Chapter 56 - Passing the Time_Our God Was Just Bored

Yù Quán spent the better half of a week completing law enforcement missions. In a remarkably short time period, he had amassed a large amount of contribution to the town, so much so that many believed he was the most dedicated to Blossom Falls in decades. Even Yàn Lìqín was surprised with his efficiency and dedication. His plan should be completed as soon as possible, but this was faster than expected. Despite the reputation Yù Quán had built, it was purely for selfish reasons. Every law enforcement mission counted as a side mission in the system, earning him more and more points.

When there was little to do in between patrols, he began cultivating. Cultivating in the Skin Tempering stage was simple; one simply had to refine the skin by soaking it in his own qi. The [Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body] recommended continuing to use its techniques throughout the stage, as you could do both simultaneously and speed up the process, so that’s what Yù Quán did. He found it rough at first, but it quickly became easy to manage once he made some progress.

When he had enough points, it was finally time to do something that was long overdue. After leveling up the [Murder Mantra], [Yellow Qilin Dance], and [Qi Compression], he was ready to completely level up the [Star-Gazing Eyes]. He had felt that they were starting to get left behind compared to his other abilities, so he would bring them up to speed in one sitting.

After a series of level-up notifications from the system, Yù Quán looked at his information.

After reaching the last level, he was ready to check his updated stats. But just as he was about to look at the changes, another system notification grabbed his attention.

He looked at his points and saw there was enough, although he would be running himself dry again. After another few moments of thinking, Yù Quán shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t think there was a point in sitting and thinking about it. He would get more points in the future. When he hit ‘Yes’, the system did a little loading animation before showing him the result.

Before Yù Quán could wake up from shock and express his surprise and joy, he was met with excruciating pain. Yù Quán's eyes felt like they were melting, shifting, and changing shape and form as the transformation took place. It was as if every cell in his eyes were rearranging themselves, aligning with a new purpose and ability. The process was painful like needles being dragged across his eyeballs, but he knew it would be worth it for the new power he would gain. He couldn't see exactly what was happening, but he could feel the intense sensation of his eyes evolving into something greater.

When the evolution stopped, and the pain subsided, he finally took some time to understand the changes. First, 150% vision meant his vision was now 15m/6m, meaning he could see things 15 meters away as clearly as the average person could see something 6 meters away. Secondly, +100% darkvision meant that he could always see whether it was day or night. If he went based on the description of the [Starfire Eyes], it was likely that whatever divine master the eyes came from ended up having an epiphany while “seeing through” the stars. It was another helpful technique by itself; the stronger his yang, the stronger the technique. Leveling up [Sightburn] probably improved the heat conversion rate as well. But he hadn’t done much to improve his yang, as he wasn’t really a yin or yang-focused cultivator. Theoretically, something of yang could be converted back into it, but he would need a special method or a special understanding of the world’s laws. Yù Quán tried thinking of other sources of yang he could have, his face lighting up when he remembered his Murderous Flame.

He didn’t hesitate to try it. He practiced mustering up the heat of the Murderous Flame towards his eyes. As expected, he could feel the strange fire within him traveling up towards his eyes. When he opened his eyes after, Yù Quán could feel invisible waves of heat coming from his eyes. Everywhere he looked, the grass was immediately burned through. Now [Sightburn] was much more useful. He currently didn’t have enough strange fire to throw out attacks with. He could only coat himself in them and use them to empower his attacks. Now, he could directly attack with his strange fire. Adding the improved eyes on his body, including the Death-Dealing Dama eyes that would help him cultivate the [Murder Mantra], he would be able to steadily improve.

After exploring the extent of all of his improved techniques and attributes, he sat down and spent more time cultivating while waiting for Su Chunhua to find a solution for Rèn Chāngmíng’s need for healing techniques.

Su Chunhua headed to the secluded place where Yù Quán trained and cultivated. She had found a lead that almost felt god-sent. That lead was the younger girl walking beside her.

“When we get there, you will wait patiently outside while I ask for an audience with Mùlián. When he comes out, make sure to greet him properly and only speak when asked.”

The young girl nodded quickly. She was short, with long, light-ash brown hair and a round face. Su Chunhua made it to the area, and she saw that there was no one around, which meant that Yù Quán was in the cave. She walked to the outside of the cave, left the girl behind, and went into the cave. When she got to the opening in the cave, she felt the temperature jump. There were scorch marks on the walls and floor of the cave, and there was a heavy feeling in the air. Su Chunhua wasn’t a cultivator, so she couldn’t feel what qi felt like. However, the amount of ambient qi surrounding Yù Quán was bound to have some effect on the environment.

Su Chunhua braced herself and pushed towards the center of the cave, where she found a shirtless and sweaty Yù Quán sitting on the ground. His legs were in lotus, but he seemed to be resting. Yù Quán sensed Su Chunhua and opened an eye to look at her.

Seeing her confused face, he closed his eyes and let out a laugh and a sigh. “3rd level, Skin Tempering stage.”

Su Chunhua nodded. She didn’t know how long or difficult it was, but she knew Yù Quán was special, so it was likely some type of achievement.

“Get cleaned up and come outside in your robes. I have someone who might be able to help us get our hands on some healing techniques.”
