Chapter 35

Anya stood on her side of the field as Faesol appeared. She hoped that Faesol was strong enough to deal with both of the other trainer's Pokémon.

A referee that was chosen from the audience was giving the countdown.

"Get set" both Pokémon visibly readied themselves, taking on what someone could call a battle stance. Faesol lowered her body in preparations to move at moments notice.

"Ready" The opponents Houndour's mouth started to leak flames and Faesol's gem was shimmering brighter, both readying for an initial attack.

"FIGHT!" The referee shouted and both participating Pokémon leapt into attack. Faesol being the faster of the two, her telekinetic attack crashes into Houndour but due to its Dark typing it had no effect and the Houndour countered by releasing the prepared flames at the surprised Faesol.

Faesol took the whole attack head on.

"Your opponent is a Dark-Type Pokémon!" Faesol's attention snapping to Anya "Psychic moves do not work directly on them!" The Houndour was quickly closing in and gathering energy around its mouth, soon clamping its sharp teeth against distracted Faesol, the trainer cheered "Great work! Keep it up!".

Faesol yelped in pain and reactively blasted the Houndour with a psychic energy at point blank range. Again, nothing happened, but the Houndour did release its jaws and Faesol jumped backwards obviously wanting to get some distance.

Anya was stressed out, she didn't know what to do, she wanted to help but she really didn't know what 'moves' did Faesol know and further shouting might cause her to be distracted again and take a free hit.

"Use your psychic energy to blast sand at its face!" Anya steeled her mind, hopeful that Faesol heard her and she would be smart enough not to be distracted.

Faesol seemed to have learned from her mistake as this time she just glanced at Anya, and kept her eyes on her opponent. Before her opponent could attack again she shot her psychic energy and caused the sand on the ground to spray towards her opponent.

The Houndour was hit with a sudden blast of sand to the face and stumbled a bit, causing its prepared tackle to miss.

Faesol seizing the moment, tackled the passing Houndour and quickly backing away. The Houndour rolled over and quickly got up and shook its head. Its attention snapping back at its target and quickly shooting small balls of fire at her.

Not being a properly trained battler and more of a house pet, She was already getting tired and could not react to the fireballs coming towards her. She got hit and fell to the ground. Barely conscious, she whined a bit, struggling to get back on her feet. The referee called her out.

Anya recalled Faesol "You did well" she said. She put the berry basket to the ground and Faesol's pokeball on top of it along with her bag. She couldn't risk them being damaged in the middle of the combat.

She sighed, she had hoped that Faesol would have been strong enough to at least take out one of their enemies. She stepped forward.

The referee called "Round two, Houndour versus an unknown Pokémon, Fight"

The battle was back on, this time though. Anya's sheer height caused the Houndour to hesitate. Until its trainer called it to attack Anya with an Ember.

Anya lowered her posture, intently looking at the Houndour. It was still irritated by the sand in its eyes and its focus was hardly on Anya anymore.

The unfocused fireballs aimed at her were easily side stepped, she still didn't attack and tried to gather energy around her cutters. Nothing happened.

Frustrated by her lack of control over her own energies, she cursed silently.

Dodging the continuous barrage of fireballs was easier than she thought. It seemed like Faesol's sand blast was still working.

Anya tried to gather energy while casually dodging the fireball thrown on her way. The other trainer was puzzled of Houndour's action, by now it should have hit at least once.

Houndour whined, visibly tired, all of its energy expended and its eyes still hurt from the lodged sand. All the while Anya had just kept her distance.

The other trainer recalled Houndour and the referee made the call.

Somehow Anya had won, she puzzle herself. She wasn't even capable of releasing an attack, just tiring out her opponent seemed to do the trick. The problem was that she knew she had to face a trained Growlithe next, this one not having any disadvantages against her.

"Final round, Growlithe versus an unknown Pokémon, FIGHT!" the referee shouted.

"You managed to beat Houndour, I must not underestimate you!"

"I didn't do anything, I swear, Houndour was just tired from the first fight"

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

The Growlithe didn't say anything else and dashed towards her, gathering energy in preparation for a tackle Anya guessed.

She readied herself, ready to jump to the side as the Growlithe attacked. Its speed increasing with every step it took, causing the estimation that Anya had made to be off by a little.

The Growlithe smashed into Anya's side in the middle of her dodge and Anya was tackled to the ground, the Growlithe turning around and continued its attack with a spray of fire afterwards.

Anya screeched in pain and rolling on the ground in panic.

The continuous spray of fire had stopped and Anya noticed that the pain was gone. It seemed like her defensive energy field had started to work. Oddly, she had started to sense the energy around her more keenly.

She noticed how the Growlithe was gathering more natural energy and converting it to fire Type-Energy in preparations for another attack. She felt something click and her eyes narrowed, quick glance at her cutters, they were now faintly glowing with a thin sheet of translucent energy, her move had finally activated.

Steeling her resolve, she focused back on the Growlithe and took off to a sprint. It has been a while since she had ran. First two steps were awkward but, her body clearly remembered as she was gaining speed fast.

Growlithe being considerably smaller target than her, she did the only attack she had used before and subconsciously coated her legs with energy, increasing her speed even more. She did the only attack she had done before and like the situation back then her target was yet again a Growlithe.

The Growlithe grew more nervous as its opponent had suddenly started dashing towards it. It was preparing to dodge to the side while spraying its target with as much fire as it could in such a short amount of time.

Anya shrugged off the impacts from the hit fireballs and continued onwards. Her clothes were charred and tattered, but underneath she was still mostly unharmed. She was closing in on her target, only a step or two left. The Growlithe jumped to the side and Anya was already prepared.

A football kick was executed and it cleanly connected to the Growlithe's side, launching the canine to the edge of the field.

The opposing trainer and some spectators were stunned speechless, they were expecting Anya to either use her empowered cutters to cut or her body to tackle, not a single one of them expected her to just kick the canine like a sports ball.

The Growlithe rolled on its feet and stood up, glaring menacingly at the opposing bug-type. Preparing for a new assault it started gathering fire-energy at its mouth, ready to release on command.

"It's stronger than I thought but, we are stronger, GO!" shouted the trainer to its Growlithe

Anya noticed that her kick didn't throw her opponent far enough to end the battle, so she did what she thought was the correct choice and promptly left the field. According to the rules stated by the referee, if a Pokémon leaves the arena, it is no longer allowed to battle and the current round ends.

The referee noticed her intentionally exiting the field and called the Growlithe a victor, she noticed that the referee was surprisingly professional and sighed in relief. What if they had forced her to battle until she was either knocked out or incapacitated.

The other trainer and the spectators were stupefied, the match had looked interesting and many of them were disappointed from the anticlimactic conclusion.

Anya approached the other trainer who flinched out of his thoughts when he heard Anya's chirp. The other trainer looked at Anya who gave a small bow to the victor, she would have preferred to shake hands but her hands were pair of sharpened cutters so she just gave him a courtesy bow instead.

The other trainer being flustered by Anya's sudden withdrawal and held his hand in front of him. Anya waved her cutter a bit, clearly showing her bladed hands. The trainer flushed in embarrassment and bowed deeply to hide his face.

Anya giggled and went to her basket afterwards, put on the neck piece that had Faesol's pokeball. She also motioned to the other trainer to follow her, which he surprisingly did, while thanking her for the match.

The crowd had dispersed and they easily left the field.

Just outside the other trainer finally opened his mouth. "What do you want? Why did you stop the fight?" he asked her and bombed her with questions, to which she could not even answer, even if she wanted to.

An idea struck her, Anya motioned first at him, then at herself and lastly at a direction she believed she would be going.

"You want me to follow you?" The trainer asked. Anya being surprised by being understood so easily nodded.

"Alright? Let's go" he confirmed

They arrived at Samuel's house, she took out a key from the bag and opened the door. She motioned the other trainer to go inside. He hesitated for a while and when nothing happened Anya sighed and went inside. The young trainer stood in front of the open door for a while and heard an odd ding sounding from inside.

Soon after Anya came back outside and gave him a piece of paper.

'I APOLOGISE THAT I STOPPED OUR MATCH, BUT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT'

'I AM NOT A FIGHTER AND I REALLY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BATTLE'

'AND FAESOL IS TOO YOUNG TO FIGHT, SOMETHING ABOUT PREMATURE EVOLUTION'

'MAKES HER BODY WEAKER THAN EVOLVED POKEMON SHOULD HAVE BEEN, I THINK'

'IF YOU WANT TO COME INSIDE, WE CAN CONVERSE A BIT BETTER'

The trainer stared at the paper, he understood some of what was written in the familiar yet strange language he hadn't seen before. He hesitated and in the end denied the invitation to enter the house, he had seen the postbox which read OAK in bold letters knowing all too well which Oak this house belonged to as only one of them lived in Pallet.

Saying goodbye to Anya he quickly left. Anya just shrugged and closed the door.

Releasing Faesol was bit of a trouble, as the weak looking feline flopped on the sofa.

Her whining caused Anya some concern and carefully fed her an Oran berry.

She saw first hand that the nasty looking bite wound had started to close soon after eating, the wonder berry causing a magic like effect. Anya just wished they had these kind of things on Earth, it would have made the whole place much safer if they worked on humans. Now that Anya thought about it, she had never seen any human eating a Pokémon berry for some reason.

She added this to the ever growing list of things she wanted to know about the world of Pokémon.

The whining had stopped and Faesol had fallen into a peaceful slumber, the berry slowly healing her injuries. Anya's mind was back into the battle, she studied everything she could remember about it, even the smallest details didn't miss her attention.

She noticed that during the combat her senses heightened, like activating a version of herself that was meant for battling, all idle thoughts were gone and her focus on her opponent became like solid sword made out of steel, unwavering and sharp.

'It seems like, there is a lot more to Pokémon that I do not know, which isn't that much of a surprise. Better get started then' She thought and started typing her notes.
