Chapter 91

Beginning’s End 9

-:-

The low class suburban area of Vermilion City was turned into a sea of blood as 2 forces clashed.

In one side were the 8 Norscan Warriors of the Volsung Clan.

On the other side was Juno and 3 demonic swordswoman known as Furies.

With Juno at the head of the pack, the 4 plunged into the Norscan warriors with feral ferocity.

While it might look like the odds were stacked against Juno’s group, such was not the case.

The Norscan warriors had a decent set of weapons and armors, some of which were rune enchanted.

On the other hand, Juno’s team had the best Nichola had to offer. Each and every one of their armaments were not only enchanted, but also had abilities inscribed into them.

Juno’s armor, The Holy Maiden, was imbued with ‘Deamon Strength’ which allowed Juno to match the physically superior Norscan warriors without using any magic or chi based physical enhancement.

If she did do that in combination of The Holy Maiden armor, she would have single handedly slaughtered the 8.

However, this was a trump card that she didn't want to use at the moment.

Anyways, her weapons were more than enough to do the job.

Juno locked blades with one of the warriors, but was immediately attacked by another from behind.

“Wail, Banshee” said Juno

The axe suddenly expanded, as if taking a deep breath. Not a millisecond later, an ear piercing scream in excessively loud volume drowned the area.

It was so loud that some of the poorly constructed buildings collapsed from the resonance.

Juno’s one handed axe, The Banshee, had the ability as its name suggests.

The effect was so great that it temporarily stopped the Norscans from moving.

Naturally, Juno and the Furies intended to fully capitalize on this short window.

Juno pointed the dagger at the warrior behind her and said…

“Viper, Sting!”

A small blob of acid shot from the dagger’s tip and splashed into the warrior’s face.

While the warrior’s helm was unaffected by the corrosive acid due to the powerful runic enchantments, the warrior’s eyes, nose and mouth were not as fortunate.

The warrior screamed in agony as the acid began melting his face off.

Juno quickly returned to the dazed warrior in front of her and stabbed the man in the neck with the dagger before cleaving said neck off with a brutal hit with her axe.

All around her, the Furies sang a joyous song while the norscan’s pain filled scream acted as the accompaniment.

The Furies’ longsword was called The Agony.

It was a mass produced demon blade had the ability to induce an unlucky soul uncontrollable spasms were so violent that broke bone, tear muscles, cause internal hemorrhaging and even outright kill someone from either snapping their neck or banging their head into the wall way too many times.

Aside from that, it overloaded the brain’s pain receptor to cause as much agony as possible.

Hence, the name of the weapon.

The Agony was a single target ability that can only be casted once a day due to the massive mana requirement and the effect only lasted one minute.

Despite these limitations, the psychological damage of watching your ally spasmed himself into a pretzel like shape was severe.

The moral of the last 3 norscan warriors broke and they began running for the hills.

Juno left the Furies to play with the dying norscans as she chased down the 3.

Unfortunately, the norscans had a decent head start which resulted in a distance gap that Juno had a hard time shrinking.

With that in mind, Juno threw the axe Banshee at the norscan furthest away from her.

And to no one's surprise, she missed by a mile.

Her axe landed a few meters in front of her target, much to Juno’s annoyance.

She couldn't understand why in the machine god’s name was she so bad at range combat. She was a whirlwind of death in melee combat, yet she couldn't hit the broadside of a building at range.

Well, it wasnt that she expected to hit anything when she threw the axe.

“Banshee, Wail!”

Once again, an earth shaking scream propagated from the axe forcing the norscans to tumble down and cover their ears

This allowed Juno to close in and unleash her lust for blood.

The first one was on all fours, as if asking Juno to shove it right in.

Juno happily obliged by violently inserting the dagger Viper into the man’s backdoor.

“Viper, Sting!”

The man roared in agony as highly corrosive liquid was shot up his discharge pipe.

Juno took the man’s axe and left him to savor such a rare experience.

The second was using a wall to keep himself standing.

Juno rushed from behind and sank the axe into the man’s hamstring, quickly followed by a dagger into the eye socket of the helm

It was a fast and efficient assault.

The last one, however, was able to recover from the sudden psionic attack and was ready for Juno when his turn arrived.

The warrior swung his two handed axe at Juno with the intention of splitting her horizontally..

Juno step leaned sidewards and used her axe to deflect the blow. At the same time, she positioned her dagger on the path where the warrior’s arm’s would pass through in mid swing.

The dagger was impaled into the man’s wrist, effectively breaking his grip on his weapon and causing said weapon to fly out of his hands.

Without missing a beat, Juno grabs the warrior’s arm and judo flipped him into the floor.

She mounted the warrior repeatedly bashed the warrior in the face with the axe.

While the first blow killed the warrior, the blows that followed was just for the heck of it.

After the 10th hit, Juno left the axe buried in the norscan’s skull and went to get the Banshee.

She then went back to the Furies and commanded them to stop playing with their food. She then instructed them to loot the corpses.

While observing the Furies loot and eat the corpses, Juno increased the volume of her voice and said…

“Dorothy Boreal, I’ll give you a choice. Either I’ll drag you out from kicking and screaming for where you are hiding, or you can just walk out and talk to me. Your call.”

A few moments later, a petite girl clad in black from head to toe walked out from the shadows of a nearby building.

This was Vulture, one of Crow’s sidekicks.

To Juno, she was Dorothy Boreal.

And just behind her were about 5 individuals with flashy costumes whose identity Juno didn't know or cared to know.

“You look good in skin tight outfits. It brings out the lolita in you. You’d be the apple of a lot of perverts eye if you just ditch the whole sloppy girl look and wear some presentable outfit” said Juno in a light hearted manner.

“Juno…. Why did you do this?” asked Dorothy with a shaking voice.

“That question right off the bat huh. How boring. Can't we have a bit of fun first? Some light banter to set up the mood”

“HOW COULD YOU ACT SO CALM WHEN YOU KILLED PEOPLE?!”

“*sigh*.... Fine fine. Calm down. I’ll answer your question.” replied Juno in a light hearted manner, much to the annoyance of Dorothy and her super friends. “The main crux of my actions boils down to one reason: They hurt Theo, they die. Fairly straight forward as reasons go.”

Though Juno’s actions was too cruel, her motive was pure.

Even the superheroes understood this.

“But your really have to kill them?” asked random superhero A

“Not really. I don't HAVE to kill anyone” replied Juno

“Then-!”

“But I’ll kill them anyway. This is where our value system differs.” said Juno, much to the confusion of the superheroes. “To the regular superhero philosophy, all life has value, thus every life should be treasured. As for me, life is inherently worthless. The only life that has value to me is Theo’s.”

Juno delivered that line in a manner similar to saying the sky is blue.

To Juno, her twisted belief system was as much as a fact that the earth was round.

This made the superheroes quite uncomfortable.

“Juno. Are you insane?! Superheroes are suppose to protect the weak and save the world! Those are not the words of a superhero!” replied Dorothy in horror.

“Dory, I think it should be fairly obvious by now that I don't want to be a superhero. The only reason why I’m in HAA is because Theo is there. I’ll leave the millisecond he leaves.”

The faces of the superheroes paled the moment they heard Juno’s words.

They didn't come here to punish Theo or anything. They came here to convince Juno to leave Theo.

Theo’s performance today was most shocking to the higher ups of the HAA. His combat logic, skills and overall proficiency to do battle was vastly higher than the HAA’s official records.

However, his worth was overshadowed by Juno’s massive potential.

If the HAA loses Theo to this incident, it would be a painful loss and nothing more.

On the other hand, losing control over Juno was similar to giving away a nuke to someone else. It was a catastrophe in the making.

Thus the mission to talk Juno into leaving Theo.

Dorothy, however, had no interest in the mission.

Her priorities centered on Theo and her father who was currently working in Theo’s company.

In all honesty, she has been worried sick for her father’s well being since The Boss discovered who she was.

However, it seemed that The Boss was good on his word.

He didn't touch her father, ever.

He even gave her father a promotion from a cashier to store manager.

And in a sudden turn of events, Theo discovered her father’s past experience and recently hired him to lay down the foundation for the company. Once that was done, he would be promoted to a position which was effectively the 4th highest in the company.

Most importantly, her father had the salary to match his work.

The fire that had once been extinguished since her father’s divorce was reignited into a roaring flame thanks to Theo.

Dorothy loved Theo more and more because of this.

The very fact that her loyalty to Crow, whom she also owed a great deal, was a massive roadblock that kept her from going to Theo’s side was frustrating.

As such, she could only approach Juno if she wanted to know what was happening.

While the older superheroes continued their futile mission, Dorothy snuck in a question.

“Is my father safe?” asked Dorothy in a small voice.

Juno quickly picked it up and began ignoring the other superheroes.

“Yes he is. Theo made sure that no harm would come to him. You can visit him anytime you want once this whole fiasco is over.” replied Juno.

“T-then what about Theo’s condition?”

“He was forced to fight for hours, got hit by a powerful norscan curse and had his last organic eye ripped out. He’ll be fine. FYI: there is no sarcasm in my words.” said Juno in a light hearted manner. “Remember the mummy girl with me earlier? She’s a top notched dark magic based item maker. Once she knows what item was used on Theo, she’ll figure out how to counter it easily. As for his eye…. Well… that’s gone. But he’ll bounce back from that with a few upgrades to boot. No need to worry.”

With that said and done, Juno gave Dorothy a small goodbye wave as she began walking away.

“Juno! Please wait! Hear us out a bit!”

One of the superheroes tried to grab Juno by the shoulder

In response, Juno swung her axe at the superhero and stopped barely 1 centimeter away from his neck.

“Theo said not to kill any superheroes, so I wont kill any of you just yet. But know that I will never forgive you for doing nothing while Theo suffered. Pray that Theo never views you as enemies, for I will be the first in line to rip you apart!”

As Juno and the Furies left the area, a dark cloud began to set over the superheroes and the HAA higher ups that were watching in via body cam.

Their actions just made Juno their enemy.
