Chapter 25
The Lord of Vermilion’s Test 8
-:-
The atmosphere inside the large office floor was tense enough that you could slice it with a knife.
The 10 MIBs position themselves far from each other, making them hard to take out with one single bomb.
All of them had their guns trained at the only hallway to enter and exit the elevator.
Just to clarify, the 35th to 39th floor was designed to funnel potential attackers into a kill zone
With plenty of cover for the guardians of Jerome Fraskith’s family, it was easy to defend and extremely hard to assault.
As such, the MIBs were confident that the fools that took the elevators would soon turn into beehives.
This wasn’t the first time someone was stupid enough to storm such a fortified position and it wont be the last.
But for all of MIB’s successful defensive battle, they had never once faced an opponent that used extremely unorthodox methods.
Thus, the stuff Theo pulled off was completely outside the MIB’s expectations.
A gold coin flew out of the elevator door.
The coin went up as high as the ceiling before gravity pulled it down
While this confused the MIBs, they decided that this was nothing more than a pitiful attempt to distract them.
They ignored the coin after it bounced off the floor.
This was a big mistake.
The moment the coin bounced up half a meter off the ground, a gunshot was heard from the elevator.
Barely a millisecond later, the sound of metal hitting metal.
And one second later, a scream of agony
“MY LEG! DAMN IT! MY LEG!”
One of their own suddenly hit the floor with a bullet hole in his thigh.
Confusion spread through their ranks.
“What the hell just happened?!”
A couple of MIBs went to assist their comrade while the rest kept their gun trained at the elevator hallway.
Inside the elevator, Theo couldn’t help but make a defeated sigh
“Yup… the ricochet headshot from last time was really a fluke… *sigh*”
Even with all his cybernetic enhancements, it was really hard to pull off such a trickshot.
Naturally, for the sake of coolness, such a hindrance wont stop Theo from trying.
Theo took out 3 not-gold gold coins, opened the elevator door ever so slightly and threw the coins with full force.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
He quickly took aim with his AK47 and fired 5 shots.
The first shot bounced hit the first coin and bounced to the left where Theo’s first victim was at.
It hit the MIB trying to help the injured man on the back. It wasn’t lethal due to the bullet proof vest.
The second shot bounced back towards the guy nearest to the elevator hit him in the neck, instantly killing him.
The third shot hit the third coin and went to the right. It one of the MIBs in the hand
The forth shot bounced off the second coin and went about 10 degrees to the left, killing an MIB as the bullet went through his mouth.
The fifth shot bounced off the first coin and went downward, then bounced off the third coin as it hit one of the MIBs nearer to the elevator entrance right in the ass.
With half of their numbers either dead or injured, one of the panicking MIBs grabbed the RPG and fired it into the elevator door he was in.
“OH SHIT!”
The panicking Theo jumped to the elevator next to him.
Before he could safely reach the next elevator, the RPG blew the door and blasted Theo off course into a freefall.
Theo reacted quickly.
He fired his grappling gun upwards and pulled himself onto the elevator he tried to jump on earlier.
As if on que, Theo heard 3 elevator doors opened on the 38th floor and a large number of people rushing into the floor.
It seemed that all 9 of his ‘allies’ went into the 38th floor.
“So that’s your plan. You’re going to have me commit suicide by bodyguards. Well played.”
To the mercenaries, Theo was Lord’s leash on them.
Just like Theo, they were lowlifes that pursued their own agenda over anything else.
And just like Theo, they wouldn’t hesitate to kill people just to get what they want.
As such, Theo’s existence was a wall that kept them from achieving whatever goal they had.
Theo wasn’t going to hold this betrayal against them. That’s just how the world of ‘not so good’ people worked.
However, Theo was most certainly going to kill them later.
The mercenaries had become a liability to Theo’s job, and similar to what they did to him, he’ll eliminate the abstractions in front of him
With that in mind Theo steeled his resolve and prepared to take on everyone in the 39th floor alone.
Before Theo could spring into action, a large chorus of gunshots rang out from the 38th floor.
“Group 2! Ambush at 38th! 10 contacts! 1 casualty! Request backup!” said group 2’s leader
Theo couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
FNN’s security followed a protocol that not even Lord could spot despite having many spies working within.
And since the surveillance room was on the 40th floor, it was literally impossible to blind them
This assault was closer to a blind charge than anything.
This was the reason why Lord hired some of the best mercs in Hell Hole to do this job.
As such, there was no way FNN’s security would overlook a possibility that the attackers would go through multiple floors.
“Since the meat shields are doing a phenomenal job of distracting the ones below, I better do some cleaning of my own”
Theo moved to the farthest elevator and opened the door ever so slightly.
Based on the gum drone’s footage, 2 of the MIBs went to check on the elevators while the 3 tended to the wounded.
Theo took aimed and waited.
The moment he saw someone entered the small hallway, he blew that person’s head off.
The other MIB immediately open fired at the door Theo fired from.
Theo pulled back, fired his grappling hook at the hole the RPG punched through, pulled himself through that hole and fired at the other MIB before he could realize that Theo was there.
Theo rushed into the big office hall and dove for cover behind one of the desks as he was met by gunfire.
Theo moved from table to table while returning fire.
It was difficult to land a hit because the MIBs also made good use of cover.
One thing was for sure, Theo wouldn’t stand a chance against these guys in normal circumstances.
As such, Theo had to fight in an unorthodox manner.
Theo threw one of his not-gold coins into the wall in the MIBs general direction
After experiencing the might of these coins, the MIBs dove into a cover that shielded them from a potential ricochet.
This was a bad idea because the coin was nothing more than a distraction and Theo was going to capitalize on this mistake.
One of the MIB died while moving into a different cover.
Once again, Theo executed the coin trick.
This time around, the MIBs showed hesitation.
And once again, Theo made them pay for it.
Theo’s bullet ricochet off the coin, went straight through an MIB’s neck
Quite simply, fighting against Theo in this situation was literally checkmate.
If they didn’t move, Theo would hit them with a ricochet
If they did move, Theo would gun them down the moment he saw them.
Naturally, the remaining MIB did what a true man would.
He threw his gun, stood on top of a table and drew his dagger.
“I CHALLENGE YOU TO A ONE ON ONE DUEL! COME AT ME BRO!” said the manly MIB
Theo responded like any sane man would in such a situation…. By shooting the MIB in the head from long distance.
“No”
