98. The Way Of Boy

It had been about an hour since they had started playing.

In the aftermath of Max's victory, Ken had won three battles and Max, three, in addition to his first victory, making it four.

All the while, the dextrous, except on 2 occasions, losing to the attritious.

In the heat of the battle, the pair remained, eyes transfixed on the screen, never moving an inch from it and somewhat robotically taking a few bites from their snacks every now and then, while also coversing with one another.

While playing a game like Warring Dimensia 2 with a friend, it was hard not to make a decision to meet up.

A meet-up being, for two players to make a choice to meet up in the same area of the map for a one on one brawl.

The area, of course, being decided upon during the gameplay, would be deserted enough that no one could interrupt them and large enough that they would not be able to see each other immediately.

In other words, the fight would be as fair as possible in this game.

Max and Ken, of course, could not resist the urge to try this. It was simply much too tempting.

Max: So, Grudgemaster's Gorge?

Ken: Hmph!

A nice middle ground for the two players, located in Max's dimension.

The cliffs were steep, so it would seem, at least to a casual player, that Max would have the advantage due to his greater mobility, which of course was true, however, the cliff faces meat that Max was a sitting duck, albeit a mobile one.

The dextrous warrior that could avoid most hits versus the attritious warrior who would not miss.

It would all come down to who landed the first blow. That much was obvious.

Ken looked to Max, who simply seemed to be raring to go.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Ken: (thinking: This guy....)

And so their characters made it. Both players sneaking glances at each others screens to see where their opponent was exactly.

But within a few seconds, it was bleedingly obvious to the both of them. They were on opposite sides of the gorge.

Max on the higher peak and Ken on the slightly lower one.

As they approached the cliff faces, and their characters' faces became visible to the other, Ken and Max instinctively looked at each other.

Max and Ken: Hmph!

Max's character ducked away at a volley of rounds from Ken's. He knew it would miss. After all, he'd seen Max fight before and knew that he was adept at dodging.

Ken instead reloaded and waited, aiming his minigun at the cliff faces side. After all, he knew well that Max would not try a direct overhead approach.

Max: (thinking: So.... how do I get through Ken?)

Ken, seeing Max perplexed, decided to throw grenades over head.

Ken: Bombs away.

Max: What the!?

The grenades landed on the opposing cliff face and almost destroyed Max, leaving his hp at 35%.

Max: Dang it!

Ken: Hmph! I thought the dextrous were supposed to think on their feet.

Max: Mmmmmmm....

Ken: (thinking: Well... now he's getting serious. Good.)

He racked his brain left and right. The attritious class just so happened to have better armour. Whatever way he called it, going blow for blow with Ken would never work. However, Max suddenly came up with a plan.

His character ran to the top of the cliff face and shot a grapple line to Ken that firmly attached itself to the ground, as all grapple guns did.

To Ken, that was a most absurd move. Simply put, while Max could theoretically bring himself to Ken, Ken would simply shoot him on the way.

That was where Max's plan came in. Just before he made himself visible, he started firing his very own minigun, much to Ken's shock, as miniguns were not a dextrous class weapon.

Ken: What the!?

Max: You didn't say anything about stealing the enemies weapons on the way.

Ken: Tch!!

Ken's character had to take cover, giving Max's character a chance to make it to his side of the cliff face and shoot Ken's character after jumping, dodging his attacks with the grapple gun.

Max: Booyah!

And thereafter defeated Ken.

Max: Oh yeah, that's right! I beat you!

Ken: Hmm. I guess you did.

Max: And now, to loot your character.

An exasperated Ken sighed.

Ken: Sure.

Max's character started to loot his ammo and weaponry. However, Ken's character suddenly blew up.

Max: What the!?

Ken: Hmph. Self-destructive heart that goes off after defeat. Neat trick, don't you think.

Max couldn't hide his amazement. It was a legendary perk. One that he never would have thought to be careful about.

And so that battle ended in a draw. Such was the violence of Warring Dimensia 2.
