Before starting he distributed his remaining points from the last level up. This time all four spare points went into [PERCEPTION]. Then the slaughter began. The bird monsters didn’t have tough scales like on the previous floor. In fact, they had very little defence at all. Despite their massive sizes, his [WIND BLADE]s cut off heads like knives through butter. Honestly, by the end he was beginning to feel a little bad, just the slightest bit.

After three days, he finally stopped for a rest and allowed [ULA] to drink from one of the lakes. A part of the bank was unguarded so he had cast the [MIRAGE] skill on both himself and his companion. It turned out this was even harder. The effort was giving him skill levels though. While waiting for the [KELPIE] to drink her fill, he allocated his points. Five went to [VITALITY], then two points went into [INTELLIGENCE], [WISDOM] and [CHARISMA] each. He loved the rush of power as his attributes rose. It felt amazing.
Next on the agenda. He finally had more than fifty skill points! It was inventory upgrade time!
Available Skills:
[CRONO DEPOZITARE] – 30 Points
Huh? [ROGER] was pretty sure it had been fifty points last time he checked. What had changed? Focusing on the skill, he brought up its description.
[CRONO DEPOZITARE]
Allows storage of any item of any size. An unlimited inventory that allows the storage of living entities. All items and entities will be frozen in time during storage.
Note: As a lesser storage skill that can be upgraded is possessed by the user, the cost has decreased.
Look at that. There was even a handy little note explaining things. Not needing or wanting to wonder about it anymore, he purchased the skill.

Skill: [CRONO DEPOZITARE] granted.
Now there would be no need to waste any of the food that came into his possession. He went back to the nine kills he had made that day and stored the future chicken drumsticks. He didn’t want to go back any further than that, the meat would be too old. It was nearly time to head to the sixth floor, he could already feel the pull to go further down. The strength of the compulsion wasn’t based on which floor you occupied, but how high your level was. He wanted to get an extra two levels again, just to be safe. [ULA] had also risen in levels and was now [LEVEL 34]. He had noticed a few other [KELPIE]s and [BEHIR]s around the floor, as well as some [ETTERCAP]s and [STIRGE]s. He was surprised to also come across a lone [WARG] as it stalked a few [AXEBEAK]s. He had been in [STEALTH] and had been concealing [ULA], so he decided not to intrude.

By the end of the day, he had reached the goal of [LEVEL 37]. It would be unwise to go lower without being rested though, so he led his companion back to their new temporary burrow that had been dug into one of the hills the day he arrived. Before napping he assigned three of his newest points to [INTELLIGENCE], three to [WISDOM] and then put the last two into [CHARISMA]. The dreams were peaceful and he actually dreamt about his Dad and how distant they had been in his previous life. It would be different this time. He would be more involved and lend an ear to his family when they needed it. It was true that his Dad had been distant, but Roger hadn’t exactly been reaching out to his father either. Though he regretted it, he could only move forward from now on. It would be different, he was different, he had learned his lesson.
Waking up the next morning he headed for the sixth floor. Trekking through the tunnel he found it was slowly growing dimmer and colder, a lot colder. By the time he reached the entrance to the sixth floor it was pitch black. He was really glad he had [PANOPTIC VISION], but even that was having trouble piercing through the gloom. Things were about to get dicey. [ULA] seemed restless and kept wandering off for some reason. When she started to trip a few times, he got it. She didn’t have a skill to see in the dark. Quickly sending a request, it was immediately accepted. He opened up [ULA]’s status screen and shifted to her skill page.

Available Skills:
[NIGHT VISION] – 10 Skill Points
[DARK SIGHT] – 20 Skill Points
[PANOPTIC VISION] – 40 Skill Points
Not wanting to use up all her skill points for her, he selected [DARK SIGHT]. Her steps looked more self-assured afterwards. They didn’t sound assured because [KELPIE]’s had an innate skill to make their steps silent. Ultra cool. Then he dumped half her spare attributes in [INTELLIGENCE]. Her race already automatically got [WISDOM], but the dull look in her eyes cleared up a lot after the allocation. She even had a bit more spring in her step as they moved forwards. Done with his interference, he closed the screen.
It turned out he didn’t need to go looking for the monsters innate to this floor. They found him.
Monster – [NOTHIC] – [LEVEL 35]
Monster – [OTYUGH] – [LEVEL 36]
Monster – [REMORHAZ] – [LEVEL 37]
Monster – [VROCK] – [LEVEL 39]
The first monster to attack, a [NOTHIC], could almost be called humanoid. It had jagged spikes running up and down its back, and one giant eye taking up the top part of its face. Its long needle-like teeth were uneven and it let out a piercing screech upon attacking. Ow. [ULTRASOUND] did not like that. It used [DARK] magic to block his [WIND BLADE]. The creature was just fine against [AIR] magic and seemed to be laughing at him. The tables turned quickly enough as it apparently wasn’t appreciative of [LIGHTNING] magic. It gave out another screech, more pained this time, then fell on its back, dead from electrocution.
The [OTYUGH] was much less subtle. It stormed into their path like it owned it. The monster reminded him a of a [BULETTE], except that it didn’t have a tail, had rocky skin and also jagged, needle-like teeth. Three tentacles grew from its back ending in mouths that had the same long teeth. The [WIND BLADE]s were blocked by [EARTH] magic this time. The monsters of this floor seemed to be competent in magic. However, [LIGHTNING] affinity was their nemesis, though he suspected that [FIRE] affinity would be even worse for them. All well, the [LIGHTNING] attack did the trick again.

Skill: [ELECTROCUTE] granted.
The third type of monster to attack them was the most dangerous yet. It clearly had resistances to all elemental magics as [ROGER] threw one type after the other at it. The [REMORHAZ] was a gigantic twenty-foot-long and five-foot-wide cobra centipede monster. As it glared down at them while hissing, its previously blue body began to glow an orange red. The heat radiating off it was intense, like lava. Yeah, there was no way he was getting close to that thing. Pulling on the needed affinity strands he created a storm in the air above the monster. He put as much power as he could into the spell.
*DING*
Skill: [THUNDERSTORM] granted.
The miniature storm crashed and boomed as it covered the entire cavern roof that could be seen. Lightning struck the creature and the rain came in a downpour that speared the monster with every drop. The gale surrounding the storm was strong and buffeted the [REMORHAZ] from all sides. Wanting to see how well the storm could attack his enemies he sat and channelled it for a full five minutes while protecting himself and [ULA] with [MAGIC SHIELD]. The cobra centipede was distracted trying to levy its own fire-based magic at the storm thundering around it. He had meant to channel the spell for longer, but after five minutes the [REMORHAZ] died from all its wounds.
After storing away the creature, he noticed that there were lots of notifications from other monsters that the storm had killed, including a [VROCK]. Despite the area of the attack, he honestly hadn’t expected the magic to be as powerful as it had.

Then again, these monsters were all ambush predators that relied on the dark for protection. Upon collecting his kills, he found that a [VROCK] was a scrawny humanoid bird creature that had a long, thin tail and bird claws for both hands and feet. Nothing all that impressive really.
