Yù Quán had been traveling for a few days, according to a map he got from one of the cult’s businesses. And in just a few days, his point spending addiction flared up. He had had a decently sized reserve, but now he was getting low. But, [Qi Compression] was at level 4, meaning his attacks could be around 80% solidified. He also leveled up the Mumulian techniques and the [Murder Mantra] in anticipation of the death-dealing dama eyes. Although he had lost so many points, he felt better about how prepared he was for his goal. He was secure in his plan but now insecure in his funds. By now, he was too far from Blossom Hills and way too far from the Laiyuandao region. Without wasting any more time, his only chance was to locate something nearby to help him achieve his objectives or the academy in some other way.
Yù Quán hadn’t received a mission in a while. He still had his main quest given to him when he first transmigrated. But other than that, it had been pretty barren since Yu Quan completed the quest to make Yan Liqin’s Eccentric branch the best one, which was easier than he thought it would be. Since then, he has been forced to do sect missions or find secret missions. Overall, it didn't throw the dog too many bones for a system that was supposed to be a cheat code in an unknown word. Thinking of this led Yù Quán to wonder why the system was based on points in the first place and if it would be so hard to obtain them. He thought there might be a significant system update since he hadn’t seen one in quite a while.
Before Yù Quán could continue down this line of thought, he saw a village peak from behind the hill he was walking by. Yù Quán smiled; he might have found a chance to get some points. Although he likely wouldn’t be able to get many, he would take anything he could get at this point. With the size of the village, there were bound to be some opportunities. The village, as if matching the exaggerated size of towns, was as big as a town would be in Yù Quán’s world. It didn’t seem to be a tribal village, as the building styles used were considered modern in Murim. But, the materials were pretty crude compared to Blossom Hills. Yù Quán entered the village. Seeing no notification from the system, he guessed the village would not be necessary for the main quest. However, Yù Quán didn’t let that discourage him. There were many other ways to find secret missions.
Around 100m behind Yù Quán was a group of men carefully walking forward. There were six of them, all wearing various colored robes from different sects but carrying similar appearances.
“Was that really Senior Representative Yù Quán?” one asked.
The one standing in front, peaking from behind the hill Yù Quán had just passed, nodded.
“That’s definitely him. I was there at the Blossom Tournament.”
The man turned around from the hill and looked at those surrounding him. “Elder Guoliang ordered us to follow him and take care of him once we were far enough from town.”
“Isn’t he supposed to be strong?”
The man looked back towards the village. “Yes, which is why he had six cultivators in the late Bone Tempering stage. How strong can a Skin Tempering cultivator really be?”
The six men nodded before heading towards the village.
…
Yù Quán had gone through the entire town and couldn’t find any missions. He tried all his known methods, even forcefully helping people, but it was useless. He wasn’t too disappointed, though. Seeing this was such a remote village, he didn't expect much. He enjoyed his time there since he had already come to the village. He had no money, so he sat on a rock, watching people go about their day. He didn’t mind taking a break like this but realized that he had never thought much about the world's economy. He had used the currency of Murim a couple of times, but he had barely scratched the surface.
From what he knew, mortals used their own currency, which was familiar to them. But, what was typical for cultivators to use were qi-stones. They were pretty much your average qi-stone from other web novels, except Yù Quán didn’t know the backstory behind them in this world. He only knew that since history was recorded, cultivators had used them to buy, barter, and cultivate. What was interesting was that qi-stones were apparently used by mortals, too. However, they were much rarer, which meant they treated them as rarer and more valuable. Yù Quán didn’t understand this, though. How could it be fair? Many mortals were stuck as mortals and didn’t have a choice about whether they could cultivate. Why create such a financial disparity for themselves?
As Yù Quán was contemplating Murim’s currency system, a sudden scream, followed by a loud voice, drew his attention.
“Yù Quán! We know you’re here. Since we can’t find you, we can only make you come to us!”
Yù Quán stood up, grabbed his things, and walked toward the commotion. A few streets down, Yù Quán found six men standing in the middle of the road. One stood in the middle, holding what looked like one of the citizens of the village with a sword to her throat. The other five men surrounded him, seemingly ready to fight.

Yù Quán sighed. “Hēi family…”
Having not seen Yù Quán yet, the man continued yelling. “If Yù Quán doesn’t appear, I’ll kill this woman, and every other person in this village until he does!”
Jia Xiaobo had lived in the village for his entire life. From a young age, he fell in love with Duàn Jingfei, his childhood friend. After years, he finally mustered up the courage to ask her to go on a date, walking through the village and shopping together. When she said yes, it was like he was soaring through the clouds. He was practically counting down the seconds until the next day. And that time had finally come. Who would’ve known such a thing would happen? Now, the love of his life was being held by a group of cultivators, and he, a mortal, could do nothing about it. He didn’t even know who this Yù Quán guy was, but he knew he couldn’t just sit there. Even if there was nothing he could do, the woman he loved was in danger. He had to do something. He took a deep breath and took his first step towards the men. Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Although he would’ve stopped out of shock, either way, he felt that he couldn’t move forward at all.
“Don’t worry about it. Stand back and watch.”
Jia Xiaobo was beyond confused. Only when the man holding Duàn Jingfei spoke again did he realize what had just happened.
“Ha! So you choose to show up?”
Yù Quán walked towards them. Hēi Yongnian, the one holding the hostage, thought Yù Quán would be scared of confronting the six of them. But as Yù Quán closed in, he saw that that was far from the case. In fact, Yù Quán seemed to be more irritated than anything.
Hēi Yongnian scoffed. “I commend your courage. But will you be so unfazed knowing we’re all in the late Bone Tempering stage?”
Yù Quán’s eyes narrowed. If his statement were true, it would likely be a bit more complicated than he initially thought. Yù Quán secretly complained, asking why he could never enjoy a day off.
Hēi Yongnian smiled. “Whatever, you have eyes but can’t see. Get him!”
Yù Quán was facing three of the men, with the other two on the other side of Hēi Yongnian. The three men laughed and walked towards Yù Quán. Seeing this, Yù Quán stopped.
“You know…” he started, causing all the men to stop briefly. “I’ve been wanting to try my strength against late Bone Tempering stage cultivators since I’ve improved so much.”
Before any of the men could utter a word of ridicule, Yù Quán threw three punches, which sent an 80% qi compressed fist light at each man in front of him.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
None of them could react. All three of them were knocked off their feet with broken bones wherever the fist lights landed. Hēi Yongnian watched as three fist lights, more solid than any qi condensed attack he had ever seen, took out three of the late Bone Tempering stage cultivators he was so confident in. Before he could react, Yù Quán used the [Yellow Qilin Dance] forward to pounce on Hēi Yongnian. As he advanced, he condensed a ball of qi around his fist and threw it out right as he reached Hēi Yongnian.
Bang!
Hēi Yongnian fell back just as his allies did, with noticeably more damage to his face.
Yù Quán stopped to make sure the hostage was okay, then looked to the remaining two, who were frozen in fear. “Take your people and tell the Hēi family in Blossom Hills I’ll deal with them when I’m back.”
The two Hēi men looked at each other. How could they hesitate? They ran, grabbed their allies, and carried them out of the village. Yù Quán watched them leave and then turned to the crowd of villagers watching. All eyes were on him, but they were dead silent. Yù Quán didn’t know what to do, so he cupped his hands, bowed, and said, “Apologies for the disturbance.”
There was a moment of silence, and the crowd erupted, cheering for Yù Quán. The girl who had been taken hostage walked up with the mortal man, whom he stopped from getting involved, holding each other in their arms.
“Thank you, master cultivator. Thank you for saving my Duàn Jingfei!”
Before Yù Quán could respond, the girl punched the man in the arm. “Who is yours? We haven’t even finished our first date.”
Jia Xiaobo scratched the back of his head. “Shush! You’re embarrassing me in front of the cultivator.”
Yù Quán couldn’t help but laugh. He liked mortals. They reminded him of life back on Earth.
