Chapter 8 - Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body_Our God Was Just Bored

Yu Quan had spent enough time messing around; it was now time to begin cultivation. He thought it would be best if he didn’t show up to the academy as a complete newbie. He ventured into the Dragonwood Forest, looking for a secluded place to focus. He found a small clearing in a denser forest area and set up camp. Although he didn’t have anything to make the area too comfortable, he could move some leaves and stones around so he at least had a seat above the ground.

Yù Quán was still considered a mortal despite entering the first stage. To start the path of cultivation, he would first have to sense the energy of the Heavens. Yu Quan had asked around to learn the basics before leaving town. The Heavens could control the world through heavenly qi so that the natural laws of all things were in order and the dao was preserved. But, when it came to weaker beings, the pure qi of the Heavens was too strong for them to handle. So, the Heavens would use the world's power to dilute the pure heavenly qi. Heavenly qi was way too powerful, though, so it had to be diluted into several lesser forms so that the Heavens always had qi with the right amount of power for the job. The lowest form was heavenly energy, with little to no qi content. It was so diluted that the Heavens couldn’t even control it by itself and needed to have it surround a few wisps of a higher qi form.

Yù Quán closed his eyes and entered mediation. The [Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body] couldn’t tell him much about sensing the heavenly energy, only that it must be done. Yù Quán thought that sensing heavenly energy was likely the filter that separated those talented enough to cultivate from those who weren’t. While those with higher luck and potential would find it quickly, or maybe even instinctively, Yù Quán didn’t think he was much less than others when it came to these.

Yù Quán sat for a few hours before a sensation woke him out of his trance. He kept his eyes closed and remained meditating, assuming that what he felt must be heavenly energy. He looked for the feeling again. It wasn’t a physical or mental feeling, but something he felt in his soul. Like a wisp of an unknown force was passing through him. Yù Quán searched and searched but couldn’t find the feeling again. It was as if the energy had poked him as a tease, then ran away.

He returned to his meditative-like trance, thinking about what he had experienced the past day. He had transmigrated, bantered with a glorified computer, tried to help in a robbery that ended up being some type of secret mission, and got invited to an academy. So much had gone on, and it wasn’t even night yet. While going through the events, it hit him. The feeling had returned. This time, he was vigilant so as not to miss his chance but remained relaxed so he wasn’t distracted from the feeling. Besides the weird sensation that felt much stronger, he felt a chill down his spine, goosebumps, and his scalp tingling. Yù Quán was convinced he was beginning to sense its heavenly energy.

Yù Quán repeated this cycle for the rest of the night and into the morning. Feeling heavenly energy and losing it every time, the sensations grow stronger and stronger. However, as he grew accustomed to it, the sensations and the symptoms began to dull, while the amount of time he could sense the energy grew longer. By the afternoon, he continuously felt the energy with little symptoms.

“Good. I’ve finally entered the first realm.” Yu Quan sighed before looking at his information.

“Hmm, it seems my cultivation realm isn’t the only thing that determines how much information I can see. If it isn’t applicable, I won’t see it; like how I didn’t have any cultivation, so ‘Realm’ and ‘Stage’ weren’t visible.”

Yù Quán stood up and stretched. He wanted to take a little break before he had to get back to cultivating. He had lots of work ahead of him, but he wasn’t in so much of a rush just yet. Yù Quán went for a walk in the forest. The people of Blossom Falls rarely wandered as deep as he was, so he didn’t expect to meet anyone. He thought he would take a peaceful walk, gathering heavenly energy on the way.

Sensing the energy of the Heavens was just how you entered the first stage. He would have to open his twelve major meridians and his two centerline meridians to progress. A total of fourteen major meridians. All of them needed to be opened by gathering heavenly energy into them. This stage seemed simple, but learning to gather heavenly energy wasn’t easy, especially with no guidance. When he refined essence and eventually began generating qi with his core, he could control it naturally. No one he asked could tell him why controlling qi was easier, but he assumed it had something to do with it being made in your dantian. He even thought the soul or spirit might have been involved.

Yù Quán was walking and attempting to control the heavenly energy, but he couldn’t seem to figure it out. The [Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body] had its own unique method of gathering heavenly energy: using the eyes as the main passageway. This meant that instead of gathering heavenly energy into all meridian openings to speed things up, he would have to slowly open each meridian from the ones connected to the eyes down. The benefit, however, is that the eyes and their meridians would be strengthened from extended exposure to heavenly energy.

After walking throughout the afternoon, leading into the evening, he could just barely control heavenly energy. But, whenever he would try to have it enter the meridians connected to the eyes, he would feel pain.
