I got in front of a stone building that got a sign saying Adventurers guild. It was a plain looking building like the others around it the only difference was a wider front.
I went inside where there wasn't a mess strangely enough. There were people drinking beer at the tables and all around were only people murmuring to each other. The air was full of decadence resembling that of my own room, If only by little. I went around the tables until I got to the reception windows. There was no one there. Quite a difference with the bar right next to me where people were getting their drinks.
I didn't have to wait for too long before one of the staff at the bar noticed me. She had long black hair and a slim body like that of an [assassin]. Maybe It was so, because Guilds mostly recruit their retired members to do some of these jobs. She went through a back door. Only to appear a moment later before me behind the window in a black uniform now befitting a receptionist.
"Can I help you with something?" She asked me while flashing a professional smile at me.
"Can I register with the guild?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure that'll be 50 Copper."
"Well, there's this small issue I don't have money on me, but If you give me a bow and few arrows. I'll take one quest and I'll be back here in no time." As I was saying, she was looking at me with a strange gaze so I added at the end." With the quest completed of course."
Stolen story; please report.
"It's okay. You can take the bow and arrows with you. I was just not taking into account the current situation."
" What's the current situation then?" She glared at me so I added. " I really don't know."
She was looking at me for a bit more before a trace of pity got visible in her eyes and she said. " There's war."
"Against who?"
" Against the Odruvia Kingdom and we unfortunately are at the forefront of the defensive line as the Tall Fortress Raul fallen. Now we have to bear the force of their army. They should be here before the night."
Before I could ask anything else one of the nearby Adventurers with a beer and a scar on his face said. " Don't worry, they only managed to tame the Fortress thanks to their dishonesty. " Just as he ended a comrade next to him continued. " Yeah, they can only be like snakes. Going for sneak attacks, declaring war when they're already some tens of kilometers into our territory."
" Aren't you Adventurers? By this point you should have the knowledge and experience of these tactics working out. The notion of rather being alive and victorious than dead and honest." An older man with a grey beard said while they were still going on.
" Hank, this isn’t some brawl or fight. This is a full-scale war. There is diplomacy and procedures to take into account." The one with the scar said and sat up from his chair.
" Then there is even more of a reason to use them. After all diplomacy is only so good, if both sides are willing to talk. A miracle is if even one of them listens." The old fellow Hank ended his beer and went outside. Meanwhile the Adventurer he was arguing with sat back down and continued talking with his comrade.
I turned back around to the receptionist and saw her waiting for me with an Adventurer ID card in hand. She had her smile back on. She was going to say something, but I was faster.
" So now you're just giving things away for free?"
"Not exactly. If you have this ID, you'll no longer be a citizen and it's your duty if called upon to protect this city."
" Okay, that's logical. By the way can I request some more arrows or better yet some additional weapons."
She kept smiling and replied. " You can go with me when I'll be getting your equipment from the armoury. But don't get too happy. The special and strong equipment was already paid for or leased by strong adventurers or the army. Now please use this needle to prick your finger and drop a little bit of blood on the ID."
I did as she told and a text similar to the System got visible on the card. Listing my Name, job and Tier.
She handed me the ID and went out from the side doors of the reception. I quickly followed behind her and moments later we went through a couple of empty rooms before we stopped at a armoured door. She placed one hand on the door and a magic circle appeared that rotated for a while before a resounding click was heard and we could go in.
" Before going in I'll have to request from you that you don't take anything out through the door. I wouldn't like to have blood over me, because someone couldn't keep their hands to themselves."
" What should I do, if I can't take it out?"
" You first give it to me and I'll deactivate the magic mark on it. Then It's okay."
I nodded at that and seeing that we went ahead.
