Chapter 59 - Qin Daiyu

Chapter 59 - Qin Daiyu

After cleaning up and making sure everyone was well, Yù Quán led everybody back to the cult grounds, ensuring no one was around to spot or follow them. He went back and announced the success to the whole cult. He hoped to build their morale and loyalty by showing that their force had potential, but it worked a little too well. The people of the cult roared. Jumping, dancing, and throwing their hands into the air. Yù Quán thought it was but a small achievement, but he didn’t realize just how effective Su Chunhua’s story was. He didn’t know what he would do with followers who had such fervor and zeal. When he was able to get a moment alone with Su Chunhua and Rèn Chāngmíng, he explained what had happened.

“How trivial!” Rèn Chāngmíng laughed. “I could have handled such a mission.”

Su Chunhua shrugged. “How could we have known? If it were someone stronger than Yù Quán, would you be able to handle it?”

Rèn Chāngmíng coughed and stopped laughing. Then he said shyly, “Maybe not.”

Yù Quán laughed at this scene. He liked to see them all getting along. “For now, I’m unlikely to beat anyone in the higher levels of the Bone Tempering stage. As for anyone below the Bone Tempering stage, I don’t think they can beat me without special methods.”

Seeing Su Chunhua’s confused face, Yù Quán gave a basic explanation of the stages in the Body Tempering realm. Hearing that Yù Quán goes past anyone in his stage and the stage above him to fight on par with the people in the Bone Tempering stage was surreal.

Yù Quán then took all the healing techniques he had in the archive and deduced the low-level ones so that even the worst of their healing techniques were at least high in quality. Since he didn’t need to make techniques for stronger cultivators, nor high quality ones, it didn’t cost him too many points. After he had all the techniques ready, he threw his hood back over his head and sent Su Chunhua to go and bring Qin Daiyu.

“Greetings, Mùlián,” Qin Daiyu said. She was surprisingly calm and firm in her speech, something she wasn’t able to achieve just yesterday.

Yù Quán was surprised but didn’t react. It's not like they would be able to see it even if he did.

“Rise,” Yù Quán started. “Qin Daiyu, you showed exceptional courage today and were the sole reason we could even plan such a mission. After hearing of your background and seeing your character, I see great potential in you. Due to this, I want to recommend you as the School of Combat’s first Head Scholar.”

Hearing this, Qin Daiyu’s composure dropped. Although she wasn’t afraid around Yù Quán or the keepers any longer, she wasn’t immune to emotion. She thought herself to be low in the hierarchy, even expendable. She didn’t expect the mission to end with her rising the ranks. Qin Daiyu looked at Su Chunhua and Rèn Chāngmíng, whom she was seeing for the first time. Seeing their calm and soft expressions, she knew that they weren’t surprised and had already known of this.

Yù Quán continued, “It is just a recommendation. Keeper Ren is not being ordered to accept you, nor are you being ordered to accept the position. While my word comes with weight, the decision is still his and yours alone.”

Ren Changing looked at Qin Daiyu and nodded. “I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to contest. Even I would have to learn to heal from nothing. If I must choose a Head Scholar, they should at least be someone with potential.”

“If you wish not to have the responsibility, you can always be useful elsewhere. Regardless of what you choose, you are a disciple from today on.”

Qin Daiyu didn’t know what to do or say. But what she did know was that this was an opportunity. Not just for power and achievement but to get closer to Mùlián, the man she admired most. How could she refuse when her wish was to one day stand beside him as an ally? Her face went from being in awe to being filled with determination.

“I’ll do it!”

Yù Quán, Rèn Chāngmíng, and Su Chunhua all smiled. This is exactly the type of person they wanted following them.

“Good! You shall follow Keeper Ren from now on. Keeper Ren, mold her well.”

Both Rèn Chāngmíng and Qin Daiyu cupped their hands and bowed, saying almost simultaneously, “Yes, Mùlián!” before they left. Su Chunhua stayed for a bit longer to go over some things with Yù Quán before taking her leave as well.

“Finally… some peace.”

Yù Quán opened his system and went back to one of the techniques he had just deduced for healing. Something had caught his eye, but he didn’t think it was best to give Qin Daiyu and the new Library of Support.

[Primitive Qi-Spirit Remedy Method]

N/A

Low-Quality Mortal Tier

The first technique formulated from the idea of healing the nonphysical. Through the improvement and evolution of this method, cultivators learned to heal the qi-spirit system. Although a failure, this technique is the ancestor of all modern healing techniques.

Heal nonphysical ailments and injuries throughout the body and qi-spirit.

Caution: This method was created with an understanding of the way of death alone. Due to this, the qi-spirit is healed, but the affected areas are undead in nature and can infect the rest of the qi-spirit.

Can be learned.

Yù Quán inspected the technique closely. Most would see it as trash or useless, but he had a system, and he knew the system often found interesting arts to reward him when deducing. It was such a low-quality technique; why not just deduce it? There couldn’t be any harm. At least, that was what he thought until he saw it would cost 140 points to deduce the technique. At first, he was completely turned off. But then he thought for a second. Didn’t this mean he was only 140 points away from an overpowered technique? Why not invest in it? After enough excuses to convince himself that he didn’t have a spending issue, he went ahead with the deduction.

[Sǐshēng Slave Scripture]

Foundation Laying - ???

High-Quality God Tier

The roots of necromancy derived from the roots of healing. An evil cultivator obsessed with power created this technique that takes advantage of the side effects of its predecessor.

Slowly circulate destructive qi through a being, destroy the qi-spirit, then revive them as an enslaved necroshade

Cannot be learned.

“…”

Yù Quán didn’t know how to respond. How shameless was the creator of this technique to take an attempt at saving lives and create a way to take them? Out of sheer curiosity, Yù Quán read into the technique. It was truly vile. It required forcing your qi through the subject meridians to reach the dantian, then attacking the "qi-spirit," which seemed to be all the nonphysical organs that were involved in cultivation. Then, the technique used the death of the subject to create death energy, which was used to recreate everything damaged as undead with an enslavement seal within it. This created some type of creature called a necroshade that was your slave.

“…Let’s try deducing it again.”
