Chapter 36

Anya was typing away on the typewriter and Faesol was still resting on the sofa, her body healed but her mind still upset from her defeat. Anya didn't know what the normal recuperation time for Pokémon were so she let Faesol get as much rest as she needed. Not like she needed her help or anything of the sorts.

Anya stood up after writing a couple sentences that could be used for communication between her and other people in case the situation from earlier repeats itself.

Looking back at the previous situation, she didn't know why she accepted the invitation to battle and was afraid that something out of her control might be influencing her decision making.

She stood up and heard a ripping sound, by the she remembered the burned holes in her clothing and sighed.

'Guess, I am going to fix these today' she thought and went upstairs. Taking a shower and changing to a clean set of clothes, she took the burned clothes and started to patch the holes and remove the burned areas.

After finishing she put the now fixed clothes into the washing machine.

----------------------------------

The day was mostly over and last rays of sunshine coloring the skies of the horizon in reddish orange. Anya was listlessly petting Faesol who still slumbered on the sofa, silently comparing her life from before becoming a Pokémon to her new situation of being a Pokémon.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a knock was heard from the door. 'Who could it be?' thought Anya, as she stood up and walked to the door.

She slowly opened the door and saw an older well dressed up man she did not recognize standing outside. Anya carefully gave him a chirp of greetings.

The well old man curiously looked at Anya for a while and returned her greeting with a greeting of his own. "Hello, I am Sebastian Oak, Samuel's father" he said with a smile. Anya stared at the smiling man's figure in silence.

Sebastian coughed *Ahem* "Could we please go inside, it is still quite cold for these old bones" which stirred Anya out of her daze and stepping aside to let the older person to get inside. She noticed that Sebastian was using a finely crafted walking stick as a support.

She tried to remember information about Samuel's father but could not remember anything about him. The games and the anime, professor Oak's parents weren't mentioned anywhere.

The older Oak entered the house and took of its shoes and jacket. He looked around the living room locating Faesol peacefully sleeping at the sofa.

A ding sounded and typing continued for a while.

'GREETINGS, MY NAME IS ANYA AND THE ESPEON ON THE SOFA IS FAESOL'

'WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?'

Said the note that was given to Sebastian, he looked at the note and Anya alternating between the two every few seconds.

"He wasn't lying..." he muttered silently. Anya heard him but chose to ignore it as she most likely knew who the 'he' he mentioned about was.

"This, this is..." a short pause "Astounding" he continued "Imagine how much we could achieve if humans joined with the Pokémon to advance science!" he said overjoyed with a hint of conviction in his eyes.

'DOES NOT WORK, MOST HUMANS ARE TOO GREEDY, IT WOULD CAUSE PROBLEMS AND'

'I HAVE NO IDEA HOW SMART MOST POKEMON ARE, I KNOW I AM DIFFERENT BUT'

'MOST POKEMON I KNOW OF. ARE CAPABLE OF COMMUNICATING, THE INTELLIGENCE'

'DIFFERS. MORE LIKE WISDOM AND EXPERIENCE, NOT INTELLIGENT THINKING'

The older Oak visibly deflated after reading. Anya sighed she still didn't know what he wanted.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

'WHY ARE YOU HERE? SAMUEL IS OUT ON LEAGUE BUSINESS'

"Oh right, Sam asked me to come and take a look. If there would be any trouble and to see how you are doing by yourselves. You need to know that most trainers do not leave their Pokémon home alone while they themselves are out training." He smirked

'UNDERSTOOD, WE HAD A SMALL ALTERCATION WITH SOME ROOKIE TRAINERS AND'

'WE FOUGHT AND LOST, THE SITUATION STARTED WHEN WE WENT OUT SHOPPING'

'AS WE HAD NO TRAINERS THE PEOPLE HAD STARTED TO PANIC AS THEY THOUGH'

'WE WERE WILD POKEMON WANDERING INSIDE THE TOWN. A ROOKIE TRAINER FOUND'

'US AND CHALLENGED US INTO A TWO ON TWO SINGLES BATTLE.'

'OTHERWISE THE PAST WEEK HAS GONE NICELY, WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS, KURT'

'THE POKEBALL SMITH CAME TO GREET US AND TOLD ME ABOUT HOW POKEBALLS'

'WORK. HE LEFT AFTER CONFIRMING SOMETHING'

'THAT IS MOSTLY IT, WE HAVE BEEN TRAINING IN THE BACKYARD AND DOING'

'SOME OTHER MISCELANEOUS STUFF'

Sebastian looked at the paper again, he wondered how did such a Pokémon learn how to use a typewriter so fluently.

"You knit?" the older man said baffled. Anya nodded, lifted her arms and pointed at the piece of clothing hanging from the makeshift drying rack.

Sebastian curiously inspected the hanging piece of cloth and noticed the whiter patches here and there. Looking closely he saw the techniques that were used to join the pieces together.

"These are very good, my wife does textiles at home. I had to learn a bit on the side" he chuckled.

Anya and Sebastian talked for a while, or more likely she was just listening Sebastian telling some stories about Samuel.

"It is getting late, I hope you don't mind me staying in one of the rooms upstairs. I'll leave early in the morning." Anya shook her head, she told her guest that the room is largely unused and has collected a lot of dust, but she told him that she will clean the room for him, to which he thanked her for.

----------------------------------

Waking up at the break of dawn, noticing that Faesol had moved from the downstairs sofa to her bed at some point during the night. Carefully navigating out of the bed without disturbing Faesol was simple as the lilac colored sun Pokémon was calmly sleeping on the other side of the bed.

Leaving the room, she noticed the guest room door was already open and Sebastian had already left. Anya went to the bathroom, refreshed herself with a quick shower and went downstairs, ready to start the day.

Taking a berry out of the fridge she noticed Faesol going down the stairs with a cat-like grace. Anya took out another berry, this one for Faesol's breakfast.

"Good morning" Anya said cheerily

"Mornin" Faesol greeted back

"So, how are you feeling? You had your first battle yesterday"

"It was interesting" she answered "I am still too weak" eyes cast down

"You just had a bad matchup, that is all. You did great!" Anya tried to cheer her

"That just means we have a lot to learn" not wanting to tell Faesol about her own side of the battle and tried to steer the conversation towards improving themselves.

---------------------------------------

After breakfast they both found themselves at the backyard, where they both stared at each other.

"Ready?" asked Anya

"Ready" she got her confirmation.

Anya stood still while Faesol sprang into action. Faesol's red gem started glowing and Anya readied herself against a Psychic attack, steeling her mind.

A while passed and nothing had hit Anya, her eyes were locked onto the prowling form of Faesol few meters out of her reach. She wondered if something was wrong and noticed something odd happening in front of her.

The shape of Faesol started twisting and turning, a ripple flashed and she exploded into a bright light, she was gone. She looked around but couldn't see her anywhere. Even the location where she stood didn't have any footprints or marks.

Soon an extensive amount of different colored lights started flickering around her, her sense of danger flared. Something was coming she lowered her posture, she noticed something moving between the flickers.

A wave of psychic energy slammed at her back all of a sudden causing her to stumble forward a few steps. The lights cleared out and Faesol sat there, looking disappointed.

"What's wrong?" Anya asked

"You are..." she sighed an answer

"That latest attack, hit you" she continued

"Wasn't that the point of the attack?" she was confused

"Yes, but it was supposed to hit your aura, not you"

"I see?" Anya tilted her head puzzled, not exactly understanding why she was upset.

"What is the difference between hitting aura and hitting the body?"

"Umm, Aura protects the body from attacks, its like a layer of skin? fur?"

"Ninetales had once told me that attacking a Pokémon who doesn't have any aura left is wrong and might put their life in danger and should be avoided at all cost"

"Huh, interesting..." Anya sighed, seems like she still had lot to learn about Pokémon.

The battle ended and Anya apologized to Faesol, who just shook her head and went back inside.

Anya still left outside, was thinking hard, how could she activate her aura... She tried many different things. Trying to psych her body into a battle ready state, there was no success in sight.
