CHAPTER 126
Chapter 126 You’ve Been Looking For Me? On her way back to the office, Clarissa saw construction
work going on in the lobby. It seemed like the pillar next to the door was broken.
She and Lily parted ways and returned to their respective offices.
The audit department was situated at the top floor. Everyone there seemed uninterested in petty
gossip, so Clarissa had no idea if Damien even came to work or not.
In the afternoon, Clarissa made plans with Lily to go shopping, hoping that Madelynn was still busy with
work.
She and Lily went back to the same shopping mall, but Madelynn was nowhere to be seen.
Clarissa was somewhat disappointed, but she also felt uneasy.
“Why can’t you just text him and ask where he is?” Lily asked. “What’s the point of doing all this?”
“No.” Clarissa responded firmly, but her eyes were teary.
They went back to the same shop that sold the sandalwood soap after that, only to learn that all were
sold out.
The owner said that they were restocking, but the new soaps were still on the way.
Ever since Madelynn started using this soap, Clarissa didn’t want to use it anymore. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Oh, right! It was Miss Madelynn’s assistant who bought all the sandalwood soaps. I think Miss
Madelynn’s nearby.” The owner’s voice was filled with excitement. Never did he expect a celebrity to
buy products from him!
“Her?” Clarissa wondered if Madelynn got the soaps from this shop, just like her.
Her gut feeling told her there was something more to this, but she couldn’t figure out just what it was.
Damien wasn’t at home either when she arrived at the mansion.
Clarissa wasn’t able to sleep the entire night. Perhaps because Damien wasn’t there, the bed felt cold
to her.
To her surprise, she saw Damien during lunchtime in the company the very next day.
She had just returned from lunch with Lily when she saw Damien talking to Howard by the entrance,
right below the construction work.
Damien had his left hand buried in his pants pocket. As he glanced at the entrance, he spotted Clarissa
staring at him.
The next second, he turned around and continued what he was doing. He acted as if he didnt see her
at all.
“Mr. Lawrence, I transferred Clarissa to the audit department and fired Nicole. I planned to recruit a few
more people to make up for their absence. What do you think?” Howard asked Lawrence.
In all honesty, there was no need for Howard to refer to Damien in regards to recruitment. He only
wanted to let Damien know that he had fired Nicole.
“There’s no need to rush.” Damien said. While he talked to Howard, he constantly shot discreet glances
in Clarissa’s direction.
“No need to rush?” Howard was puzzled.
Previously, Damien had never involved himself in recruitment.
Immediately, Howard realized something was off.
“Isn’t that the husband you’ve been looking for? You finally found him.” Lily poked Clarissa’s arm.” Why
aren’t you going to him?”
“None of your business!” Clarissa stomped into the elevator with a huff, ignoring Damien.
Just then, the construction worker who was climbing on the pillar slipped. The pillar began to crumble
and fall.
Howard was facing the pillar and had seen it falling towards them, but he remained motionless and
stayed frozen on the spot.
As for Damien, his back was facing the pillar. Thus, he wasn’t aware of what was taking place.
Clarissa immediately shouted, “Be careful!”
She dashed in Damien’s direction as quickly as she could. Her efforts rewarded her, for she managed
to push Damien out of the way. Unfortunately, the pillar fell on her instead.
There was a loud bang as her head collided painfully with the floor. She looked at Damien, making sure
that he was okay, before slipping into unconsciousness a second later.
“Clarissa!” Damien yelled, horrified.
“Clarissa!” Lily shouted as well, just as alarmed.
Howard was panicking as well. After all, he was the one who wanted to talk to Damien at this very spot.
Now that such a terrible accident had befallen Clarissa, would that mean he was responsible for it?
Without hesitation, he called the ambulance. Moments later, Clarissa was carted to the hospital.
When Clarissa regained consciousness, it was around two in the evening. Damien was sitting by her
bed.
She glanced at Damien for a brief while before turning her head the opposite way.
Damien, realizing Clarissa had awoken, quickly called for the doctor.
“The patient is fine, but you can only discharge her after a few days,” the doctor said.
“Alright.”
After the doctor left, the room fell into pin-drop silence. After some time, Damien was the first to speak.
“I heard you’ve been looking for me?”
