Chapter 486 Why Me?

CHAPTER 486 WHY ME?

Clarissa went to wash up. At the staircase, she could see some people carrying boxes. Damien was

sitting on the sofa.

“Put them in the car,” Damien ordered.

“Oh, Mr. Lawrence! You’re so nice to Madam. You even bought all these snacks for her!” Mrs. Faber

gushed. In truth, she felt rather awkward over the fact that her son was in love with Clarissa.

Damien lifted his head, and his eyes met Clarissa’s.

“She doesn’t appreciate it,” Damien mumbled, turning away quickly.

“Madam has been away for three years, so she must have changed. The changes aren’t very big, but

you still need to be understanding.” Mrs. Faber tried to explain.

“Do I have to?” Damien looked at Clarissa again, sullen.

At that moment, Damien was filled with regret and jealousy.

He wasn’t with Clarissa during her worst days. Instead, another man grabbed the chance and stayed

by her side.

But just like what Mrs. Faber said, people change. Before, he would have his way Clarissa and

tormented her regardless of anything. Now, he held himself back. Content provided by .

Before Clarissa could say anything, Neil ran toward her and hugged her leg.

“Mommy! Daddy’s so nice to you, he bought two boxes of apples for you. Didn’t I tell you that daddy’s

rich, and that you’ll be happy with him?” Neil said.

Clarissa couldn’t help but laugh. She patted his head and cooed, “Mommy’s going to work now. Make

sure you listen to your daddy, okay? Be a good boy.”

“I am a good boy!” Neil reassured her.

“Don’t lie,” Clarissa warned.

“Why would I? Daddy said my nose would grow long if I did!”

Neil’s reply reminded Clarissa of what Damien used to say to her.

And now, he was saying the same thing to their son.

“I’ll leave now,” Clarissa said.

“The driver’s waiting for you. Have him carry the things for you. You can’t carry them by yourself.”

“Okay.” For some reason, Clarissa felt butterflies in her stomach. His actions reminded her of their

bygone past together.

If he never did all of those heinous crimes, he would’ve been a good husband.

Well, at least for the time being, he sounded like a caring one.

“Mommy, when are you coming back to see me?” Neil asked in a tone of melancholy.

Clarissa wanted to bring Neil with her to Florin, but she feared Iris would hurt him. Anyway, he would be

much safer with Damien.

She bent down to face him and said, “If you miss me, then come visit me in Florin. Make sure only your

dad sends you to me, okay?”

“Why me? Why not others?” Damien asked abruptly, grabbing Clarissa’s hand.

“You’re his dad. He’ll be the safest with you.”

Damien wanted to hear something else from Clarissa, but it seemed she truly won’t forgive him. She

was no longer that innocent girl from years ago who only wanted to cure her mother’s illness.
