Chapter 40 - Prepare to Win_Our God Was Just Bored

Yù Quán was stunned. Wasn’t Yàn Lìqín asking him too much? Wasn’t Wū Shòu and Tiān Zhēbì still there? And that was only from other sects. His senior brother and sister were still in the competition, and he was sure he couldn’t beat them.

“I understand it sounds impossible. But, after seeing your power and the speed at which you grow, I made a plan.”

“That doesn’t explain how I’m going to beat any of those people.”

Yàn Lìqín smiled and shook his head. “Don’t worry, I’ve run through all the possibilities. Just take these and do your best.”

Yàn Lìqín took out a pouch and handed it to Yù Quán. Yù Quán opened it, and four sets of eyes were there. Yù Quán was surprised. Was Yàn Lìqín such a spoiler? As if to read his mind, Yàn Lìqín waved his hand.

“This is the last gift I’ll give you until you reach the Foundation Laying realm. Too many good things isn’t good for you.”

Yù Quán nodded. He knew this concept from the Xianxia novels he read. Cultivators who received too many good things started relying on them, then weren’t strong enough when they couldn’t use them. He took the bag and left the arena, back to his secluded plains area from before the tournament started. He now had several pairs of eyes and dozens of points. It was time to get stronger.

First, he looked at what he could upgrade. He thought about the [Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body] since he was about to refine his body, but he would use all of his points and didn’t want to run out just yet. He saw his boar eyes that could have evolved. He didn’t evolve them before because he didn’t have enough points and didn’t think it was necessary. But what Yàn Lìqín was asking of him wasn’t a small task. Any power was helpful at the moment.

Yù Quán didn’t hesitate and quickly pressed the ‘Yes’ button. An animation on the system played. Yù Quán was curious to see what would happen since this was the system’s influence and not something the [Stolen-eyed Mùmùlián Body] could initially do. Would they just turn into four-finned boar eyes? It made sense, but he didn’t think so. Wouldn’t they still just be aggression eyes, then? This didn’t seem like the system’s style. When the animation finished, a few lines of text appeared on the screen.

Yù Quán was excited. The eyes evolving in this way implied a few things. One, separate renditions of the same species don’t count as evolutions, like how the eyes didn't evolve into four-finned eyes. Two, the system likely chose a species stronger but similar to the original one, with the boar evolving into a type of hog. Lastly, it was possible for the behavior that was emitted to evolve, as well, but Yù Quán didn’t know if the behavior was evolving or if the behavior just changed because the species the eyes had evolved into had a different behavior.

“Ferocity should be a level above aggression. If the species is stronger overall, these eyes could be very useful.”

Yù Quán was satisfied with this. He thought the power of the eyes could be very useful; he just needed opportunities to get strong eyes. He would get a chance to try his new eyes later, but now he had to get to work on refining the eyes Yàn Lìqín gave him.

Yù Quán had been meditating for some time when he felt the last portion of flesh and muscle fit into place. He let out a sigh of relief. Refining the body was exhausting, and he had just done it non-stop. Yàn Lìqín had given him four sets of eyes; two were from beasts he had already gotten from him before: the Blue Wolf and the Winged Watcher. Yù Quán felt these were likely to be common beasts, so their eyes were easy to find and would explain why he got them from Yàn Lìqín twice. After some testing on random passersby, he found that, for some reason, the Maned Hog's eyes were stronger. He guessed this could have something to do with the actual beasts themselves, but he couldn’t know for sure. Knowing this, he decided to send all the Blue Wolf eyes to his core, along with all the aggression eyes, since aggression was likely to be weaker than ferocity, and one set of Winged Watcher eyes, since he only needed one.

This left him with the Maned Hog eyes, the Winged Watcher and False Dragon eyes he had received from Yàn Lìqín before, and two new pairs he had gotten from him now. They were both from the same beast, a Death-Dealing Dama. Just the name alone sounded dangerous, and it was likely Yàn Lìqín was staking a lot on this plan because they probably weren’t cheap either.

He didn’t feel the eyes were important for raising his qi, which would likely come from destroying and refining them inside of the core. It was likely to help with the qi sight that he had. He closed his eyes and saw that the range of his qi sight now reached thirty-two meters, twenty-four meters more than he could before.

“Now, this might actually be useful. Hopefully, I can find a time when I can spare some points to level up my [Star Gazing Eyes]. They are now the only thing I have that still aren’t that useful.”

Next, he looked into the Death-Dealing Dama eyes. They were called ‘Killing’ eyes, but he didn’t quite understand. They were just supposed to emit pressure, but they sounded more like an attack. He decided to try them out, but he wouldn’t do it on a person or a beast just in case it was lethal.

Yù Quán focused on the two sets of Dama eyes, and they began emitting their pressure. But, the pressure they emitted felt familiar to Yù Quán; he had experience with something like this.

“Killing intent?”

Despite making more sense than what would basically amount to a death ray, it still surprised Yù Quán. Killing intent was something gained through the taking of many lives. Yù Quán had only killed a few beasts, so his intent wasn’t strong enough to be used for anything. This was why Yù Quán was thankful for the [Murder Mantra]. It allowed him to convert his little killing intent into something hundreds of times more useful.

While thinking down this line of thought, Yù Quán had an idea. What if he could use the killing intent these emitted to cultivate the [Murder Manta]? He immediately sat in lotus and tried converting the intent while it was being emitted. After a moment, Yù Quán felt a wisp of killing intent enter his body, convert to a wisp of Murderous Flame, and join the strange fire he held inside of him.

Yù Quán was ecstatic. This would help him reach leaps and bounds in his strength. He could basically cultivate the [Murder Mantra] until the eyes couldn’t give enough killing intent to make any real difference in the technique. He had made his decision: he would continue to work on the [Murder Mantra] until Yàn Lìqín came and got him for his next fight.
