CHAPTER 408
Chapter 408 Major Projects.
Clarissa didn’t put Caleb’s flattery to heart.
Since there was still some time before the semester started, Clarissa spent her days reading books in
her small apartment. She also thought about contributing a few articles to her university’s journal. That,
and she planned to pay Chanel a visit soon.
Chanel also lived inside the university, though in a different dormitory. She lived at one of the staff
dormitories called Indigo Hall.
They didn’t treat their meeting as a grand occasion, and agreed to meet at the school’s restaurant only.
Chanel couldn’t help but feel surprised when she saw Clarissa once again. Today, Clarissa was
wearing a blue T–shirt paired with a pair of white shorts. Although her attire was simple, the quality of
her clothes was still top–notch, and that reflected Clarissa’s unique sense of style.
Clarissa had been paying attention to the quality of her clothes ever since she went overseas. Though Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
there weren’t a lot of clothes in her wardrobe, each and every one of them was still of high quality.
“Clarissa! It’s been three years since I last saw you in person.” Chanel greeted her warmly.
“If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be working in Florin right now.”
“I only passed on your name to the higher–ups. You got the job because you have the right credentials.
So, what are you up to these days?”
The restaurant was breezy with air–conditioning, which blocked out the heat of the raging sun outside.
“I’ve been writing a few articles lately to publish. I’m also thinking of visiting Eden Investment
Corporation. They’re offering me a job as an independent director at their company. I’m quite interested
in the post, so I’m thinking of heading there to discuss the terms with them,” Clarissa said with a calm
and collected demeanor. She exuded the vibes of a professional businesswoman passionate about
pursuing her career.
Looking at her, Chanel was deeply ensnared by Clarissa’s irresistible charisma.
“I heard the pay of an independent director is quite high. If you get the job, I bet there’ll be lines and
lines of men trying to pursue your love. I mean, look at you! You’re a walking magnet!” Chanel
complimented as she appraised Clarissa’s appearance. “Jokes aside, I think you have to manage your
time wisely if you’re going to work three jobs at the same time. Not only do you have to lead and plan
classes, but you also have to supervise postgraduate students. On top of that, you’re going to work
part–time as an independent director. Don’t bite off more than you can chew, okay?”
“Thanks for the reminder, Chanel. By the way, why are you still living on school grounds?” Normally,
married women would have opted for houses outside. A small apartment couldn’t possibly fit a family.
Upon hearing that question, Chanel’s complexion changed.
Instantly, Clarissa knew she had asked the wrong question.
“Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need help with anything, okay?” Clarissa said eagerly, trying to
change the topic.
“Alright, thanks,” Chanel said reluctantly.
After her meeting, Clarissa contacted the HR department of Eden Investment Corporation and they
assigned an interview date for her.
“Miss Johnson, we’re more than happy to welcome you to Eden Investment Corporation. To be frank,
given your outstanding credentials, you don’t even have to go through the interview process. Having a
Ph.D from the University of Emmeria as our employee would undoubtedly raise our reputation in the
investment industry as well. Our boss is more than happy to welcome you into our team,” the HR
director complimented generously.
“Thank you.”
The next day, Clarissa arrived at Eden Investment Corporation.
The company comprised several massive buildings, and was located right in the city center.
Charles Benson waited at the entrance to welcome Clarissa personally. He was deeply impressed by
Clarissa’s disposition and knowledge. Until today, he still couldn’t forget their fateful meeting at the
University of Emmeria.
Clarissa was happy to be received with open arms at Eden Investment Corporation.
At first, Charles had planned to discuss with her some recent projects the company had taken on. But
due to issues relating to confidentiality, he held back.
Clarissa examined the contract thoroughly. Eden Investment Corporation had offered a yearly pay of
100k. The main job scope was to be in charge of major projects of the company, but she didn’t have to
be stationed in the office every day. At the end of the year, she would receive her yearly bonus.
Looking at the word ‘major projects‘, she felt a heavy sense of responsibility thrust upon her.
For the first time in her life, she had finally reaped the benefits of pursuing academic qualifications!
Though she felt burdened, she was still happy to have finally realized the promise she made to her late
mother, Theresa.
