Chapter 8

I went to one of the shops that also sold arrows, supplies and some oddities. I got two bandages and everything else I spent on 40 arrows.

" You going on the wall, lad?" The shop keeper asked.

"Yeah?"

" Then don't forget to mark your arrows so others don't claim your kills. You know what, since it's your first time in my shop let's do it together."

" Ok." We both sat down at his table while he took out some paint and we got to work.

" Do you have anything specific in mind that should be your inscription?"

" It doesn't matter as long as I can distinguish it from others."

" But still, It's said that an inscription chooses your destiny." He paid no attention to me and picked up a brush and dipped it in red paint. "Hmm, how about a red tree. That should be good. It'll bring you growth and eternal life. With colour of red meaning in warfare and violence. Meaning you'll be able to grow and survive this war. " He looked at me.

" Whatever man, just are you sure there're no other people with the same symbol?"

" None that I know of."

" Okay then let's get to it."

We marked all the arrows. It took us no more than ten minutes

" That's it, lad. Before you go, mind giving me your name."

" Raven. And yours?"

" Such a mistake what have I done? Giving such an inscription to someone so..."

He clutched his head and went into his own world muttering something about raven being synonym for death. I had enough of it so I went out, taking my new arrows tied in bulk on my shoulder.

I got to the wall after a while of walking. It was erected all around the town. A solid 15 meters of pure man-made show of strength. It was throwing shade on the nearby buildings.

I went up the stairs and with the last step I got blinded by the setting sun. The pinkish clouds were beautiful to look at.

Below them a sole horseman was speeding along trying to escape, but as he got to the peak of a small hill on the horizon. He got shot down.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

" What a fool. I told him that he should stay here and not risk it." One of the nearby soldiers said and stood up.

"Ring the bells!" One of the more well-dressed soldiers shouted, with that all of the people rushed to action.

-1HP

I got pushed to the side against the wall as the soldiers were moving.

"Move out the way." One of the older soldiers spoke to me.

"Jack, you go do your own work. As for you go to the tower and fire."

I got to the tower with the Captain’s voice coming from behind me shouting at some other soldier.

In the tower was a rack half full of bows and near it sacks full of arrows. I'll use it if I run out of mine.

I have a lot of work to do before I can truly survive in this World.

I watched as people rushed from the hill.

" Hey what's that. Do you see it?" One of the archers yelled in fear.

We saw what looked to be some pulsating bluish monstrosity. They were all clad in armour that they kept all around themselves, keeping it all together was their pulsating flesh. They came in all sizes yet they weren't rushing it seemed as if they were herding the humans before them.

They were Night hive a single entity that lies somewhere In the Dungeon. Meaning I'm at the absolute beginning of the first expansion.

We killed it only because, we overwhelmed it with pure numbers. Nothing more and yet at the end someone stole the relic that it possessed. Only to be never seen before.

What a time it was throwing myself at the enemy.

I stayed put and waited for the enemies to come into range.

When the first of the peasants came into range, I opened fire.

*Ding killed a Hive Possessed p lvl.1

+Gained 10 EXP

Just as I thought.

" Hey shoot!" I yelled at the others that were dumbstruck by the appearance of monsters.

We shot arrow after arrow at the Possessed while they tried to erect some ladders that they brought.

Even if they were successful, they still ended up skewered by spears at the top.

And unfortunately for them there was no way for them to back off either as that meant being assimilated by the flesh of the monsters, adding to their size and possibly gear.

Poor bastards and if they were to somehow get free the Hive will just pop the seeds inside them. Turning their insides to outsides.

I continued to shoot sporadically as they had Possessed with bows. They managed to shoot me two times taking away 40 HP. I took out the arrows and bandaged the wounds it left.

Each kill took about two or three arrows, if I managed to hit. One only if I managed to hit a vital area. They were just like spider babies just with less HP

After I switched to the shopkeeper’s arrows, I went down the tower to reposition myself. There were too many arrows flying our way, effectively pinning our position.

I watched as the Possessed managed to get ground in some places on the wall.

I went inside one of the buildings close to where the most Possessed were coming in from.

Inside was a ruined scene of someone's unfinished dinner. But better be safe than anything else.

I went up a floor and came to one of the windows where I could look at the whole situation.

I readied my bow and got to work supporting the Spearmen that were facing them.
