Chapter 22 - Farewell, I'm Off To Fight A Real Battle

The [WARG]s went back to their own pond and the rabbits travelled back to the burrow. He allotted his spare points while waiting. He now got four points per stat per level, along with four spare points. The points were distributed evenly between [VITALITY], [INTELLIGENCE], [WISDOM] and [PERCEPTION]. That meant each attribute he chose got five points on top of the automatically assigned points. It also meant that he now had twenty skill points, but he would just leave those for now. An hour later, the rest of his family came back with similar results from the trip. Both his mother and Rey had gained [LEVEL 24]. All his sisters had reached [LEVEL 20] as well. He had only been a little worried. Just a tiny bit. After twenty or so minutes of silence with the slumber of evolution, the results were evident.

Yes! It had worked. Before leaving the burrow that morning he had instructed his siblings to channel and use their extra affinity as much as possible. It was obvious that the outcome of that advice had been very beneficial. Asking around a bit, he found out that they had unlocked the secondary affinities of their base elements at fifty percent proficiency. They had made some real gains this evolution. There was a slight problem though. They could now all feel the compulsion to go to the lower floors. Upon reaching [LEVEL 25] the storm rabbit was sure that he was meant to go all the way down to the fourth floor. Now that he had trained them up to an acceptable level of power, he needed to go further down himself. [LEVEL 50], here he came.

They rested again together that night, but in the morning, he said goodbye. He emphasised that they should all work together to stay alive in a final lecture of sorts. They were all quite sombre as they took turns rubbing their faces against his own in a gesture of farewell. He was not tearing up. He really wasn’t and you couldn’t prove otherwise. With watery eyes, because you know pollen and stuff, he left the burrow. He wouldn’t be seeing it again for a long time.

He passed through the second floor, leaving the alpha to watch over things. He also gave a firm warning, just in case. The [WARG]s really didn’t appreciate spontaneous showers. He assured them he would be more considerate in the future as long as they reciprocated. The tunnel to the third floor was much the same as the one to the second. The only difference was that it exited out into a rainforest. He could even hear a waterfall out there somewhere. Wild. The bunny concluded that he actually enjoyed exploring, it was an enlightening experience. Now, what types of monsters were down here?

Monster – [CHASME] – [LEVEL 23]

Monster – [STIRGE] – [LEVEL 23]

Monster – [DRETCH] – [LEVEL 24]

Monster – [ETTERCAP] – [LEVEL 25]

He had travelled all throughout the third floor, so now he was sure. His [LEVEL 25] power resonated with the dungeon somehow, and it compelled him to go deeper every five levels. The fourth floor called to him like a siren, but he wanted to properly check out each key monster of this floor first. There were a couple from floor one, but the majority of the prey was from floor two. He imagined this trend would continue as he travelled down.

The [CHASME] and [STIRGE] were actually similar insectoid creatures. The [CHASME]’s were basically giant four-foot-long mosquitos. A [STIRGE] was the same body shape, but had half the size, four bat wings and a wasp like stinger instead. The [DRETCH] and [ETTERCAP] monsters were also similar to each other. Both had orangutang like bodies with no fur, the only differences being that the [DRETCH] had a distorted bat face, while an [ETTERCAP] had the eyes and mouth of a spider. [ETTERCAP]s also only had two claws per limb. Nothing all that exciting really. Though it was still eerie. Even after nearly a month in this new world, the storm rabbit still found all these different monsters just existing a bit weird.

Moving on after only a few hunts then. The view of the waterfall had been nice, but it was time to travel on to the fourth floor. He travelled down the next tunnel once again and… he was very disappointed. It was a water floor, kind of. No one likes water floors in games. The layout had many large lakes with only a few rocky banks running between them. The rocky banks were like a maze of sorts. There were many dead ends that just ran back into the lakes. Only a few paths actually led to the other side of the cavern, which couldn’t be seen all that well due to the difference in lighting. This floor still had the distorted light from the crystal overhead, but it was dimmer and the roof was a lot lower than the previous floors. His [MINOR TELEPORT] let him cheat by just teleporting from one spot to the other. Around half the dead ends were too far away from any of the other paths, but that still left him with a lot of leeway. While sussing out his new levelling grounds, the storm rabbit kept an eye out. The narrow rocky banks didn’t exactly leave many great hiding places.

Even with the extra vigilance, something still managed to get the jump on him right as he came to one of the dead ends. Not knowing what was in the water, he didn’t want to jump into the lake, so he dodged in the narrow space. [ENHANCED PRECOGNITION] and [ULTRASOUND] really came handy. It was like a sixth sense dialled way past ten, almost a future sense. Finally getting a chance to look at his first enemy of this floor, he was caught off guard by the shear freakishness of the monster. It gave him the chills.

Monster – [BEHIR] – [LEVEL 27]

The creature could be described as a cross between a snake and a wyrm dragon, except that it had twelve legs. The [BEHIR] hadn’t even tried to make a damaging attack first. It had sprung straight from the cavern roof and tried to crunch down on his body with its jaws. It looked big enough to swallow him down in one bite too. The monster was a gigantic ten foot long and around a foot wide. Yep, no trouble at all. Its scales were the same purple and blue like the crystals overhead, perfect camouflage. The monsters on this floor were in whole different ballgame to the previous floors.

It lunged again, so he tried the ‘teleport on its head to cut through its neck’ trick, but the snake like monster just twisted around several times at an accelerated pace. He hopped off after the second turn made his stomach flip flop with butterflies. It really had a thing for lunging as quickly as it could, because the snake wyrm tried the same thing again. This time he released a powerful [WIND BLADE] while jumping back. The attack cut through the monster’s jaw muscle, which left its mouth hanging wide open, but the attack barely made a dent into the armoured scales on either side of its head. Luckily, that didn’t matter as the part of the attack that had entered the monster’s mouth had cut at an upward angle through its throat and into its brain. The [WIND BLADE] didn’t exit out the other side of the head, due to its tough scales, but it had destroyed what was vital. For a moment, it still stayed poised over him for another strike, then it fell flat on the ground.
