quite sad isn't it" Samuel said while reading, Anya simply nodded.

"Never thought that you just appeared inside the forest. I thought you came here with the help of a flyer or a water-type"

Samuel pondered for a while.

"Anyways, there are few questions I have, all about you, things which have been bothering me" Anya looked at Samuel, nodded and waited for him to continue.

"How old are you? From your story I get the feeling that you have lived for some time"

Anya nodded and took out a new paper and inserted it into the typewriter.

'I AM 17 YEARS OLD'

Samuel was quite surprised, she didn't seem that old. 'Well, Pokémon life-expectancy study has been inconclusive during recent years...' he thought, another question then popped into his mind. About recent events.

"Huh, I am not a Pokémon expert but shouldn't a Pokémon so old know how to battle especially if they have been living in the wilds?"

There was a short pause, and the clacking resumed.

'MOST LIKELY THEY SHOULD, BUT I NEVER KNEW HOW TO FIGHT'

'I THINK I HAVE UNCONSCIOUSLY USED SOME MOVES LIKE STRINGSHOT AND CUT'

'BUT I HAVE NEVER ATTACKED ANYONE, ONLY RECEIVED'

Samuel looked at the paper and sighed, from what he knew it should be natural for a Pokémon to know how to battle. It was part of their nature. All of this new info just gave him a headache. He was going to have a long day ahead.
