Chapter 31: Successful Acquisition

"Alex we got a problem?" those were the first word Jeff said entering into Alex's office.

Alex raised his eyes signaling Jeff to explain.

"You wanted the movie rights for Stephen King novel 'The Body' right?"

"What happened then?"

"Well, other studios got the wind of the news and they sent their representatives to buy the rights."

"Why's that ?" Alex was curios.

Jeff looked at Alex surprise "Alex, you  know your reputation right? 'The boy that never loses'. That's the title they have given you. If you are interested in a script then that means that it's a sure success and everyone believes that until you face a disaster."

"Well, then it's going to be a bother." Alex said in a bored voice. He's not worried if not this film then other he's not short of scripts anyway."What's the word from Stephen King."

Jeff's face filled with smile at that question. "Stephen King put a condition that made studios want to slap their own faces."

Alex's interest piqued "What's the condition ?"

"Stephen want you to play the leader of the gang and that's non-negotiable." Jeff said taking pleasure in other's misfortunes.

Alex was somewhat surprised. Though that was the role Alex would have chosen he didn't think that somebody agreed with his decision because this role far removed from Alex's previous roles and image.

"Alex what do you want to do."

Jeff had confidence in the Alex's decision. That is the loyalty that brought by witnessing the impossible feats done by Alex.

Alex thought for a moment and said "I owe a favour to someone."

Steve's assistant informed him that Alex was on the line. Steve was surprised and took the call."Hello Alex, what's the matter?"

"Does Warner Bros. are ready to cash their favour." Alex dove straight into the topic.

Steve can imagine what's it about. He heard about the studios competing for the rights of Stephen King's book because Alex favoured it and Stephen's condition.

"I will contact Terry Semel and inform you." Steve completed the call and immediately dialed Terry.

Terry Semel was the president and COO of the Warner Bros. Terry Semel was the one who decided to cast Tom as the lead in exchange for the favour from Alex.

When Terry received the call from Steve about Alex's returning the favour, Terry knew that he made the right choice.

The next day the other studios got the news that Alex and Warner Bros. are going to co-operate. So, they withdrew from the competition.
