Chapter 033: Failure

Chapter 033: Failure

Oliver ran towards Jin-Woo at full speed. When Jin-Woo was within arm’s reach, Oliver began throwing punches. The attacks were rendered ineffective. Jin-Woo was being protected by Yuri’s barrier. Oliver then concentrated Magical Energy on his fists and covered them with fire before continuing his attacks. As soon as Oliver managed to break a barrier, Yuri would make a new one before Oliver could get to Jin-Woo. Oliver looked in desperation as the white ball grew bigger and bigger.

“There won’t be turning back once you do that, Jin-Woo!!” Oliver yelled in desperation. “There has to be another way!”

“This is the only way! Xiao Li has too much political power and he can’t be taken out through any other means!” Yuri said, looking at the white ball. “Such a beautiful attack! Oliver, stop struggling, you can’t do anything against my barriers. Jin-Woo and I have long surpassed your power.”

“Not everyone in that base is your enemy! You would be no different than Xiao Li if you kill them! Stop this, Jin-Woo!” Oliver pleaded as he continued to punch the barrier.

“Sorry, Oliver! But I must take this chance to kill Xiao Li!” Jin-Woo said while looking at Oliver. “This is it!”

Jin-Woo slowly brought his arm down, guiding the white ball towards Achim. In a few moments the white ball collided with a structure on the base. The white ball caused an explosion that sent a massive shockwave all throughout the area. The Moon Units were sent flying back. Aria and Nicole struggled to regain control, but Sukui pilots were not as lucky as their Moon Units plunged into the base of the mountain, killing them inside. Yuri quickly made a barrier covering Oliver, Jin-Woo, and herself. After the dust had settled, Oliver could only see a crater where Achim once stood. He looked at Jin-Woo with horror. There was not a trace of the soldiers stationed at Achim and all Sukui had been annihilated.

“Jin-Woo … you …” Oliver was left speechless.

“He is finally dead!” Yuri said with a relieved expression. “We have finally avenged our parents!”

Jin-Woo stood in silence looking at the destruction his attack had caused. He extended his hand towards the destruction and absorbed the Magical Energy.

“You two have crossed a line that you should have never crossed!” Oliver said with a defeated expression. “I have failed!”

“Xiao Li and everyone else in the base are gone.” Jin-Woo extended his right arm towards the crater and stood there for a moment. He had an expression of horror as he looked at the destruction he caused. “And I have absorbed the Magical Energy left behind.”

Yuri began to observe the extent of the destruction. Her expression darkened; she began to tremble. Her guilt grew by the second as she shifted her eyes to her brother.

“Jin-Woo, Yuri, you have finally avenged your parents! I believe this is where you stop! Please turn yourselves in!” Oliver pleaded. “You must pay for your actions; many innocent people have died! Don’t run from the consequences like Xiao Li!”

“Oliver, we ...” Jin-Woo weakly said, looking at Yuri.

“Jin-Woo we were wrong! We already killed Xiao Li. Let’s stop here! I don’t want to make innocent people suffer! Look at the destruction we caused! Innocent people got caught up in our revenge and lost their lives. I realized what we were truly doing too late!” Yuri said somberly. “We’re now the same if not worse than Xiao Li! Let’s face our punishment, big brother!”

“I only got satisfaction for a moment before what I truly did settled in my mind! I killed them! People that had nothing to do with our parents’ death! I became a monster. I deserve to be punished!” Jin-Woo said as he approached Oliver. “Oliver, please detain us. We don’t deserve freedom! We must pay for our crimes!”

Suddenly they could hear a sniper rifle going off. Oliver and Jin-Woo heard Yuri scream then heard her fall. They rushed to her and could see she was hit on the chest. She was bleeding and Oliver tried to save her using his Healing Magic. Yuri was breathing heavily, and tears were running down her cheeks.

“Jin-Woo, please save me!” Yuri pleaded. “I want to be with you forever, I don’t want to leave your side!”

“Yuri! Stay with me, Yuri!!” Jin-Woo yelled as he grabbed Yuri’s left hand.

“Jin-Woo, thank you for being the best brother! You made me so happy, Jin-Woo, my beloved brother!” Yuri slowly reached Jin-Woo’s face with her other hand and touched it. She smiled and her eyes slowly closed. The next moment her hand fell limp.

“YURI!! YURI! PLEASE SAY SOMETHING!” Jin-Woo was sobbing. “YURI!!! YURI!!! YURI!! I CAN’T LOSE YOU! MY PRECIOUS LITTLE SISTER! I WAS THE ONE THAT KILLED THEM, NOT YOU! WHY!? WHY!? YURI!!!”

“Jin-Woo! Yuri!” Oliver was crying. “I couldn’t do anything! Why couldn’t I stop this!?”

“This world has taken everything I cared about away from me! There is nothing left for me in the world!” Jin-Woo carried Yuri’s body in his arms. He held her body as tightly as he could. His tears had no end.

A group of soldiers arrived, pointing their guns at Jin-Woo. Jin-Woo glared at them, then he saw one of them was holding a sniper rifle. Without Yuri, Jin-Woo’s rage was unleashed. His tears disappeared. Jin-Woo’s humanity had perished alongside Yuri.

“Then I don’t have a need for this world ANYMORE!!” Jin-Woo yelled, full of rage. Shadows emerged from under his feet, consuming all of the soldiers. “I won’t forgive this world!! I won’t allow it to exist!”

“Jin-Woo, I am sorry I couldn’t stop this!” Oliver said with an expression full of sorrow. “But please, stop what you’re about to do!”

“Oliver, next time we see each other, we will be enemies! I’ll destroy Lunaria at any cost!” Jin-Woo exclaimed while looking at Oliver. “Goodbye!!”

Jin-Woo walked away as he carried Yuri’s body. The shadows below his feet fully covered him and once the shadows disappeared Jin-Woo was nowhere to be seen. Oliver clenched his fists.

“I have failed!” Oliver fell to his knees. “I doubt anyone in the world has the power to stop him now.”

“Oliver, what happened?” Colonel Miyamoto approached Oliver.

“Everything went wrong! I couldn’t do anything! Achim was wiped! Roger lost his leg! And Yuri died!!” Oliver said as he got up. “Who gave the order to shoot Yuri!?”

“I could not tell you. I just came back from dropping Roger in the medical center.” Colonel Miyamoto answered as looked at Oliver’s face full of sorrow. “This is a tragedy, but they had to be stopped.”

“A threat? They had just surrendered. We could have just taken them in!!” Oliver said in frustration, “Now, Jin-Woo will do anything in his power to destroy the world. See that crater over there. His attack caused all that destruction, and he still grows stronger. We stand no chance against him! Lunaria stands no chance against him!”

“Oliver pull yourself together! There must be something we can do!” Colonel Miyamoto commanded as he looked at the destruction. “If Jin-Woo intends to attack Lunaria, it will be tricky. But I believe we can win against him. Our military is strong. If the Demon King somehow shows himself again, we could kill him. Jin-Woo is nothing compared to the Demon King!”

“You think we can defeat him? You’re delusional!” Oliver yelled. “Didn’t you see the destruction!?! You understand NOTHING!!”

“You brat, I forgave you when you broke my daughter’s heart! I won’t take your disrespect any longer!” Colonel Miyamoto punched Oliver. Oliver staggered back and Colonel Miyamoto looked at him. “Calm down. We can still do something. We are still alive!”

“Only one thing comes to my mind. We must escape from Lunaria!” Oliver said, looking at Colonel Miyamoto.

“Escape and how?” Colonel Miyamoto asked. “He could reach the moons if we escaped to one of them. And we have not made any bases on any of the other planets.”

“You’re forgetting Earth! We use the Inter-World Spaceship. At the moment we need 1 year to complete it.” Oliver explained as he got up. “We can’t stop Jin-Woo, we can only escape him.”

“The next plan of action is up to the people above me. I’ll give my report, but the decision is out of my hands.” Colonel Miyamoto explained. “You and Ayano do as much as you can. When the higher ups see the danger, they will hopefully go with your plan. But I wish there was another way. One which doesn’t involve leaving Lunaria.”

“I’ll make up for my failure!” Oliver said regretfully, as he looked at the destroyed environment. The remaining flora in the proximity began to slowly decay.
