Chapter 021: Festival III

“They’re so pretty.” Nicole said as she pointed at the masks in the stand. The masks were modeled after various animals ranging from cats to dinosaurs. She was hugging her plush flamingo with her free arm. “The fox one is cute.”

“The masks are of really high quality. I bet it took quite a lot of effort to make them.” Oliver said.

“So, you guys were here.” Oliver could hear Yuri’s voice. He turned around and saw Yuri and Jin-Woo walking towards him. “You were right, Jin-Woo. They are here.”

“I guess our little date came to an end, Oliver.” Nicole said. “Where are Aria and Roger?”

“We got separated from them. We have been looking around the stands.” Yuri answered. “Let’s buy matching masks. Let’s get three, one for Aria, one for you, and one for me.”

“How about the fox ones? I find them pretty.” Nicole said, while looking at the masks.

“I’ll get them for us. They will be my gift.” Yuri said.

“You don’t have to. I can pay for them.” Nicole said.

“I’ll pay for them. I just want to give my best friends a gift.” Yuri said. “You and Aria are my precious friends, so let me do this.”

“Thanks, Yuri.” Nicole smiled.

“This is only for us girls, so don’t get jealous, you two.” Yuri looked at Oliver and Jin-Woo. She then grabbed three masks. “And don’t worry Oliver, you’re also my friend.” Yuri said before paying for the masks.

“She really is a kind girl.” Jin-Woo said.

“You’re right about that. I am glad to be her friend.” Oliver said.

“And I am glad to be her older brother.” Jin-Woo said. “She is willing to do anything for the people she loves.”

“Nicole, come on! Let’s find Aria!” Yuri said as she pulled Nicole away from Oliver and Jin-Woo. “We have to get a picture of the three of us wearing the masks.”

“Slow down.” Nicole said as she kept up with Yuri’s pace. “You’re going too fast.”

“I guess they are leaving us behind.” Jin-Wo said.

“Should we go after them?” Oliver asked as Nicole and Yuri continued walking.

“No, let them find Aria.” Jin-Woo said as Nicole and Yuri disappeared into the crowd. “How about we compete in archery? I believe I saw a stand a bit ago.”

“Well, that sounds fun. I want to see how I do against you.” Oliver said.

“Great, then follow me.” Jin-Woo said as he started walking.

“Okay.” Oliver began following Jin-Woo. As Oliver walked through the crowd, he could hear the laughter of the people around him. He could see smiles in everyone’s faces. He could see families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying the festival.

“We’re here.” Jin-Woo said. He had stopped in front of a stand. At the back of the stand there were two targets and in the front there were bows and arrows. Jin-Woo looked at the woman in the stand. “How much is it?”

“It’s fifteen hundred for 5 arrows.” The woman answered.

“Let’s make a bet, Oliver.” Jin-Woo said. “How about one thousand?”

“Alright.” Oliver said. “Although I think you might win. But I won’t back down.”

“Then here we go.” Jin-Woo said. Oliver and Jin-Woo paid and each got a bow and five arrows. “I’ll let you go first.”

“Here I go.” Oliver said as he grabbed a bow and one of the arrows. Oliver stared at the target for a few moments, then he pulled the string; he aimed; his eyes were fixated on the bull’s eye; he released his shot. The arrow quickly found its way to the target. “That’s eight.”

“My turn.” Jin-Woo took a bow and one arrow. He pulled the string and aimed at the target. He released the string. As soon as the arrow hit the target, Jin-Woo turned to Oliver. “Nine. Oliver, have you decided who you’re going to date?”

“I should make up my mind soon. Or else I’ll end up hurting both.” Oliver said as he pulled the string. He released the string and the arrow hit the 9 point area. “Either way one of them will be hurt when I choose one of them.”

“This can end two ways with 1 hurt person or 3 hurt people.” Jin-Woo said as he pulled the string. He carefully aimed at the target; he released the string. The arrow hit the bull's eye. “Then why haven’t you made a choice yet?”

“It’s a pathetic reason.” Oliver said. He pulled the string. He released the string. The arrow landed at the 7 point area. “I am enjoying the attention. I never had this kind of attention, so I just want to enjoy it. But in doing so, I’ll hurt them. It feels so great having two women chasing after me. I don’t want this to end, yet I’ll have to put an end to this soon.”

“But what is so wrong in doing what your heart desires?” Jin-Woo asked. He pulled the string and quickly released. The arrow landed in the 9 point area. “We humans tend to follow our desires so much we become blinded to everything else and we end up doing something we regret; something we can never take back.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Oliver said. He pulled the string; he aimed; he released the string. The arrow hit the bull's eye. “I better make up my mind soon. But I am still unsure. What does my heart desire? I don’t understand myself at this moment.”

“You shouldn’t leave them waiting for too long or you’ll lose both of them.” Jin-Woo said as he observed the target. He pulled the string; he aimed; he released the string. The arrow hit the target. “Another bull’s eye.”

“You’re right. But my heart is confused.” Oliver said. He shot his last arrow and hit the target. “Nine points. I think I lost.”

“You and Nicole sneaked from us earlier to have a little date. You should also have a little date with Aria, maybe that will help you figure out your feelings.” Jin-Woo said. He quickly pulled the string and released it. The arrow hit the target in the 9 point area. “I won. You can pay me later.”

“Are you sure?” Oliver asked. “I can pay you now.”

“I am sure. I just have one question.” Jin-Woo said. “Can you pinpoint individuals by their Magic Power?”

“Not really. I can detect Magic Power, but I can’t tell whose it is. And in crowded places all Magic Powers get jumbled together, so I can’t really separate it from one person to another, unless I am standing right in front of the person.” Oliver answered. “As far as I know there are no unique Magic Power readings, so I couldn’t know who the person is just by their Magic Power. I hope my explanation helped you.”

“Yeah, that helped.” Jin-Woo said. “You better go with Aria.”

“I should, but I don’t know where she is.” Oliver said.

“Let me think.” Jin-Woo closed his eyes for a bit. Then he pointed west. “She should be over there … I remember seeing her at a stand.”

“Then I’ll try to find her, thanks!” Oliver said before heading towards the area Jin-Woo was pointing.
