poor thing was stillborn.
“Don’t cry, Clarissa… It won’t be good for your eyes. Look on the bright side! You have a son now. It’s
you and President Lawrence’s son.” Bethany comforted Clarissa by patting her on the shoulder
“Okay…” Clarissa sat on the bed and nodded weakly to Bethany. She hugged her knees tightly, but her
tears just wouldn’t stop.
Bethany was no stranger to life and death, but she was heartbroken to see her old classmate in such a
terrible state. She still had work to do and needed to check on other patients, so she asked Damien to
take care of her
Clarissa didn’t blame Damien for keeping the bad news from her. After all, he was also the child’s
father. He probably found it unbearable and difficult to accept, but he was more frightened of Clarissa’s
grief. “Don’t cry. We can have another baby later,” Damien told Clarissa. Then, he moved forward and
hugged her.
What made Clarissa cry was Bethany’s explanation. Bethany said the baby boy took away his sister’s
nutrition, which caused a developinent delay. Clarissa still hadn’t met the baby boy yet, but she hated
him already. It wasn’t the baby boy’s fault, but the baby girl’s stillborn remained a hard fact.
People said siblings would love each other. Meanwhile, her baby son Neil took all his sister’s nutrients
because he was afraid he did not have enough to eat.
It wasn’t the baby boy’s fault, but Clarissa couldn’t help but blame him for the baby girl’s death
She had a baby boy, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the baby girl’s death. Besides, Clarissa hadn’t
met the baby boy before, so she wasn’t emotionally connected to him yet.
Clarissa didn’t want to see Neil. She feared he would remind her of her baby girl’s death whenever she
saw him
Even so, the day for the baby boy Neil to come out of his incubator had arrived. On that day, Mrs.
Faber brought the baby boy to her.
The baby boy that was born wrinkled was now chubby and lovable
Damien liked his son a lot.
Clarissa only gave a cursory glance. She didn’t have to breastfeed the baby, and it felt as if he wasn’t
hers.
“Clarissa, he’s your son. Don’t you like him?” Mrs. Faber asked Clarissa.
“I like him,” Clarissa said. She leared Mrs. Faber would find her cruel if she said otherwise. In truth, she
didn’t like the child that much.
She did not like it from the start. Therefore, it would be hard for her to be fond of her son later.
Joseph and Rebecca came to visit Clarissa. When Joseph arrived, Damien ignored him and
looked away. Anyone with common sense wouldn’t talk about the dead baby in front of Clarissa. They
only praised the baby boy, praising his good traits. “What a handsome little boy! Have you named him
yet?” Rebecca asked Clarissa, trying to ease the awkwardness in the room. “Is his name Neil?”
Clarissa looked at Damien for confirination.
“Yes. Neil Lawrence.” Damien added the family name. “That’s a great name. Did President Lawrence
name him?” Rebecca wittily complimented Damien indirectly. “Yes, he did. Initially…” Clarissa wanted
to say she preferred the name Ash, but when she thought of the stillborn, her heart felt cold. She
stopped her sentence midway, and didn’t want to continue. After so many family member’s deaths
around her, she was no longer the happy girl who had just lest school. Joseph noticed the sudden
gloom in Clarissa’s darkened gaze. He asked her, “What’s wrong, Clarissa?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Clarissa managed a smile, but she could barely hide the depression in her smile
“Get well soon, Clarissa.” Joseph could sense Clarissa’s unhappiness and comforted her.
“Yeah,” Clarissa answered Joseph and Rebecca gave Clarissa a big gift before they left. Those from
the New East Corporation didn’t show up. Ray wanted to drop by and see the newborn baby and the
new mother at first, but Damien stopped him. “Don’t.”
He showed no joy at all. It was as if there was no happiness in having a newborn. For once, Ray
stopped teasing Damien. He only gave Damien a gift as a courtesy. The other executives in the higher
management all followed Ray’s example and did the same
Still, their top executive had a newborn in the family. It was great news!
