I traced the movements of the Possessed as they pushed each other further on the wall getting slashed in the process.
As they were being held off, I shot at them. They had no chance to defend themselves. The only advantage they had was in numbers and it started to show as some of them managed to reach the stairs.
I continued to shoot until I heard a sound of creaking doors below me. I pulled my bow and backed away from the stairs.
I watched as one Possessed came rushing at me, but stopped as he saw me aiming at him.
" Please don't shoot me." He said.
He was dressed in leather armour making his head the ideal target as it was unprotected. At the sides of his face blue glowing veins confirmed his possession. He had a short sword in one hand and dagger in the other.
" Drop your weapons and I won't shoot."
A sound of metal hitting the floor was heard. He kneeled on the ground, looking at me with his glowing blue eyes.
But he had no chance to plead any more as fresh blood soaked the walls of the house. It creeped into the crevices on the floor. Looking to give a reminder of what happened here.
His eyes still glowing with blue lines in them were now that of a fish. Lifeless.
Blood flowed down my hands. I took down my bow and put my arrow back to the quiver.
" I should have killed you to grow stronger. Yet, you died useless."
I came back to the window and fired all of my arrows I had. By that point the Possessed were being thrown down the wall with ladders following after them.
And the first battle was coming to an end. With only a few strugglers being slaughtered by the soldiers.
I came outside the house to be greeted with a sight of soldiers being carried away on stretchers.
Having all kinds of injuries from arrows pierced through them, slashes, cut off body parts.
I saw behind the wall a radiance being emitted contrasting the now starry sky.
I went onto the wall and watched what was happening.
What I saw behind the wall was no sun, but a sea of lights floated in my vision, each and every one of them representing a couple of Possessed resting by them. All around them were cast long shadows onto the siege towers that they were building.
I didn't observe no more as I went and helped with clearing the battlefield.
It consisted of taking a body be it enemy's or ally’s, taking any arrows if there were any. Then dragging it onto a pile of corpses. While the Captains observed and noted down each kill.
At the end the piles were lit on fire. A smell of roasted pigs spread throughout the town from them, but It had to be done so there won't be sicknesses that'll defeat us before the Hive can.
Once that was done, I found myself in a line before one of the tables where a Captain was assigning rewards.
" So, an archer. Tell me which arrows are yours and hand me your ID."
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
" With red tree inscription." I said.
" Let's see." He looked through his notes." That was 22 kills, not bad at all. Here is your money." He gave me a pouch filled with money and my ID back." Make sure not to spend it in one place."
" Thank you." That'd be the side rewards received. A 11 silver coins.
As for the main rewards.
Name: Raven
Class: Archer
LVL: 4/10 EXP:180/800
HP:110/110 MP:100/110
AGI: 16 DEX: 13
END: 13 INT: 13
STR: 13 WIS: 13
Skill points: 0
Attribute points: 0
Skills: [ Weak presence 3/3 ]
I levelled up my [ Weak presence ] up to 3/3 making my concealment go up to 50%. Other than that, I assigned all my stats to AGI so that I'm faster in all my actions.
I also unlocked a basic combat passive skill [ Quick hands ]. It had a requirement of shooting an enemy two times in a row within 10 seconds.
[ Quick 0/5] - +5% to AGI per point
It's not the greatest skill there is, but better than just a plain bonus to stats. This'll benefit me more in the long run.
As I was finished, I packed all my still usable arrows and put them in the quiver. I had 30 of them and there was no need to get a refill.
I walked off further into the town looking for some sleeping place. The further I went from the walls the more crowded the streets became.
But contrary to the joyous scene from the market. This place screamed another sort of joy. There were scantily clad women all around and even some men in revealing clothes. They all wanted to catch attention. In the air was a foul smell as people went to back alleys doing all kinds of things.
" Hey there do you want to spend a night with me?" One black haired girl said to me. She had great tanned body and a bountiful personality waiting to be uncovered.
" No thank you, but I would like to know where can I spend the night. Do you know of any good taverns." I said and handed her 20 Copper. I did a good deed, after all. Look at her she seems she's too poor to even buy clothes.
What a cruel world. She's clearly wearing too much clothes. If I were to manage this town, I'd make sure she wears strings for clothes.
" I'll take you there with me." She said and took my hand while pressing against me with her body. She told me all the matter of things about the district and markets that could be found here.
We came a long way before going through an alley. The end was a dead end.
" I'm sorry." She left me standing in place while she went back. There she stood next to a group of three thugs, poles in hands.
" Good girl." Said the tallest of them, hugged and groped her chest while doing so. " Stay back, we'll reward you when we get back. As for you, empty your pockets."
I did as he told me and threw the money back at his feet.
" You see this. This is how you do it. Pleasure doing business with you, but we'll have to do our job." He said and started rushing at me swinging the pole. The other two were just behind coming from both sides.
I shot my bow before the main thing could get within a striking range. I hit him in the chest. He fell to the left side slowing down one of the thugs.
The thug on the right got to me and swung his pole at me.
-6HP
I was grazed when I stepped to him and blocked the hit with my bow. I took out the knife from my tunic, but as I was swinging it he caught my hand.
We were in a strength competition, before the other thug arrived and swung his pole at me.
I pushed the thug that was holding me to take the hit. As he was recovering from that I took a shot at his head and he fell. But before I had a chance to take care of the last thug. He threw the pole at me and hit me in the head.
-35HP
I fell to the ground blood flowing down my forehead. I saw as he came to me and kicked my side.
-10HP
But I wasn't done yet. I grabbed his leg and pierced one of my arrows into it.
He tried to get me off by bashing my body with punches, but I held on and stabbed his leg repeatedly. Until he fell to the ground and I crawled up his body stabbing everywhere I could. When I got to his neck, he didn't even have the strength to stop me from piercing his neck.

I rolled off his body, got back to my feet and saw the woman covering on the side of the alley.
" Please don't kill me. I just did what they told me." She pleaded for her life with me but I ignored her and went to finish off the other two thugs. After doing so I looted them.
I got back my money and got 6 silver coins as a bonus. Other than that I grabbed two papers from the main thug that he got. I came to the woman that was sitting on the ground and slashed her arm with the arrow, drawing a bit of blood on the paper.
" Don't fight against it or if it fails you're dead."
" Yes, yes." She said and clutched her knees. I leaned on the opposite wall and watched as the paper was glowing in front of me.
As it was glowing, she was clenching her teeth in pain, but after a while it stopped glowing and the pain faded away.
I came to her and before she could do anything pressed the paper against her belly.
