Jaid took it hesitatingly and was shocked at the amount written on it. $60,000 . It was enough for a family of five live comfortably in 2010s. Alex knew Jaid was struggling with her decision but he knew she will take the check because he knew human nature.
Jaid came to L.A. to become a star but at 23 she became a mother to a daughter with an absent husband. She worked as a waitress until Drew started acting. Jaid was not a good mother and not the worse mother either just a selfish mother. She wanted live her dreams through her daughter but it will never be enough.
A 10 days paid vacation was too tempting offer to reject. Jaid agreed to the arrangement but Alex told her to tell Drew that she was going to visit an ailing friend.

"Alex, what are you doing here on Christmas Eve?" Kim asked coming into the study room.
"Completing a script for Drew. Her Christmas Present." Alex was giving the finishing touches to the story.
"What's it about?" Kim was at his back and she bent to see the name of script. Her cheek touched his and he felt her smooth skin against his. The Opium scent she was wearing did nothing to cool down his temperature. Kim didn't move and neither did Alex as they were lost in moment. It was kinda awkward really. Kim wasn't inexperienced and neither was Alex as he had the experiences from his previous life. But they both are like a couple of teenagers now.

"Alex, Kim where are you ?" Both of them came to their senses at the interruption of Drew.
"What are you both doing?" Drew asked with curiosity.
"Nothing, we are just discussing the script I wrote for you." Kim said with a slight blush on her face.
"Oh, really, really. Alex, is it real?" Drew's face lit up like a Petromax lamp.
Alex just nodded and Drew stormed to his side and hugged him. "Alex, you are the greatest Big Brother in the whole world."
The script he completed was the film 'Matilda(1996)' adapted from a children's book written by Roald Dahl. But the problem was that the book published in 1988. Alex couldn't wait that long for Drew's sake. So, Alex in good conscience invited Roald Dahl to write the script for the film but Roald rejected. The reason was that Alex wanted re-organization power of the script, which means that Alex can make changes to the script if he didn'r like it.
Alex just went on to write the script himself. In his usual way, he removed unnecessary scenes and wrote some new scenes to attract the audiences.
The film is about a young genius named Matilda, who uses telekinesis to deal with her parents, who do not value education, and Agatha Trunchbull, the oppressive principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School.
Alex somewhat mellowed the underlying bitterness in the film. This is a "Disney" type of film and Alex was going to give the script to Ron to handle it.

Golden Globe nominations came a week ago and Alex got double nominations, Best Screenplay and Best Actor-Drama for "Empire of the Sun". His Best Actor nomination made him the youngest actor to be nominated in that category.
"Empire of the Sun" got 5 nominations, the other three being Best Picture-Drama, Best Director and Best Original Score.
