Chapter 5

I laid down on the cold hard floor. Blood dripping from my side.

Stared at the ceiling. I called out the system, I looked through it except for the system nothing else was working. The exit button was greyed out, the same for the mail button.

The corpse wasn't dissolving. This has got to be a bad dream. I calmed down my breathing and analysed my situation.

There are only two possible outcomes.

No, there is only one possible outcome that could have happened. I'm stuck in my neuro gear thanks to some error. I'm so fucked I've got no one that would help me get it off in real life. No one that would come check up on me after what happened. If I remember right, I ate some instant noodles before getting on and obviously drank some booze to wash it down.

I think I won't die soon because of the lack of nutrients, but I'll better find some player that'll help me to at least call the hospital.

I was getting back up when I saw a spider dragging away the dead Centipede. I'm pretty sure the eight legged fucker saw me too as it dropped down the centipede.

I slid to the bow that was on the ground. I picked it up and dodged to the side a leap of the spider.

I drew my bow and let loose one arrow into its behind.

It turned around and leapt at me. It tackled me to the ground, but I managed to put my bow into its mouth and use it to hold it off from tearing my face off. But It still managed to stab me with one of its legs.

-10HP

With my other hand I pulled an arrow out of my quiver. Still holding off the pushing spider I pierced an arrow into its head.

It wobbled away the arrow still inside. With its front legs It tried to reach for it and get it off, but I gave It no chance as I shot an arrow ending its struggle.

First of all I got all the poison and other fluids off my bow. I inspected what it was.

[ Spider poison ]

-Quality: common

-trait: Paralyze: Slow acting poison. Spreads into the bloodstream and immobilizes prey.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

That would have been a painful death if I was caught by those small spiders.

Now that I think about it. It'll be easier if I just kill myself and It'll kick me out into reality. I'll just lose some progress that I can get back whenever. Then I can come to the shop at the corner and demand a refund for faulty equipment.

I should stick to the plan and I'll go from there. It's not like I'm in a hurry or anything to get out by killing myself.

I allocated 1 stat to AGI and opened the skill tree in the system. I moved around the interface until I found the area where Archery skills were. Most of the skills were grey spots that couldn't be inspected. They were locked.

I inspected the cloudy ones. They were skills that were still locked, but some their prerequisites were completed. Enough so that you can see what are the other prerequisites. But this doesn't work for every skill as there are some that could have five conditions and they'll only get visible after satisfying four of them.

And sometimes it's the other way around that for some skills only one condition can be met and the prerequisites will be visible.

The last category were the unlocked ones. They came in all colours.

There was only one skill that was cloudy coloured.

[ Weak presence ]

- Be one meter from an enemy without him noticing✓

- Perform 5 stealth kills 0/5

I don't think I'll be able to complete it soon. It'll be impossible to complete it with only killing centipedes. After all, two of my shot arrows bounced off and still lay here somewhere on the floor. It should be possible with only killing spiders. Yes, I can kill the small spiders and If I can shoot into the crevices from farther away, I'll remain unspotted.

It'll be easier to leave the Dungeon with this skill.

I also inspected the three unlocked white skills.

They are the same starting skills, used to just exchange skill points for stats. They're useless, even more so because skill points are hard to get. They are dropped only on level up or if you win against a higher Tier of enemy than you.

I picked up all the arrows and my dagger. The two arrows that got bounced off were both broken.

I collected a piece of mandible from both enemies and I doused all my arrows in the spiders poison.

Even if the feature isn't working the guild should only need a piece of them to know I killed them.

I got on my way before any more enemies got lured here. I went through the left tunnel of the intersection. After a while I saw one of the crevices.

I pressed my ear next to the nearby wall and listened. Nerve wracking sounds were coming from there. As if someone was whispering in the dark.

I backed away from it. When I was a good distance away from it I aimed at It and let one loose.

I checked the skill. It displayed 1/5.

The spiders poured out of the crevices, looking for the perpetrator. They couldn't find anyone so they just crawled all over the place. Slowly even getting to me.

They were more visible now, thanks to the moss all around. Making for easier targets.

I shot arrow after arrow at them after seven arrows I've had all the kills I needed, but three spiders were heading the way I was.

I quickly put a skill into the [ Weak presence 0/3].

I pressed myself against the wall and watched as they came right beside me.

[ Weak presence 1/3 ]

I went behind them with an arrow in each hand and skewered two of the three spiders. The last one was quick and bit me before I could get him.

But he met the same fate as others.

*Ding killed ...

I left the tunnel before the other spiders caught up.
