94. Assembler's Origin

In a sophisticated looking lab somewhere, far away from the eyes of the general public.

This lab was expansive, and not only that, but there were also massive vessels containing massive obscure creatures floating in some kind of green liquid.

All of the scientists were in masks, dissecting specimens, adding chemicals as well as using needles to remove fluids from them.

The room was deathly silent. Not a word had been spoken by any scientist.

On another side of the room was an entirely different lab. Scientists working on machine parts such as highly sophisticated robot arms, so sophisticated that it was able to morph into a gun, and then a cannon, and then a blade and finally a foot.

The other scientists nearby nodded congratulatorily on seeing that.

Above them was a man whose face was obscured by shadows, watching a video in silence, seated like a king on a throne.

A scientist came by. His attire was different from the others' attire. Instead of white lab coats, he wore an odd red one.

Scientist: Good evening, sir.

Name: Herbert Quinn

Age: 33

Description: Knows his way around the lab

Occupation: Scientist

Fact: Loves all sorts of animals, but loves puppies especially because he enjoys experiencing the suffering they go through before they die after he feeds them chocolate.

Man: Good evening.

Name: Unknown.

Age: Unknown

Description: Unknown

Occupation: Unknown

Fact: Unknown.

Herbert: I see you are enjoying the footage of today's exploits.

If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Man: Yes

The video turned out to be one of Max, Tiffany, Luke, Rose, and Ken trying to defeat the spider bot.

Herbert: Those children were quite the handful for Assembler. Even after using its Amalgamate, they still found a way to defeat it.

The man did not reply.

Herbert: Ahem... well... I came here because I simply wanted to ask you a question.

The man remained silent.

Herbert: The question being, why did you have Assembler attack the X-corp branch in Hypercity? It simply makes no sense to me. After all, Assembler ended up being destroyed.

The man continued to keep his silence.

Herbert sighed. Almost as if he had already given up.

He turned to walk away, and just as he had almost reached the door, the man started.

Man: The human body is a fascinating thing, is it not?

Herbert: Hmm?

Man: When germs enter one's bloodstream, one's white blood cells work together to defend the body from disease. When the body is cut or bruised, platelets come in to close the opening to the body. In fact, even exhaustion is not safe from the body's self-defense mechanisms. After all, we all sleep, do we not?

Herbert was visibly confused.

Man: For any system of any kind of proper functionality, everything must work together to achieve its own singular purpose. For the body, that means not only to survive but also to thrive.

Herbert remained confused.

Herbert: What are you getting at, sir?

Man: Simply put....

The man clicked a button, and the screen changed. Now, it was showing facial profiles of Max, Tiffany, Luke, Ken, and Rose.

Man: What do you think would happen, if a city was suddenly attacked? Most especially in a place well known to most as one that supports mothers and children.

Herbert: They would....

It suddenly occured to him.

Herbert: I see.

A moment of silence followed during which Herbert admitted to himself that his plan was genius. After all, Assembler wasn't something any normal human could kill. In fact, several non normal humans couldn't destroy it. So, it was, in effect, a genius move.

Herbert: Your wisdom never fails to astonish me.

He bowed down to the man.

Herbert: Forgive me for questioning it.

The man did not even so much as turn to look at Herbert. He simply clicked a few buttons on his seat.

Man: Keep an eye out on these five.

Herbert looked up.

Man: Especially these four.

He left Tiffany out of the group.

Herbert: Understood.

He soon promptly left, only to meet a woman at the door.

Name: May Summers

Age: 32

Description: Knows her way around the lab.

Occupation: Scientist

Fact: She induces a small amount of a poison in her body every day. The kind of poison that would leave most humans writhing on the floor in pain. Said amount of poison has this effect for around a day.

May: Good evening, sir. A call for you from the X-corp CEO.

Herbert simply left without another word.

Man: Tell him to give all of my employees a paid leave while repairs are being done. And settle all the accounts.

May: Understood.

She then promptly left as the man continued to look at their facial profiles.

He then zoomed in onto Luke's profile.
