Chapter 023: Moon Unit Project

“You mean I got permission to modify Aria’s and Nicole’s Moon Units? That’s great.” Oliver exclaimed. “Why did the high-ranking officials give me permission so soon?”

“First, you’re my apprentice. Second, I had to share our research into Pure Magical Energy Crystals with them and now Professor Su will also conduct his own research on them. Finally, during the terrorist attack Aria and Nicole mentioned in their report that fuel could have been an issue if the Moon Unit fight had lasted longer.” Ayano answered. “But, if you want to work on that, then you must agree to let Professor Su make Magic Amplifiers using your patent. Of course, you will get paid for that.”

“That sounds like a good deal to me. I’ll do it.” Oliver responded. “But if I am going to be working on that, then what are you going to do?”

“The Magic Amplifiers we have improved should be more than enough for the Moon Units. And I’ll improve the technology even further and I’ll work on other portions of the Inter-World Spaceship.” Ayano answered. “Don’t worry about me and focus on your project. I have enough helpers around here. Don’t get too arrogant thinking you’re the only one that can help me. Go to Kenta’s office to sign the paperwork. I believe you’ll do a fine job!”

“Alright, Mrs. Hashimoto! I’ll be heading towards Colonel Miyamoto’s office!” Oliver said.

“Oliver, if you need any help don’t hesitate in asking me. I am here to guide you.” Ayano said. “And remember if you think it’s too much try to rely on others even if it’s just for emotional support. Don’t carry everything by yourself.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Oliver responded. “Then I am out.”

“Take care!” Ayano replied.

Oliver quickly made his way to Colonel Kenta Miyamoto’s office. His face was full of excitement as he opened the door and entered the room. When he entered the office Oliver could see Kenta’s serious expression, but he could also see a slight smile. Oliver quickly sat down in front of Kenta.

“Good job, Oliver! The top brass are happy with you and your contributions to the crystals. And also, that converter invention of yours.” Kenta said with an authoritative tone. “I am glad Ayano decided to become your mentor.”

“So, what exactly are the top brass offering me?” Oliver asked.

“Instead of me telling you let me give you the paperwork.” Kenta said as he handed Oliver a packet of about 5 pages. “I read it, and it seems pretty straightforward and fair. Read it and tell me if something in it bothers you!”

“Alright!” Oliver said before beginning to read. After a few minutes of reading and reading, Oliver was finally satisfied with his understanding of the contents. “The terms are better than I expected, so I will sign right away. May I have a pen?”

“Are you fine with Professor Su competing with you and Ayano?” Kenta asked as he handed Oliver a fountain pen.

“After what his apprentice did to me in Muna, I am willing to pick a fight with him.” Oliver signed the contract. “No matter what he or his apprentices do, Mrs. Hashimoto and I will come out on top.”

“That’s the perfect response for someone from the Sol City Military Base.” Kenta complimented Oliver. “Oliver, I have a favor to ask of you! Please work on Nicole’s Moon Unit first!”

“I guess Mrs. Hashimoto was expecting this and didn’t ask me to work on Aria’s Moon Unit first. I’ll work on Nicole’s Moon Unit first!” Oliver replied, handing back the contract. “Do you know if she is around?”

“She should be around. Platoon 12 came back a few minutes ago.” Kenta replied, taking the contract. “I’ll scan these documents and send you a copy of them to your email.”

“Alright, let me see if I can find her.” Oliver got up from the chair.

“One more thing, Oliver!” Kenta said with a serious expression. “Figure out your feelings quickly or you’ll make both of them suffer.”

“I already made up my mind.” Oliver replied. “My feelings are now clear. I wish I had been more certain from the beginning; I ended up playing with their hearts. And I accept what comes after.”

Colonel Miyamoto stayed silent, and Oliver exited the room. Oliver walked towards the hangar hoping Nicole was there. As he was walking, he saw Jin-Woo and Yuri walking.

“Jin-Woo, Yuri!” Oliver waved at them.

“Sup, Oliver! How’re you doing?” Jin-Woo greeted Oliver with a smile.

“Hey Oliver!” Yuri greeted Oliver with a smile.

“Have you guys seen Nicole?” Oliver asked.

“I think she went to the changing room.” Jin-Woo answered.

“Jin-Woo, you never pay attention! She said she would be in the hangar.” Yuri answered looking at Jin-Woo with a disapproving expression.

“Thank you! I’ll see you guys around!” Oliver said before starting to walk towards the hangar. Jin-Woo and Yuri waved good-bye to him.

After a few minutes of walking Oliver reached the hangar and could see Nicole near her Moon Unit. As soon as she spotted Oliver, Nicole smiled and ran towards him. She gave him a tight hug.

“Oliver, you came to see me! I am so happy!” Nicole said with a big smile. “What brings you here?”

“I am going to convert your Moon Unit to one powered by Pure Magical Energy Crystal.” Oliver answered, hugging Nicole back. “I need the key fob.”

“That’s so cool. While you’re at it, are you able to make Elemental Guns for the Moon Units?” Nicole separated from Oliver and handed her Moon Unit’s key fob to Oliver. Her key fob had a keychain with a few charms of different cute monsters. “I won’t have to worry about refueling!”

“After I finish working on your Moon Unit, I’ll be working on Aria’s Moon Unit, so after I finish that I will make one for each one of you.” Oliver answered as he scratched his head.

“Oliver, let’s go on a date tonight!” Nicole said with a serious expression. “I can tell you made up your mind, so let me know tonight after our date. Let’s meet at Pier 7 at seven in the evening.”
