A pair of two people could be seen walking around in the market place in the early morning. They were getting some vegetables from an old lady. But for some passersby it might seem like they were threatening the poor lady.
One of them was a knight with a spear on the back and a shield. It looked like the knight was doing a bodyguard for the man in front.
The man in front had a bow on his bag and was bandaged underneath his leather armour. After haggling with the old woman for a long time. They paid, received their vegetables and went their way.
" Was it necessary to haggle with the woman?" Said Stella.
" If I didn't, we would be ripped off 10 coppers. The harpy though we were someone who could splurge."
" Yet you didn't even budge when she told you her story. About her sick son."
" Everyone has some sob story. And stop looking at me like I'm some big bad villain. Look I'm making a promise if I learn alchemy I'll treat her sick son."
" Then it's a promise."
" I didn't know you were such a saint, fighting for other people. You should have considered a job change before."
" I didn't hear the second part. But isn't it nice helping people when you can?"
" I should have just paid the fraudulent price and I wouldn't have to listen to this." I sighed.
We got out of the Dungeon after midnight when the fighting on the wall was already over. So, fortunately we headed for the tavern and went to sleep. This time on separate beds thankfully.
Thanks to that bed arrangement I got some quality sleep. We had our breakfast at the tavern. Now we were looking for some food that we could take in our backpacks.
Also, at breakfast we made a promise of taking a day off.
" Why do you still have the armour on?" I asked.
" It's so that I don't have that many eyes on me. You know, to blend in."
" And this'll make you blend in. Where are you going anyway?"
" I'm going for a walk." I raised my eyebrow at that.
" With a full armour, shield and a spear. That has to be one enthusiastic walk for you to take these things. Just tell me straight up who you're gonna kill. I won't be mad. I might even join."
She made sure nobody was listening before answering me. " I'm going to free the child prostitutes that they brought into the red-light district."
I started laughing at that.
" What's so funny about it. They too have the same right to have a normal life." She said and looked at me her fists clenched.
I sighed " Don't get me wrong, but you don't know what you're getting yourself into. You're lying to yourself, if you think that just by getting them out of those establishments everything will be fine."
I grabbed her by the shoulder and forced her to look at me. " If you're not prepared to go all the way then they'll lose even the little they still have. By doing this you'll take from them the roof over their heads and the food on their tables."
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
She remained unmoving, before a quiet sobbing was heard from within the helmet.
" Then what should I do?" She said and grabbed my hands.
" If you really want to save them. First find if there's a place to take them in. An orphanage would be ideal. Knowing your past, you might wanna make sure it's a legit one. Maybe having a fighting plan's not a bad idea and there's no third. Just this."
" Can you help me?"
" I guess, but let me enjoy this day off. If my memory serves me right it was your plan to take a day off."
" Okay, but can we check some on the way."
" Sure." I feel like I'm going to adopt a child. Stella could make a good mother figure with that saviour complex of hers.
I should keep that complex in check or we'll be running around all day finding anyone who needs even the slightest bit of help.
We inquired at the market place for an alchemist and an orphanage. There were several orphanages around the city. We promised to meet each other at the tavern for dinner.
While Stella was going for the nearest orphanage. My goal was the town hospital. The pedestrians said that he was the best when it came to alchemy with even the town lord requesting his services.
When this doesn't work out there are still some herb shops and the like where there are less skilled people.
But considering the amount of coins we have thanks to all the jewels. It wouldn't hurt training my alchemy the old-fashioned way, it would just take some extra time.
I made my way in front of the hospital. There was a group of soldiers resting on the stairs passing a bottle of alcohol to one another. I went by them into the hallway.
Since last time I visited the hallway got slimmer as beds with injured soldiers were by the sides. I went in front of the door at the back and knocked on it.
" For treatment, please wait a bit at the front." The nurse said as she opened the door. The moment she did so a strong smell of herbs and alcohol assaulted my senses.
" No, I just wish to talk to the Doctor."
" Say what you want to me and I'll pass it to Doc."
" I'd like to learn alchemy from him."
" I'll tell him, but don't get your hopes high of him agreeing with you."
" I think I would make a good student. It doesn't have to be for too long just until I can do tier 1 potions." I said and handed her a small coin pouch.
She sighed as she took it." Okay, I'll be right back."
In the hospital there was not much to see. With patients howling in pain and such. Not long after the nurse came out and told me to go to the Doctor.
I went through an operating room until I got into a bedroom. The Doctor was waiting there for me sitting in his chair.
He had long unkempt hair and a long coat. On the street he would look like a beggar. The only thing making him different from a beggar was his place skin.
" So, you're the one wishing to learn alchemy from me. I thought you died."
" Why did you think that?"
" Well, don't get me wrong. But usually, wounded patients who got out without being fully treated, get sent here once again."
" Okay, that's not what I came here for. So, can you teach me?"
" What do you wish to learn?"
" Poisons mostly and some health potions if that'll be possible."
" For your own use?"
" Yes, I need it in the Dungeon and all the fighting."
" Then we have a deal. But if you want to sometime sell health potions or potions of any kind. I know some shops where they'll pay you a good buck. Take it as me, your Master looking after you."
" Okay then deal."
" Deal, Raven."
" How do you know my name?" I said and watched him.
" It's a skill I have. It lets me know some information about things. But it works best on plants."
So [ Alchemist eye ]. It enables the user to see information about plants and in higher levels even some general information about people and objects. While the system only tells the user the information that can be gamified. In this case, it was a good move that I went here. He should have at least a good grasp on herbs and their uses and he doesn't even have to know a lot of alchemy.
It's kinda regrettable that I only played Archer characters and didn't spend any time learning some subclass. It would have made it a lot easier to learn something a second time, if I had the previous knowledge about it.
I still have some knowledge about expensive and rare herbs, but only about how they look and not about their properties. My days as a thief were not all for naught.
" Okay, can we start now?"
" Yeah, here you have all the necessary tools and there are also some notes and books in the drawer. You just have to bring some herbs. Or I can sell you some."
" I'll be right back with the herbs." I said and smiled before going outside.
This was an attempt at thievery in broad daylight. But it's okay the books are what I'm after.
Fuck, but some materials would be nice.
What a cheap Master I have.
